Domo has gotten raves from vegetarian friends. They do Japanese country fare: stews, soups, tempura. They originally did not serve sushi, though they do now. But there are plenty of vegetarian options, more than you would expect.

However, as they note in their menu:
Domo Restaurant uses over seventy different
ingredients individually or in combinations.
Meats, fish and vegetables are prepared in the
same kitchen, with the same pots and utensils
(washed between preparations of course). It is
not possible to follow extremely strict vegetarian
guidelines for food preparation.

So it depends how strict you want to be.

I prefer them for lunch these days (more affordable, and I don't expect as much from the service, which has fallen off a bit since their early days). Your mileage may vary!

I've got goat's milk galore and I'd like to make some cheese. I can get rennet at Vitamin Cottage but I'd also like to find a press and some molds, and possibly some different cultures.

Are there any cheesemaking supply places in the area? I'd rather buy locally than shop online. (Aside from wanting to spend my cash in town, visiting the shop and talking to people is half the fun.)

Nonono, don't eat at the airport! I'd say your best bet is to stop in Idaho Springs, which is about a half-hour west of Denver off I-70. Very easy off and back onto the highway. The most obvious choice would be Beau Jo's pizza, but there are other places in the same stretch. Get off at the second Idaho Springs exit (exit 240 for CO-103/Mt Evans), turn right at the bottom of the ramp on 13th Street, then right again on Miner Street, which is lined with restaurants and shops. Beau Jo's is two blocks down on the right.

Other Chowhounds will surely have recs, too.

At Bistro One (new place on South Broadway) the other night our server was hyper-smiley and enthusiastic almost to the point of annoyance ("Well played, my friends!"), but I decided I just needed to smother my inner cynic and be smiley right back.

Seconding Beirut Grill and Ya Hala. And also seconding Claire's suggestion that you try making your own. It's so very easy. I've posted a recipe on my blog (linked in profile; then search for hummus). I make it regularly and it's so much better (and cheaper) than what you can buy.

I don't eat a lot of pizza, so I'm not an afficionado, but I do enjoy Pasquini's.

A friend of mine appreciates Beaujoe's gluten-free pizzas. I'm not sure what kind of crust that is (cornmeal maybe?), but it's nice to have the option.

Thanks! Yep, that's my house. I'm wowed by it, too, even after a year. Particularly because the kitchen is three, no, four times the size of my old one, and had room to build in a floor-to-ceiling bookcase for all my cookbooks. Surprisingly, I do not have any of Marcella Hazan's yet, but after reading her memoir, I will certainly be picking up her "Essentials," which is an expanded version of her first book.

The story of how that book got published is fascinating, too. It almost withered on the vine, until some chance introductions changed her life.

You won't be disappointed. I'm about a third of the way through and really enjoying it. She has a good story, and it's well-written.

Cafe Brazil and Cuba Cuba are my favorites. I've also always considered Le Central a good standby (dinners only, never brunch), as long as I can get a seat on the patio or in one of the back rooms.

On the patio at Highlands Garden Cafe is lovely and special. I'm also fond of Cuba Cuba (they have a patio too). The former takes reservations, the latter does not.

I second Lucille's. Great brunch place. Love the bloody marys and the beignets. Fabulous Creole food, and good service. (I've only been to the Denver location. On Logan just north of Alameda.)

Mulberries on Old South Pearl in Denver makes beautiful cakes, but I can't tell you how tasty they are. Their cookies are good, though!

I do mourn the passing of Piscos, which of course had excellend pisco sours.

I haven't seen any mention of Red Tango here, and I think it is most excellent. It's Latin American, mostly Chilean and Peruvian. They do an osso bucco as a special that is delicious (and big enough to make two more dinners for me). And though I'm not vegetarian, their combo plate (chile de zapallo stuffed with butter nut squash and goat cheese drizzled with nutmeg cream sauce 1 steak or avocado tostada, 1 cheese enchilada smothered with mole pobalono) is one of my favorite things.

The service is friendly and efficient, and they have the full line-up of (properly made) Latin American drinks, plus a nice wine list.

The location may seem a little funky (they took over several linked storefronts in a strip mall on 38th just west of Sheridan) but that also adds to its charm. It feels like a nice surprise!

Sorry I missed you guys! I was there with a friend at the same time. We probably walked past you on our way out, if you were sitting by the kitchen. Didn't know it until I saw Claire's post on her blog. Sounds like quite the feast! Dim sum is definitely better with a crowd.

Thanks for the tip on Keg Liquors. Never would've thought to check in there for deals. (I'm partial to Reserve List and Morgan's, though; they have not steered me wrong, though they may be pricier.)

I had a gift certificate to Sushi Den that was also good for Izakaya Den across the street. Izakaya has all kinds of non-sushi items ( menu here: http://www.izakayaden.net/menus/fusio... ), so your husband should be able to find something he likes there. I'd call and double-check whether you can use your gift cert. there, anyway.

Vinh Xuong is the bakery in the Far East Center (in the southwest corner), unless there's another one there I don't know about (quite possible). They have a pretty extensive selection of pastries (love the sesame balls), and they do banh mi. I am also fond of their tapioca puddings. I couldn't say what their meat buns are like, but they often have spring rolls that are good.
