Las Vegas - Mexican for a group

I just did a quick search and you are getting Yolo's confused with Yolie's.

Las Vegas - Mexican for a group

Yolos Mexican Grill in Planet Hollywood is a Brazilian steakhouse? I find that pretty hard to believe. I am very much aware that Brazilian and Mexican food are different.

We are thinking about $60/person with drinks.

Las Vegas - Mexican for a group

I am heading to Vegas with a group of 9 or 10 in January. We have other spots picked out for dinners, but need a place on Friday. Our focus is more on a fun spot than finding the best food in town. We are planning on drinking and heading out after. We are a group of guys in our 30s. I am looking at Mexican options and don't want to break the bank so thought that would be a good way to go.

I have done some digging and there are plenty of options, just wondering what ones would be the best options. We are staying at the Mirage and going out to a couple clubs after. El Segundo Sol? Yolos? Others? We were going to go to someplace in the Palazzo, and they just closed.

Ideas? Thoughts?

First night in Maui

Thanks. The other tough thing is that I feel that way a bit about Nick's. It is a Chicago restaurant and chef, and I have been in Chicago and enjoyed it, but didn't love it!

First night in Maui

Thanks! Great feedback!

Cheaper eats near Wailea

Indeed. I expect to pay vacation prices, and I live in Chicago and work downtown on Michigan Avenue, so I get how tourist mark-ups work!

Oh! That's great about Monkeypod happy hour. I wanted to try that. I have a full list of ideas now. Thanks!

First night in Maui

OK - Any feedback on why those two over the others?

First night in Maui

So, looking for the perfect memorable dinner for my first night in Maui. I am heading to Mamma's Fish House later in the visit, figure that is a must, but I want something in the Wailea area that first night. Should we do Nick's, Ko, Spago or some other place for that first meal to set the tone for the trip? We will be coming from Kauai earlier that day, will spend the afternoon on the beach probably, and then head out for one of two splurge dinner nights. We are staying at the Fairmont.

I would define all those as near! Great suggestions from the last few posters. Just what I was looking for...

North Side Restaurant/Bar for large party

Thanks. In Fine Spirits is right around the corner from me, but in now way cheap! They have a minimum for the room to be rented and you have to pay ahead, etc.

But I will check out Ricoche's....

That isn't super helpful. I know about a happy hour hear or there or specials for early birds. I am sure there are some tips or info you could send my way. Food trucks, etc?

But I am sure I will eat poolside often...

North Side Restaurant/Bar for large party

So, instead of "rehearsal dinner" I want to have out of town friends meet somewhere for a get together with family who are here. I am looking for a north side spot that will be little or no cost for the room that I can have people come in and buy or bring their own drinks. I am thinking around 40 people, but it could be as low as 30.

I live in Andersnville and I know you can do something like Ranalli's that we could buy the pizza and BYO. Or ask if a bar & grill type place with a back room would be willing to fill the place and have people order on their own and get their own drinks.

We are paying for the big day on our own, so we need it to be pretty thrifty...but still a fun night out. We want the "wow" factor to be the next day, so it doesn't need to be fancy...

Thoughts and ideas?

Cheaper eats near Wailea

Hey there. I am going to be staying 5 nights at the Fairmont in February. I have seen a lot of posts about the best of the best, and have some thought, but many options to chose from, near there for upscale dinners.

I am looking for cheap choices near there. Everything from somewhat casual sit-down spots to grab and go choices for lunches. Any and all cheap but delicious dining feedback is appreciated.

A challenge for Chicagoans

You read my mind. After great suggestions and ideas, I picked Sun Wah. Been once and as I was researching realized how fun that could be for the group.

A challenge for Chicagoans

I have a group that meets for a monthly lunch club. Every month we pick an off-the-beaten-path spot in Chicago. It is usually some type of ethnic food. There are about 8-10 of us every month who attend. And the person picking usually rotates. We have had some great experiences and found some awesome grub.

But, its my turn and I want to pick a winner. Previous hits have been La Unica (cuban in the back of a grocery store on devon), Taste of Peru, some puerto rican sandwich places, Isla Pilipina, etc.

Idea, thoughts?! I want to pick someplace super unique and great!

One night in for dinner

And that looks awesome, that is going on my shortlist! What about Bibou? Tria?

One night in for dinner

Probably a Tuesday or Wednesday.

One night in for dinner

Oh, and if you know of places in King of Prussia that dont' suck, let me know!

One night in for dinner

Hey all. I am going to be in King of Prussia and will only have one night to take the train in for dinner and then head back to the burbs. I am in from Chicago and with a coworker. We both want not-stuffy or uptight, but still amazing great food somehwere downtown that we could wander around after perhaps. Supper looks like a great option, but anything else that screams "Philadelphia" would be great. Hope this is enough to go on. I want some inventive creative food, but dont' want to spend 100 bucks a person.

I love BYO, inventive american food, up and coming chefs, places where the food is fancy but the crowd isn't, farm to table dining or local foods.

Thanks!

Alinea wine pairings

I was there just over a month ago and did the pairings. It was a little odd for me, because they don't do it with every course. Without much direction they pour wines and bring out a course or two. I had to ask how many courses it was covering, because I could have just finished it off. They basically told me not to worry about it and enjoy, and they refilled me a couple times when I think I wasn't supposed to be done with my small pour just yet. It was 2/3 of the menu.

The wine pairing was the part that was the only slight downside to me. I made it clear I was no wine expert and hoped that the descriptions of the wines would be "dumbed down" a bit for me, but most of what he said was over my head. If I went back, I really don't think I would do the pairings. They just didn't seem worth it to me for how little I knew.

I have to say that each one went great with my dishes, but while I could recount my food course by course today, I could tell you much of anything about the wine I had!

Best Thai in Andersonville?

There isn't any good thai that is actually in Andersonville. Stay away from Noodle Zone on Clark. Pretty bad food most the time. But, Thai Pastry, near Andersonville on Broadway is one of my favorites. Always super authentic solid Thai food, that avoid the American-ized overly-sweet stuff you tend to find at lots of delivery joints in Chicago. I also have ordered from Ben's on Bryn Mawr and it is pretty reliable and a tad cheaper than Thai Pastry.

Schwa closed last night. Anyone know what happened?

I had the same thing last night! It was my birthday and they called me at 6pm to cancel my 8:30pm reservation. Talk about short notice. I had just bought a couple great bottles of wine and had made these plans back in November. Talk about a bummer on my birthday. I have been once before and really loved the whole thing and was super excited about my return. Seth told me to call back as well to reschedule, but after that I am just pretty frustrated. Something strange is going on there!

Thoughts on Ria

Nsxtasy has commented on how terrible the meal there was. I had the opposite experience and truly loved the whole experience. For me, the service is what set it aside, the perfect balance of high-end chic restaurant without too much pretentiousness.

I loved Ria and think it deserves that 2nd Michilen star it got!

I am always really really happy at Boka, too.

Opinions of Ria please

Wow, pretty harsh. My services was through the roof awesome at Ria. I feel like we are talking about two different restaurants. I had not one single bad thing happen like you are talking about the whole time.

Ceres' Table Reviews?

I have to disagree. I ate there a month back and won't return. Our server was rude and clearly didn't want to be there. I ordered a cocktail that tasted bad and told the server who scowled at us and proceeded to go to the bartender and point at us while they talked about us. The entrees were just ok. Anteprima up the street has similar fare with a far better result. The only highlight was the rice ball appetizer.

Michelin Stars Are Out

Hooray for Ria. I just went there and really loved it and am surprised by the lack of attention. I hope this gives it a boost in visitors. One of my best meals, and that tasting menu is a steal!

Savannah in mid- November

Hey there. Love this post. I am planning a January trip and this is pretty close to what I was actually thinking of doing. I really wanted Elizabeth's for dinner one night, and wasn't super excited by Belford's. But, otherwise, this is pretty close to my plans!

Sunday North Side deals?

I have actually done the munch a bunch at LuLu's too, and think that while not food that will blow you away, it was pretty solid and the deal really is a great one. A good option! Making me think I should head up to Evanston and catch a movie and just eat an earlier dinner!

I hadn't heard of Merle's Sunday deal and that is just the kind of deal I was on the prowl for! Thanks for that tip! If not this Sunday it is on my list!
