My Aldi experience!

I've been going to the grocery store for the last 60 years. I don't need much service at this point, I have it down pat.

I shop Aldi for some items, the supermarket for some, Trader Joes, local farmer's markets for others. I am allowed to go to more than one place.

Asheville Restaurants for 9 days in June. Thoughts on picks?

There are tailgate markets almost every day of the week somewhere. You can check the Local Foods website for a schedule.

My Aldi experience!

If you are only a name brand shopper, then Aldi isn't for you. Trader Joe's won't be either. Just a heads up about that.

More for me!

Nay for me on the Multigrain O's. I do like the Aldi brand of Multigrain O's.

Okie Dokey in Candler is drive up only unless you want to eat at a picnic table. I think they have some.

And I agree with Miss Piggy, it's my favorite, too.

Eastern NC cheese biscuits

Thanks for the link. Good information on a number of things.

I agree about the Cheddar Bo. Look blasphemous to me, too.

Eastern NC cheese biscuits

The links to the News and Observer are dead now so I must ask... are these biscuits that the cheese has been baked into or is the cheese added afterward? I'm in Western North Carolina so I've not had the opportunity to have one.

Bojangles has been advertising some sort of cheddar biscuit lately. I'm assuming this isn't the same sort of thing. Correct?

Best Sandwhich in Asheville

Nona Mia Deli is now serving some of the sandwiches that were on the menu at 28806 Deli before it closed. Great sandwiches.

Baking in gas convection oven

Thanks for the info. Mine isn't installed yet so I can't attest to how it bakes. It's in my new house which is 400 miles away right now. I'll be there later this week and will check to see if it has the element around the fan unit, which from what I read is what constitutes this feature. At least it seems to be on current models.

Baking in gas convection oven

From looking at their site, I see that only the electric or dual fuel models have the True European Convection. Or is yours a gas oven?

What series is your range? I recently bought a Bosch 800 series.

What to do with Trader Joes Pound Plus chocolate bar?

It's really easy to cut through the large bar with a larger serrated knife. A serrated bread knife is perfect for that.

Copper/aluminum reaction..can it be reversed?

Someone, I shall not mention who, stored something aluminum inside of my copper mixing bowl. Now there is a spot of corrosion on the bottom of the bowl that I'd like to get rid of. Can this be done? And, if so, with what?

Kraft Old English Cheese

Interesting. That wasn't my experience at all. Most people that I know of who had it thought it was great. Just wondering how it compared to the Old English.

Hmmm. Wonder if that corned beef would be good as an ingredient in other dishes rather than a sandwich? I'm thinking of combined with colcannon as a stuffing for twice baked potatoes. Or some kind of Rueben inspired cheese ball. Possibilities!

Thomas's English Muffins

Recently I noticed Nature's Own English muffins in our Harris Teeter and got some. They're pretty good. Easy to split and with good nook and cranny texture, I really liked them. The flavor is good, too.

I purchased two Honeybaked Hams over Christmas for my brother to give as holiday gifts for clients. Since it was at the last minute I could only get the boneless ones that ranged 4.5 - 5 pounds. Both together cost about $120. Outrageous.

Ina Garten - Make It Ahead: A Barefoot Contessa Cookbook

I'm curious as to why it really matters. Not a dig, really.

Warming food in the oven on ceramic plates: How hot is safe, what temperatures are ideal, and should food be covered w/ foil or not?

Ceramic ware is generally fired to about 2400 degrees F in the making process. 300 degrees isn't going to phase it. However, what is a problem is thermal shock - going from hot to cold. Don't take a plate of food directly out of the fridge and put it on a hot rack in a hot oven. That goes for glass/pyrex, too. And when taking it out of the oven avoid putting it on a cold surface.

Very often I'll put a ceramic baker on a sheet pan and put the whole thing in the oven. As the sheet pan warms so does the baker avoiding the whole thermal shock thing. I'd do this with your plate.
