Interesting. I wonder why that would happen?

Maybe if the gasoline had been fresher?

*just kidding*

Staring at a pile of shredded cabbage, what salad should I make?

I can let you know after this weekend....

Staring at a pile of shredded cabbage, what salad should I make?

I got this recipe in an email yesterday and can't wait to try it.

Asian Coleslaw

1/3 cup orange marmalade
1/4 cup rice vinegar or white wine vinegar
1 tablespoon sugar
1 tablespoon sesame oil
1 1/2 teaspoons grated gingerroot
1 teaspoon salt
1 bag (16 oz) coleslaw mix (shredded cabbage and carrots)
4 medium green onions, chopped (1/4 cup)

In large bowl, mix all ingredients except coleslaw mix and onions until well blended. Stir in coleslaw mix and onions.
Cover; refrigerate at least 30 minutes to blend flavors but no longer than 24 hours.

Has Firestorm reopened?

Blue Ridge Parkway

Knife and Fork in Spruce Pine would be well worth a visit.

Strawberries have no flavor anymore. Agree or disagree?

If they don't smell like strawberries from several feet away, I don't buy them. Doesn't matter where, market or grocery.

Why aren't my waffles crispy? Help!

My mother is 93 and still an excellent cook. She's probably forgotten more about cooking than I'll ever know. It pays to listen to her, for sure.

Why aren't my waffles crispy? Help!

My mom always taught me that waffles were done when the steam quit coming out from the sides of the waffle iron. Her waffles were always perfect. I haven't read every last reply to the OP so someone else may have mentioned it. That and the suggestions for more butter, more heat, etc. may help as well. But if it's still steaming you're going to have less than crispy waffles.

Pesto Sauce from Costco

I like to stir some into chicken salad - especially deli-bought Rostisserie Chicken salad. I usually add walnuts or pecans, too.

What to do with 4 pounds of Rosemary? [moved from Southeast board]

I was going to say Rosemary Jelly, but it violates two of your requirements. Putting thinking cap back on...

Any memories of "poor people food" from your childhood that you still crave?

Thank you!

Egg Slicer?

The recipe (with photo) is here. My chunks weren't quite as chunky.

Egg Slicer?

Cliocooks, this last recipe I made was for a deviled egg dip and I put half the whites (the small parts) and all of the yolks in the food processor along with the typical deviled egg ingredients. Then I sliced/chopped the larger pieces of yolk to mix in after the other was mixed. It actually made the best egg salad I think I've ever made.

For years there was a small deli counter in a convenience store near my job. They had some outstanding food - most particularly their egg salad sandwiches. Fried chicken, too, but that's another story. Anyway, over the years, I have tried to replicate their egg salad by grating the eggs. I got close. It wasn't until I did the above method that I nailed it. I'm so excited to have found their secret.

Link to that beignet recipe, please. Pretty please?

Molasses...

I've had it go moldy. Of course, my favorite molasses is that the Amish make and that's not exactly a sanitary business.

Molasses...

With lots of butter!

Molasses...

Like. And cornbread and molasses. The no-sugar kind of cornbread I grew up on.

Thanks!

It's Girl Scout cookie season!!

I don't think I want to admit how I found out about this, but Dollar General store has their own store brand (Clover Valley) of cookies and they seem to be clones of Girl Scout cookies. I bought a box of Mint Thins (how subtle is that!) this morning and I'd swear they are the same. Or incredibly close. And they weren't $5 a box....

Those poor Girl Scouts!

Egg Slicer?

Thanks. I haven't gotten one yet so this is now in my Amazon cart.

Egg Slicer?

Thanks to both of you. I'll check BB&B soon. Right after I riffle through the junk mail to see if I have any of their coupons on hand!

Egg Slicer?

Unfortunately, that's not all I'm doing. I usually do grate mine for egg salad as I like the texture.

Wonderful new French bakery near South Asheville, Old World bakery, fletcher,NC

That's great, but if I were buying a birthday cake for a 5 year old I wouldn't buy it there. Now I do go there for pastries, breads, etc. To each their own, however.

Egg Slicer?

I've just now broken the wires on yet another egg slicer. Yeah, I know it's a unitasker but when I have a bunch of eggs to cut up there's nothing that does the job better. Does anyone have a brand to share with me that will hold up over time?

And yeah, I did search the previous threads and didn't find a recommendation.
