There aren't that many places in needham ctr that serve alcohol.. Mantra, Not Your Average Jo...a Japaneese place, Petite Robert (not quite needham ctr) Sweet Basil was BYOB (not sure if it still is or if they got a license) If Tu Y Yo is still open, they have a small but nice bar...
The Stonehearth (upscale pizza) also has beer and wine..
if i had to choose, I'd got to Sweet basil (BYOB) or Tu Y Yo .... Needham is better for food, and less so on the drinks (Many needhamites drink at home, since someone 300+ years ago made this a dry town!)

thanks for the warning about kimchi... never would imagine that they would put oysters with cabbage! I did see the soup section but I looked at a few brands of soup, and much of it had seafood (shrimp mostly) in it

We used this recipe for onion rings and fish -- turned out really good. (The onion rings turned out amazing... it was my own variation since i don't eat fish) The first time we made it, we used about 1 1/2 lbs of fish... and there was too much batter.
the second time we halved the recipe and did onion rings and it was stil plenty.

So i was there for the first time tonight... interesting, and similar to what Super 88 in Alston was back in the day. (about a decade ago!) Decent produce, slightly cheaper than suburban markets that i usually visit, with a lot more variety. Since I'm an adventurous vegetarian, (no fish or shellfish) i'm curious if there are prepared foods that I can try? So much of what i saw was meat, pork or fish oriented..... We didn't try the food court, but with the kids it was too overwhleming and I didn't know where to start. Husband did go the the mens room, which he said was FILTHY.... which isn't a particularly good sign... but many supermarket restrooms leave something to be desired.

What other curry pastes are similar to the small cans that I have recently discovered? I think it is Thai and I tried the massaman flavor. I think the brand was Massis or something similar . Just added light coconut milk to it and made a great sauce that was similar to what I have eaten in Thai restaurants

Others are correct. There are no high end kosher places around here.... having Andrew's in private venue is your safest bet. There are a few other Caterers too... Andrews isn't the only game in town, but probably the easiest. and cater most of the high end events.
Otherwise the alternative is the kosher Chinese place in newton Ta'Am China... which isn't very good, by non-kosher standards, but is a common destination for strict kosher vip's in the area.
If they are strictly observant, you'll be wasting your time at places like Legals and you may even offend them.

The space has been empty for a few years. Parking is pretty lousy... so it will be interesting if patron's will take over the Filene's lot, or if diners will park in the office complex next door.
