Boston Fish Pier - Retail?

Sea to you no longer at the fish pier. They now have their retail shop in brookline and open all week. But, as rlh says, it's been downhill the past, I'd say 5 years.

rios steak house quincy

Stopped by to get a takeout menu. The buffet looked great and smelled really good. There was a decent number of people. Plan on going this weekend. Anybody been and can comment?

Roast Brisket by the pound in Malden area

Thanks for the replies. I'm looking for the type you find in good new york/jewish style deli's like you find in Brookline. I was hoping for Doms but, no. But, I'm good, I actually found a place in Quincy (where I live) that has it. Alba Deli Express just receintly opened and claimed to be a "New York" style delii. To my surprise, they have it ~ roasted on the premisis. Bought some ~ wasn't bad. Not like what I used to get in New Jersey but, not bad.

Roast Brisket by the pound in Malden area

I work near Malden center. Anybody know of a deli or some place where I can get roast brisket by the pound in the area? Not looking anything corned or cured. Just roast brisket. Thanks in advance.

New seafood items at Sullivans Castle Island

They now have a lobster roll which, I heard good things about. Can anybody comment on their fried scallops and now full bellied clams?

All Season's Table in Malden MA - excellent!

Interesting, I'll have to give the place another try. I went there about a year ago for lunch and while decor was nice and the food presentation was well done, I did not find the food very tasty and the sashimi was very skimpy for the price I paid. There were six of us and all of our dishes pretty much tasted the same (sauce wise) ~ which was dissapointing cause I got a lamb dish and was pretty excited about that. So, I'll give another shot :-)

lobster sashimi?

Agree. I too love all things raw. Tried it at Ginza a few times years ago and I tried to appreciate it but, I just didn't find it very appealling. Steam it and dip lightly in drawn butter.

Flat Iron Steaks

Roche Bros in Quincy has them. They have a full service butcher and they will cut one for you.

Valley and coming soon Habasa (?) Malden Ctr

Don't bother with the burrito. It's all rice and very little of everything else. I used to like the place very much before the original owner went back to Brazil oh 3 years ago. Same theme but, now overpriced and they skimp on food and flavor.

Sea To You lately?

Definitly not Kam Mans Forte. Whole Foods in Hingham sometimes has sashimi but, not very reliable. When It comes down to it I'll make the trip to New Deal or just suck it up and order take out. New Deal is not that much farther driving but, Sea to You was easier to get to from where I live in Quincy. An easy ride through Dorchester and South Boston.

Sea To You lately?

I would suggest New Deal Fish Market on Cambridge street near the courthouse. They have great "sushi grade" fish. Call ahead of time and ask what they have for sushi grade. They are very helpful and knowledgeable. Unfortunatly, I don't go often as it is out of the way for me.

Sea To You lately?

That explains it the down fall. I didn't realize the old Korean guy is no longer running the place. He was great. Always helpful. I missed when you'd go and it was like walking into the backroom of a butcher shop. I remember those blue fins sprawed on the big cutting table. Those were the days...

Sea To You lately?

Good to know. I used to go 2 - 3 times a month in the early 2000's. It was a jewel ~ great fresh fish at a very good price. Then somewhere in 2005, they did some renovations, prices shot up, and the quality of the fish went to hell in a handbasket. It's been over two years since I went and was concidering maybe this or next weekend, I would give another shot but, I guess not. (sigh).

Apple Picking?

And crowds there are! Was at Honey Pot last Saturday and boy was it crowded! The traffice around the place was insane. 1+ hour line just to for carmel apples and cider donuts. Maybe it had something to do w/ the rainy past weekend that postphoned apple picking plans but, that was rediculus.

Gypsy Girl Cafe--Quincy, anybody have information?

Hate to dissapoint but, it's a sub/pizza shop. Peaked in the window yesterday and they had the menu board up. They did have some specialty pizzas on the board but, seems that everyone is doing this these days. Bummer ~ I was looking foward to just what you described above.

New Mexican Grill in Quincy

That is Chipotle Mexican Grill. It's a chain like Qdoba. They officially opened on June 5th. On June 4th, it was free burrito's all day 'till 8PM. The line was out the door and down Newport Av. so, I didn' bother.

Afghan in Quincy ~ Zain's

Walking home the Quincy Center T station I pass by what is a new restaurant to me so, I went in to get a take-out menu and to my surprize, it's an Afghan restaurant. I used to love The Helmond in Cambridge but, haven't been in years as I no longer work in Cambridge. Apparenty, they have been around since the end of February. Has anybody been there yet, if so, lets hear about it.

So-So Chinatown Experiences. Am I ordering wrong?

Awe, come on. Nothing wrong with "americanized" chinese food. It just an entirly different cuizine then real stuff. I love clams and black beans, dim sum, and most items at Taiwan Cafe but, there are times I just gotta have my fix of mu shi, general tso's chicken and (don't hit me) crab rangoons.

outback steakhouse in quincy or bugaboo in braintree?

Please don't slam me on this but, I need to determine the better of the two as I'm entertaining some "meat and potato" people who love those types of places. Thanks in advance.

Super 88 Malden

They are still in Malden, they just moved to Commercial St near Piantedosi Baking Co.

New Deal much better than Sea To You

Couldn't agree more! I used to love Sea to You before they changed the way they operate back in 2004 or so. Now the place basically, well, stinks. New Deal on the other hand is great. For starters you can sashimi fish mon-sat and the fish is fantastic.
They carry blue fin maguro when in season (late summer to early fall). The staff/owners are very knowledgeable about their product and love to talk about it. Call in ahead of time and ask what's available for sashimi. They will even set aside an order over the phone for you to pick up. That is very handy when they have yellowtail cause that sells out very fast. Regards.

Taqueria La Mexicana is expanding

Just receinty had the pleasure of eating there thanks to a couple of Somerville cops. The food was great. Just like the Mexican I get while in TX. Bob and the Somerville PD are like family. So, we really got special treatment.

is there a sushi buffet place in boston?

I've never been to one worth while around here. Even at around $25+ a head, you basically get what you pay for and for the most part it's mediocre to yucky. There was one sushi/sashimi buffet I went to in Houston TX that was fabulous. Very fresh fish and savory, well presented and served everything including uni, ikura, various toro's, kampachi you name it. $65 a head and WORTH it. I wish we had something like that around here cause, my wife and I can easily break $100 on a sushi outing.

The Fat Cat, a new restaurant in Quincy

It's there. If you are walking on Chestnut St. toward Quincy Center it will be on your right a couple of venues after Sullivans

Quincy area recs?

Pho yuen dong is still there (thank goodness). I think your thinking of South Garden. This Chinese seafood place opened next door to pho yuen dong sometime back in May. Have yet to try it but, on evenings it's packed with Asians. That's a good sign.

Filipino food

Agree, Check out JnJ Turo Turo. Went in on Sunday after the kids soccer. The place is small but, all tables were occuppied w/ Filipino families enjoying lots of great smelling food. I'll probably order take out some time this week. See link below.

Shushi quality fish

Stay away from Sea to You. Up untill about 1.5 years ago, I used to go at least once a month for great fish at a reasonable price. Right now, I could care less if they stopped the retail operation. I haven't tried New Deal but I heard great things so, I did stop by and talk to the guy (I think one of the owners). He was very nice, seemed to know his sushi and seemed to love talking about his product. Even though, I wasn't buying, he spent time with me and showed me his different types of tuna's, the yellowtail, sea urchin, salmon row and more. It all look great for sushi grade. He also recommends calling in advance to see what's available for sushi grade before making the trek in as he says he is very selective with his sushi grade fish (617-876-8227).He also carries ingredients for making sushi (vinigars, rice, wasabi, nori, etc...). Anyway, I had a good experience even though I didn't buy anything.

Report on China Pearl in Quincy

Thanks for the post. The only thing I had there was their beef and mustard greens for take out and it was quite good. I got two meals out of it. That was last week. The funny thing was that the person taking my order warned me that that is not an "americanised chinese dish". I got a kick out of that. Looking foward to trying things you mentioned. One of these weekends I'll try their dim-sum, dispite the mediocre reports. I go to the Duncan Donuts there almost every Sat and Sun morning and the place (not duncan donuts) is packed with would be dim-sum'ers waiting for a table. The loud speaker calling off the numbers in chinese and english just like china town.

Who Has the Best General T/GAU Chicken?

As far as I'm concerned there is nothing wrong with relishing Americanized Chinese. I very much like both Authentic and Americanized Chinese food and I consider them to be apples and oranges. There is no general Chinese for me. I,m either in the mood for Americanized or Authentic. No pillory from me.

International buffet in Quincy is now China Pearl!

I had a not so good meal myself around that time. Maybe they didn't care as they were on their way out. Anyway I did drop by to get the details and it did seem much cleaner inside and the food in the buffet seemed fresh. Not so sure I'll do the buffet but, I will report on the Dim Sum when I try it.
