Great Neighborhood Bar with Affordable and Delicious Food!

The Corner Tavern, on the corner of Mass Ave and Marlboro just redid their menu and added a bacon, cheese meatloaf sandwich that puts any burger to shame! Unbelieveable!! On another visit I had, chicken lettuce wraps, with really flavorful slow cooked meat, and a miso salmon cooked perfectly and served with a crisped jasmine rice cake and asparagus. On yet another visit, I had braised shortribs with mushroom bread pudding and roasted winter veggies. And did I mention that nothing on the menu costs more than $20. Apps and sandwiches (cuban, gyro, paninis) are about $7 with a side! The vibe is friendly and casual. Lots of tvs and people to talk to. I highly recommend.

Venue for 40th birthday party

I went to a birthday party at Masona Grill in West Roxbury. The food was really good, and there is plenty of parking.

ISO lunch ideas in/near West Roxbury

I've been to West 3-4 times, but I've never really had very good food there. I would recommend calling Masona Grill. They aren't typically open for lunch, but they very flexible and open up for a lot of private parties. You'd have the whole place to yourself, the food is outstanding, and the owner/chef would give you a very good price. They really go out of their way to make great food in a comfortable environment, and have a loyal following of very satisfied customers.

Spring 2009 Openings and Closings

Another new opening is The Corner Tavern on the corner of Mass Ave and Marlborough St. It use to be The Last Drop but has renovated and is now offering food. I went by last weekend (opening weekend) and it was really good. No burgers and fries, just slow cooked comfort food. I had the lobster mac and cheese and my friend had short ribs with mushroom bread pudding. Both items were absolutely perfect! They also have lots of good looking apps and paninis on the menu...that I'll be trying soon. The wine by the glass list was a deal, and they a few craft beers to choose from, as well as some really unusual high end tequilas. Very cool place. It's great to have something like that near where I work..for after work....of course!

Dottie's in Hyde Park

Does anyone have any info on if and when the new Dottie's in Hyde Park will start opening for dinner? I love 224 and would like to see something like that in the Dottie's space

Great Time in West Roxbury

I recently went out for dinner at the Masona Grill in West Roxbury. It's right near the T stop down the street from Roche Bros. I hadn't known it was there until I drove by......

I first tried to go on a Sat night but the place is slammed, and I didn't have a reservation, so I got a friend and checked it out on a Tues night.

The place has a great vibe. It's really cozy, relaxed, and warm with good music, and with servers that actually seem to enjoy their jobs. The menu wasn't too extensive, but it had a lot of options that I wanted to try. I ended up ordering the duck as my waitress recommended, and it was out of this world delicious, cooked perfectly, moist, and utterly fantastic. The sweet potato mash melted in my mouth. My friend got the Paella, which I tasted, and it was also very good. The seasoning was right on without being overdone. For appetizers we had a pear and blue cheese salad...alway a tasty pairing, and we had a shrimp ceviche that was terrific. Along with a pretty reasonable wine list and a piece of chocolate cake for dessert....Masona hit all the high notes for us. I'll definitely be making this a regular stop.
