Sushi Grade Fish - What's in season?
Hey guys,
I'm cooking a dinner the second week of June and I want to serve a sashimi course. I'm trying to cook from my garden and with local ingredients and following with that theme I wanted to serve some really nice fish. Is there anything that's in season around that time that's exceptional? It doesn't have to be local but hopefully at its seasonal peak.
TIA

Best Thai in Manhattan?
Wild Ginger, my friend and I stumbled on it last week and were pleasantly surprised. Great thai, cheap prices.
Powdered Gelatin - in larger amounts
I find that I am using more and more gelatin in my cooking and the knox packages just aren't doing it anymore. Is there any way to buy gelatin in bulk. I buy lecithin and other things in big tubs and since gelatin is used as a health supplement that it would be available in that kind of packaging.
Any ideas?
Decent stemware in bulk on a budget
I'm looking for some decent stemware in somewhat large quantities - 40 -100. I'm planning on doing food and wine tastings with a sommelier and I'm looking for something nice that isn't going to cost me Riedel prices. Any ideas?
Two couples - interesting food on a budget
I am meeting a couple in the city and we are looking for an interesting night of eating at somewhat of a budget. Maybe something with small plates and interesting wine by the glass or inventive cocktails and cool bar food. It doesn't have to be full on dinner. Any neighborhood is fine. TIA
Cheese heads on Long Island
Hey guys,
I live in Oceanside and I'm looking for a decent reputable cheese shop in the area. I have looked everywhere and can't find anything. The place I have found is Fairway in Plainview and other than that I have to either go out to Brooklyn or Manhattan. I need a way to feed my addiction in an easier manner. TIA
South American Reds - Pairings?
Depends on the Reds. Malbecs are really bold and can hold up to fatty meats. Carmenere is a bit less big and can go well with more delicate meats and veg. For desert I would go for chocolate. Berries and cherries would be fun as well.
Want to learn more about wine - community style
Hey guys. Basically I've been making a conscious effort to learn more about wine and taste as much as possible. I have somewhat of an ulterior motive - I'm going to need a palate in the future when cooking. I enjoy wine more and more but I find it hard to converse with people in real life about the subject. The question is, Is there any way to find local wine clubs and/or wine classes? I've looked around on search engines but haven't come up with much. It would just be nice to be able to compare notes and or share wine with other enthusiasts.
TIA
Oh by the way I live on Long Island, NY
bourdain in spain
I actually enjoyed it very much and it was one of my favorites so far. I was really hoping he would go to Mugaritz.
Mugaritz, Adria, Arzak, and the Grill guy...not to mention some of that great seafood, basque pinxos and onion grill? Jam packed. I love it.
Looking for a fun bar for a group
around 20 any neighborhood. I prefer somewhere downtown but really anything is good
Looking for a fun bar for a group
I'm wondering If anyone knows of any fun bars in the area that accommodate a group. I'm looking for something hopefully a little less club like that maybe has some food. I know its a vague question but i figured maybe someone would have some ideas.
TIA
Tapas ... hit or hype?
I think if the US could adopt tapas in the way they were actually intended to be served it would be much more interesting. Each place specializes in one type of tapa and perfects whatever it is that they make. Its impractical I know but it much better.
