leftover french baguettes recipe?

Wow - thanks for all the great ideas! Since I am pretty spent after spending so much time in the kitchen for the NYE party, I think I will get them into the freezer. I like the idea of having them on hand when I want them. Doing that had never ocurred to me.

Thanks again...

leftover french baguettes recipe?

Hi and Happy New Year!

I over bought and now have two huge baguettes that I don't want to waste. What can I do with them other than bread pudding? The ends are now a bit hard, but the bulk of them are still good....

If bread pudding is my only option, does anyone have a unique recipe?

Thanks,
JG

Birthday cakes - JP and South Shore

Hi - We're looking for a bakery that can bake up a great birthday cake. In JP, we've been disappointed with the bakeries there (for cake, anyway). We're looking from JP down to Quincy/Braintree/Weymouth. Any recs?

Thanks,
JG

Sintra in Braintree

I was there a couple of weeks ago and it was excellent. Both my app and dinner were specials. The app was a pizza with goat cheese and figs - I actually ate the whole thing because it was so good. I usually can only manage a few bites. The monkfish dinner was just as tasty. Oh, I forgot, had a blueberry somethingorother for dessert - another special. Just as fabulous as the the app and entree.
The waitstaff is great - attentive and they let you take your time. The dinning room and bar are both well appointed, warm and intimate. I'm looking forward to my next visit...

Eastern Standard?

Thank you all for your info! It seems as though both places require a visit, but for my upcoming Saturday night, I think we'll go with Petit Robert Bistro. It seems a bit more intimate for what we're looking for that night. The liveliness of ESK will be something to look forward to another time.

Thanks again, everyone!

Eastern Standard?

Heading into the Kenmore area for the night on Saturday - Is Eastern Standard worth the money? The menu looks inviting. Are the cod fritters good? How is the cheese plate selection? Is the hanger steak as tasty as Aquitaine? I'm spying that chocolate brioche bread pudding, too. I should really eat something now.

From the photos, the place looks cavernous. Is noisy and cold? Would we be better off at Petit Robert Bistro?

Ripe Bananas - what can I do with them?

Thanks. Blueberry cake sounds good, but I have no blueberries and I was hoping to just throw something together that's warm and tasty. Does the blueberry cake need the blueberries? Can it be banana cake? Then again, it may be too much like banana bread...

Ripe Bananas - what can I do with them?

They're sitting on my counter and I'm sick of banana bread. Does anyone have a simple recipe that I can whip up so when my daughter gets home from school she can have something tasty?

TIA,
JG

Where have you always had a bad meal?

Jimbo's in Braintree. To be honest, I haven't been in years. But long ago I had been many times and NOT once had even a passable meal there. Lousy food and service. Ugh. Finally, I decided to never be talked into going again - not even by one of my frugal, elderly relatives (who seem to love the place for some strange reason).

Pre-Celtics game dinner

Thanks for all the recs - ended up in the North End at Antico Forno, which worked out perfectly. It was a lovely, warm night and we strolled from Haymarket over to Salem Street and mostly enjoyed our early pre-game meal. I had the linguini al frutti de mare and my companion had the fusilli al tegamino. We first shared an antipasto that was loaded with quality prosciutto (sp?)and salami. The cheeses were just "eh" and SO "eh" that we left them on the plate. That was a disappointment - minor one, though. The bread was not worth the calories but the main courses were excellent. Had a decent bottle of barbera d'asti and we weren't rushed at all, which was great.

Pre-Celtics game dinner

Hi -

Wondering where we might have a nice dinner near the Garden before the game. Is the North End too far away? Anywhere else?

Thanks,

Edinburgh

My dad and cousin are heading to Edinburgh tonight. Wondering where they can eat in town that is reasonably priced. They would like something that would be typical of the area. Fish? They'll be eating in pubs for lunch, so they're looking for something a little different for dinners.
Thanks,

Speed's

NOOO! I didn't make it. I got hung up in Braintree running errands and by the time I finished it was too late. I was so disappointed. I'm trying to convince my boss that we need a team building event and a lunch outing to Speed's would be the perfect thing. sigh. Well, at least I have until Thanksgiving.

Speed's

IIRC from previous posts, Speed's is by the tool place in Newmarket and he is there Tuesday - Friday? Hours are 11a-2p? I've never been and since I have Tuesday off, I feel the need to try one of those famous dogs! Is my info up-to-date?

Need Cooperstown Recommendation for Sunday

I am not familiar with the establishments you mention, but I do know of a great place nearby. Sharon Springs is about 30 minutes from Cooperstown. Check out www.americanhotelny.com. Their restaurant is fabulous. If it's in your area, it is definitely worth a visit.
