They also carry them at the Koreatown Galleria (good quality in my experience.)

Formerly California Wok Opens on Westside With Authentic Chinese Goodies

I'm looking forward to going deeper into the menu as well. Unfortunately, I tried to order the lamb dish (the one on the chef's special menu) and they said it wasn't available.

But the salt-and-pepper shrimp was very good, especially by the standards of the west side.

Formerly California Wok Opens on Westside With Authentic Chinese Goodies

I'd had lunch here once or twice when it was still known as California Wok. It was a pretty mediocre experience.

I'm happy to report that the restaurant formerly known as California Wok is considerably better (at least based on the one meal I just had -- "spicy salt pork chop")

Posting the new menu as well. Hope this place works out.

Beijing Pie House Temporarily Closed

Agreed, Taster. The lamb pie is one of my favorite foods in Los Angeles.

Best brands of Asian red/black vinegar and places to get in LA?

Gold Plum brand shows up in a lot of "highly recommended" lists. You can certainly find at grocery stores in the SGV, and I suspect in Chinatown as well.

Exile Kiss Blog

I first read about Exile's blog here on chowhound (http://exilekiss.blogspot.com/) and am sad to see no updates for the last few years. It was a great resource for LA food.

Does anyone know what's happened to it?

World Series (Wednesday Night) in West LA With 7-year-old

Can anyone think of a good place for food and drinks and a television with the World Series for me and my son?

I suspect most sports bars won't exactly be keen on having a minor around, but perhaps there are "kid-friendly" areas?

Then I'm going to go along with Jase and recommend Pann's.

What part of town are you in? I would think distance from fryer to your front door would be a significant factor.

Where to buy small dried fava beans on the Westside to make ful medames

I'm sure that Payless International Market on Venice Blvd (just east of Overland) will have the canned version, but I suspect they will have dried as well.

Where To Buy Sugar Cane Stalks in San Gabriel/Alhambra/Monterey Park Area?

Most of the Banh Mi & Che Cali places in the SGV make their own sugar cane juice (nước mía). I think it costs $2 or $3. I imagine you could buy some from them. The location on Valley, just east of San Gabriel, definitely sells the drink. Good luck.

Does anyone know what happened to Yu Garden? Drove by today and it's been replaced by a place called Yue Lai Restaurant.

Help! Looking for hoisen sauce...

I have seen it at the 99 Ranch in Gardena. That might be the closest place for you, TeaMe, or perhaps the 99 Ranch in Van Nuys?

"Different" or unique Dumpling fillings?

Beijing Pie House has pan-fried or steamed dumplings with pumpkin, pork and shrimp. I like them very much.

Pho near Hollywood willing to travel!

I think that Pho 4000 (on Western at 4th) is the best pho in Koreatown. I think Pho So 1 in Van Nuys is a notch better. I'd factor in distance/traffic and get your boyfriend healthy.

Too much arugula -- help!

The backyard vegetable bed is producing arugula at an astonishing rate. Thoughts on non-salad preparations? The more I can use, the better.

Looking spicy/authentic Szechuan in SGV! Which of these options (or others I've missed) do you recommend?

Another big fan of Lucky Noodle King. Never too crowded and wonderful food. I even think you could get the dan dan mien without pork if you asked.

Dried Beancurd Sheets / Dumpling Question

I'm following a recipe for vegetarian dumplings that includes dried beancurd in the dumpling. Do you figure it's necessary to soak the sheets first, or can they just be added to the filling mixture and will soften up when the dumplings are cooked? Thanks.

Luckattack has it right. I think you'll find it in the freezer section of just about any medium-sized Asian grocery store in the SGV. They're cheap too.
