May 2012 Openings and Closings
Interesting - thanks for the update. Odd name though. Brunello and Italian cuisine works better than Brunello and Brazilian. But it's the food that counts, so we shall see.
May 2012 Openings and Closings
Brunello Bistro is closed for renovations. "We are washing our face and putting on makeup." They say check back in a few weeks, but since I don't know how long they've been closed, I'm not sure when that will be.
May 2012 Openings and Closings
Yesterday I noticed that the windows in Al Fresco in Somerville are papered over. There was a sign on the door that I wasn't able to read from across the street, so I'm not sure if they've closed or are renovating or some other explanation. Does anyone know more?
Chow-worthy in Nonantum?
Vecchia Roma restaurant is a small family-run place with very good food (as of the few years ago I tried it.)
Sunday Lunch in Watertown
I'm not sure if it's open for lunch, but The Talk on Main Street near Watertown Square might fit the bill.
Round table for 10 that's not Chinese?
Practically Newton - Solea in Waltham is good for groups.
Nice dinner near Royal Sonesta, Cambridge
Helmand is a short walk for good Afghan food, including bread you can watch being pulled from the oven right before it is cut and brought to your table. Be sure to make reservations.
Town Diner Anti-Customer Service
That's bizarre. I've been seated in a booth at peak dinner time with only one other person in my party. I hope they're not turning obnoxious!
Mixtura
Thanks for the feedback (no pun intended.) They are supposedly open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, so it might be worth a shot to try lunch or dinner to see if it's any more exciting. I'll have to check it out sometime soon.
Mixtura
Has anyone tried Mixtura yet? This is the "Latin fusiion" place where Danny's Diner used to be. The Somerville Scout says the owner "is the very same woman who brought Somerville Machu Picchu", but the food is not strictly Peruvian. (The Scout has a picture of a Salvedorean Omelet.) Sounds intriguing.
Cheap Lunch in Cambridge near Kendall Square?
Nice recs, except I wouldn't recommend Tommy Doyle's for any meal. The food I've had at the one in Newton the couple of times I've been dragged with colleagues has been horrid. Maybe I needed to drink more beer first.
December 2011 Openings and Closings
According to the Herald, Bourbon Coffee is slated to open this month (finally.) Sounds like a place worth checking out:

Looking for a good lunch spot in Somerville
Ronnarong Thai
Buk Kyung for Korean (not fancy, but food is good)
If Tupelo is open for lunch, it's a fun spot.
Going Away Lunch for a co-worker in Cambridge?
There's the brand new Casbah that sounds promising. Right off of the rotary.

first time at Mulan. What are your favorites?
The eel with sticky rice deserves its high praise! I also like Bean Curd with Dry Bean Sauce for its crunchy, savory delicousness.
Nudo Gelateria - Newton
I stopped by once to pick up a panini for lunch, as I work nearby. I was not impressed. The bread was stale, perhaps because they do not do much sandwich business? I don't even remember what kind of sandwich it was (several weeks ago now), but I suspect it may be wisest to stick with the gelato and sorbet. I only had tastes of those and thought they were okay, if not exactly to die for. I do wish them success, and hopefully as business picks up, so will the freshness factor of their panini.
NYC 'Hounds Moving to Boston/Somerville
Some good suggestions in this thread. I'd add Pescatore, just off Broadway in Ball Square for good seafood in a cozy neighborhood space. Also in Ball Square, there's Yak & Yeti (Nepali & Indian). In Davis Square, check out Martsa on Elm for yummy Tibetan food.

Thanks - that sounds encouraging. I'm hoping their panini will be decent as I work in the area and miss the Bobalicious banh mi from the early days when they were still good.

Nudo (gelato, panini, pastry, coffee), in the former Bobalicious space, has signs saying they will open this Saturday, the 4th.

Healthy eating near Harvard/Porter Square
A non-restaurant option might be prepared food from Pemberton Farms. They've got a nice selection and the food is good.
April 2011 Openings and Closings
Yes, it was an odd little place with a very small parking lot in a place with no on-street parking. I only ate there once or twice and enjoyed it, though not enough to rave about it to friends that they had to go there. I'm surprised they lasted as long as they did.
I wonder what will go in the space.
April 2011 Openings and Closings
Do you mean "available" as in open for business or as in "this space available for a new business because Tantawan has closed"? It's always been hard to tell if they are in business or not, and I wondered what its status was.
Bobalicious - Newton
Those were sisters, the original owners. They left a year or so ago, and it was never as good afterward. Sad. I wish they had succeeded.
April 2011 Openings and Closings
Bom Cafe, in the old Muqueca space, is open. The chalkboard sign outside listed coffee, bread, omelettes, and juice. That sounds pretty limited, but I didn't have a chance to see if there was a menu posted anywhere. Does anyone know if they serve a broader menu than this?

Looking for Quail Eggs
I just had some at a friend's house. She got them at H Mart in Burlington.
Pinkberry - Harvard Square
I should probably save this for April Openings and Closings, but Pinkberry has announced an opening date for its new Harvard Square store - April 8th:

Thanks, Itaunas. If it's the Muqueca folks I'll certainly want to check it out, when they finally open. Maybe it's worth another visit to the new Muqueca space for dinner and to ask what they know... (Any excuse!)

I was wondering about the old Muqueca place too, as I walked by yesterday. They've got a sign (Cafe Bom) but paper is covering the windows. I can't even tell what kind of restaurant it will be if it ever opens. Does anyone know?
