Poor grad student gets $100 to spend on nice meal out--where???

I believe that they authorize for an additional 20%.... so as long as the restaurant doesn't authorize for more than 83 or so dollars you should be able to close the card out to the full $100.

WOW cake

Jorg from Truly Jorg's has been on those food network cake decorating challenges so nice look indeed.

Giacomo's - From The Briny Seas

How do you know how long the water and bread has been waiting for you on the table? 2 mins? 30 minutes? I would have wondered if someone sat down and asked to move tables so they just left the water and bread on the table...

bulk candy for an event

Sweet factory I think is still in the Natick Mall...however...
their website even divides the selection by color. Visions of a beautiful candy buffet!

Bachelorette Party Dinner and Drinks Near Jacques Cabaret

I went to a Bachelorette party including Jacques where we hit up Pho Republique prior to the show. Not walkable--but a short cab ride.

Super 88 Food Court- Allston

Don't know if you've been in the past but if your making the journey as far as Super88 you might consider going a few more blocks and hitting up JoJo Taipei. That I think is a must eat.

Agave Nectar

I think most whole foods carry it. (Definitely purchased some from the whole foods in Wellesley)
and good call on the margaritas!

Gluten-Free brunch--is it possible?

the additional problem with dim sum is soy sauce (or sometimes fish sauce) which has gluten in it :(

Best Allston Breakfast options

maybe petty..but I think it's Twin Donuts...

Winter 2009 Restaurant Week Reviews

an upsell is an upsell...but perhaps "comparable" wine in flavor profile?

This Vintage Leaves Sour Taste

Im pretty sure there are a lot of very talented sous chefs in Boston who would be more than thrilled to make 55k... from what I know of restaurants...you don't cook cuz there is money in it....at least not compared to the hours you actually work.

Stimulus Package Cocktails?

This has been mentioned in context of bar food deals I think but Union in the South End has $5 (and 95 cents) cocktails going (along with some free nibbles at the bar.)

Deep Ellum more than slightly annoying.

Parsnipity I think you make a good point... if the manager and waitstaff went out of their way...and the beer selection is good...then I think you'll always do fine at Deep Ellum if you consider it a bar that also serves food...not a restaurant with a great beer selection.

Sometimes its all about perception and expectations...

Lunch Near Emerson President's Day

When I was a student at Emerson I'd always head over to chinatown for lunch...

and the emerson cafe is not bad. sometimes i still get a craving for a chicken pesto panini.

Toro recomendations

i have also always enjoyed the dates..the sweet and tangy combination...I call my pregnant taste buds... I love them.

Disappointing Meal at La Verdad-Does this reflect Oringer?

for some reason I always find that I like both the churros and corn at Toro better than at La Verdad...

Hibachi Recs Boston or Metrowest

Kikuyama is the place in dedham ct

Fugakyu Alternative

hmmm...but escolar aka butterfish is not the butterfish that is aka black cod... learn something new on chowhound every day!

Drinks near the Blue Room

What about cuci cuci? Right in the neighborhood too.

Recos Needed Please!

ALWAYS call a restaurant if there are no reservations on opentable...90% of restaurants do not put all their availability online..to allow their own flexibility... given the current economic slump i can hardly imagine no 9 is full up

Annoying experience at Legal Seafoods

i agree. there is a fine line between being sensitive about allergies and sensitive about service. One would figure in this day and age if you had a serious enough allergy that cross contamination from the fryer might be a concern that the dinner would raise the concern...
but as a server in a restaurant that takes allergies seriously (not to the same annoyance level that Cachetes...) it can be frustrating to find out that someone is allergic to something that he or she can now taste but has been consuming in previous courses unaware.

while the server at legals sounded a little bit like an overprotective mother imagine the relief you would have felt had your allergy been literally life threatening and they handled it so carefully...

L'Andana's, Burlington, MA

There are a couple of detailed reviews in this thread from earlier this year when L'Andana opened.

Norwood Dinner

I second the Mint Cafe recommendation. I am partial to the crazy noodle dish.
http://mintcafe.net/
Also downtown Norwood is Napper Tandy's-Friendly neighborhood bar with decent pub food.

Chicken Bone/Framingham

the buffalo chicken cheese dip is one of those foods in my opinion that you know is so bad for you but it tastes so right you don't care.

Perfect Sazerac?

I'd also agree with Deep Ellum. I think their cocktails (and their bartenders) are spot on.

Blue Ginger Lounge

fJust to note, the pork osso buco is actually on the dinning room menu not the lounge menu, hence the dinning room price.

What Happened to B&G Oysters???

In terms of the menu I know that Barbara Lynch has been in on the line a fair amount in the last month updating and will be refreshing the Butcher Shop's menu next (or maybe as I type this.)

Deep Ellum Slightly Annoying

french fries and cocktails. never been disappointed with that combo.
