Zweifel Provencale Chips

I've been looking to buy Zweifel Provencale Chips. I tried it Switzerland and can't forget the flavour.

Does anyone know if it's sold in Canada/US? I also wouldn't mind buying it online (if I can get them to ship it to Toronto). Any help would be great.

In Search of Romantic, Stellar Restaurant

Most recently I was there 3 days ago and had yet another great meal + enjoyed the view.

Please help! Private function/Asian cuisine/Near MTL Airport

Hello CHers,

I am from Toronto and am organizing a private function in Montreal. We are having an event on a weekday at a hotel near Montreal Airport (Trudeau) and would like to have an evening function for 25 people in a private room.

We prefer either Chinese or Japanese cuisine, set menu/price per person. No buffets - higher end preferred.

We are willing to drive up to 20 minutes away from the airport.

Any suggestion is welcome and will be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Toronto A La Cart: Korean Food Street Vendor

I completely agree. I think it will be another couple of years before we see anything solid. As a Korean-Canadian, I would love to see this happen sooner than later.

Spoon & Fork (Mississauga Location)!!!

A friend of mine and I went for dinner last night. We ordered chicken & shrimp pad thai, jumbo tiger shrimps & scallops in red curry, smoked ginger duck.

Pad thai was nicely done, very easy to eat.
Our scallops came cooked nicely and we fully enjoyed the curry sauce. We also got a bowl of steamed rice to go with it, and I couldn't get enough of it.
Last but not least, the duck was so nice and moist. Initially we were gonna go with BBQ curry duck but since we already had red curry in seafood, we decided to go with ginger duck. It was slightly on the saltier side, but overall the dish was great.

We did order too much for 2 people (we just wanted to try different things) so they offered kindly to wrap up the rest.

A very pleasant meal. I will return to this location and also check out the other locations.

I actually took advantage of this coupon a couple of months ago. When you order, just show it to them and they will take care of the bill.

Indian fusion

Reporting back.

I went to Amaya's Bread Bar yesterday with my brother. It's a cozy place.

Before I start off, I would like to mention that I am somewhat of a novice to Indian food. Therefore, I may not be a perfect person to critique on Indian food, but overall, our experience at Amaya's Bread Bar was pleasant, and we came out pretty stuffed.

One of the staff came and let us know that their tasting course is priced at "market value" aka 1% of Dow Jones Industrial Average at end of day trading - for TWO people! I found this quite amusing! So our meals were charged for $78.82 + tax - excluding the 4 glasses of wine we had. Anyway so that's what we had, since we wanted to try a bunch of different things to begin with.

It started off with spinach pakora (I think) with a little bit of fig filling, along with chicken tikka. Both were quite good. We enjoyed the spinach + fig combination, it was nice and creamy almost. Chicken tikka was fairly standard, I would say.

I actually requested for butter chicken to be somewhere during the course. And it came along with beef vindaloo (if that's the name for braised beef with spicy sauce), a salmon dish, a spiced cauliflower and potato dish, as well as naans and basmati long grain. Overall the food was quite delicious, and they came in decent portions for two people to share... that we didn't get to finish any one of them, really. Both of us agreed that the butter chicken was fantastic. It was nice and flavourful, great with the rice and naan. - and of course the naan and rice were great.

On a side note, the appetizers were served nice and hot, but the main course (chicken, beef, veggies, rice and naan) arrived at a rather warm termerature. I might be wrong, just because we let the food sit on the table and conversed for good 3-5 minutes before eating. So I won't bug them on it. I will know the next time I visit.

On the dessert plate were three different types of yummies - two pieces each - creamy chocolate with a dark chocolate shell , biscuits and squares. We enjoyed all but the biscuits, as it wasn't too exciting. I really wanted a scoop of Greg's Ice Cream but as I already mentioned, we were too full for anything else.

Forgot to mention, I had a sparkling wine to start, then asked for suggestions on a white based on what I liked, and I got just what I wanted. Same with dessert wine. Overall I was pleased with the server's knowledge and ability to recommend the right ones.

The server saw us towards the end of our main course that he would suggest wrapping up leftovers because they are just as good the next day. It was a nice offer, because we had about half of everything left behind - Again, not because we didn't enjoy, because we certainly did. We were just full! They individually wrapped everything and put them in a nice paper bag for us.

What I particularly liked is that the owner was walking by every table to ensure that everything was going well. He was a pleasant and welcoming person.

Overall, we had a great time, and it was a good place to be introduced to Indian food. I have a number of friends around me who have yet to try Indian food, and I think it's a great place to be introduced to it. So I will definitely make a trip back with friends.

Snarf, thanks for the recommendation. We came home pretty happy.

Best Peking Duck in Toronto?

Second Ambassador. Just great.

Worst in Toronto

Embrujo on Danforth.
Terrible service/management. I could manage the food and the show, but if the management gives you some serious attitude as opposed to being accommodating and friendly, I think I should spread the word to make sure that people don't go here.

Sushi Takeout - near Eaton Centre (Dundas & Bay, Dundas & Yonge)

thanks for the menu. will definitely try soon.

Shang menu at Lee and Madeline's

Interesting. My shrimp was definitely not overcooked and the XO sauce was not bland either. Did you go last night as well?

Shang menu at Lee and Madeline's

Had the Shang menu at Madeline's last night.

My friend got the regular Shang menu, while I asked for substitution for beef. I was served cornish hen instead of steak and the rest on the plate was identical to the steak dish. Tried both of them and both were great.

The shrimp dish was great, it was a very similar presentation to a lobster dish that I previously had at Susur. It was quite delish.

Next was tuna sashimi, and I read somewhere that it had some complex flavours - it actually did. I wasn't thrilled about it, but the fish itself was fresh and enjoyable.

Then was the tofu dish. My friend does not like tofu... but he had no problem finishing this one. It was a softer tofu, with spinach and mushrooms... very delish. The sauce for this particular dish was great.

Lastly the molten chocolate cake. At this point, we felt like we were going to pass out. Both of us were only able to finish half of the cake. It was a standard dish, but done well. Nice warm chocolate oozing out.

We took a bottle of wine with us, and there were other people also taking advantage of the $1 corkage fee (M, T, W only).

Overall a decent time at Madeline's. It was not super innovative but quite good.

Indian fusion

I've been reading up a lot of mixed reviews for Amaya on Bayview. Slightly confused...

I think I might give Amaya's Bread Bar a try. Seems to have more positive reviews than the Bayview location.

Thoughts?

Does Japango have a website or menu online somewhere? I googled Japango and get www.kabukirestaurant.ca but this place seems to have a different address... unless their menus are identical.

Indian fusion

Awesome, thanks!

Indian fusion

Quick question, is the one on Yonge called Amaya's Bread Bar?

Indian fusion

Both menus look phenomenal. I will definitely try one of the two in the coming weeks. Thanks a ton for the rec, Snarf!

Indian fusion

I need some directions from CHers on Indian fusion food.

I am looking for a restaurant/menu similar to Xacutti. I had a few good meals there and have been wanting to go back, but clearly it's closed. Quite sad about it... although I hear the new restaurant in place (Grace) is decent.

Any price range & willing to travel (GTA).

To sum up, either an Indian fusion restaurant or an Indian restaurant with a menu friendly enough for first timers (and by that I mean to the Indian cuisine).

Thanks in advance!

Shang menu at Lee and Madeline's

I will be at Madeline's for the Shang menu tomorrow evening so will post feedback.

Surprise Birthday Dinner

Is the cornish hen subsitution the same dish as the one on the Madeline's menu (with gorgonzola cheese sauce)? Were they accommodating to substitution?

Need a romantic restaurant to have dinner with girlfriend

yeah scaramouche is good. need to get the window seat though. (can ask and arrange)

Oysters

Thanks CarNut. I actually called them yesterday to find out when they are open, since I wanted to go this evening. I am looking forward to next week! Will post feedback.

Oysters

Does anyone know when Rodneys by Bay (on Temperance St.) comes to life? I passed by about a month ago and it seemed like they are going to open soon. Or is it open already?

Omega 3 – Fabulously Fragrant Fish Broth with Vermicelli & no MSG (review + pics)

Just a quick correction, Chap Chae is the Korean potato starch noodle stir fried with veggies and meat. The actual noodle is called Dang Myun. :)

And those noodles look super delish!

Jam Asian Kitchen Martini & Wine Bar - Oakville

I agree (JAM in PC), their drinks are creative. I like how they have drink "specials"... I can't remember what I had but the name indicated that it had a ginger-y flavour to it, and they actually had fresh ginger minced in it. It gave quite a nice kick.

And I also agree with food. Some are good, but pad thai is not done as well as others. However, I really think it's a super cozy place for a nice evening of drinks with close friends (not 10 of them, mind you). We return again and again for an intimate evening.

Embrujo Flamenco, Tapas Restaurant - A quick review

Totally agree with pinstripeprincess. Terrible service experience at Embrujo and never returned since. The manager is a... really unpleasant person, to put it in a nice way. My guests from US left all upset and I wished I could turn back time and choose another restaurant.

Scaramouche Lobsterlicious - Any reports?

I was there last night as well.

The amuse had an onion-y smell to it and since I don't eat raw onions, they quickly brought me a goat cheese amuse, which was delish.

I had the bisque to start, where as my companion had the risotto. Someone mentioned it was salty (above). I eat fairly bland at home but I did not think it was salty for a bisque. I liked the touch of basil oil with it. My companion enjoyed the risotto as well.

For mains, I had poached whereas my companion had grilled. I enjoyed mine, and I agree with Derksen that it was slightly on the chewier side, but no biggie. I enjoyed the vegetables and cauliflower puree. On the bacon butter issue, I actually didn't mind it. The companion enjoyed his grilled one, but again I think it was a bit on the chewier side for the tail.

For dessert, I got the coconut cream pie, and the companion got the hazelnut partfait. Both of them were enjoyed, but I couldn't finish the pie as it was big. I enjoyed that it was on a lighter side as opposed to heavy in terms of the consistency of cream on the pie.

Service was fantastic. I don't know why I never made it out to Scaramouche before. Anyway when we first arrived, we were slightly confused by where we were, just because of where the restaurant is located. But it's nice inside, the view is amazing and overall a great dinner.

Oakville Saturday or Sunday Brunch?

I third Stoney's. I wanted to go to a decent breakfast joint in Mississauga but did not have too many good options so we made a trip out to Oakville for it. It was a pleasant experience.

Japanese Curry Query

I agree. I had a decent Tonkatsu curry at Ematei as well. It's kept fairly simple but great flavours. Thinking of it makes me hungry... and it's not even 10am yet.
