Great food near United Palace (175th & Broadway)? Right across the street is Malecon which has great Dominican food. There is also Aqua marina at Broadway and 171 whihc has pretty good italian. If you have time to go a little father one of the best places in the are (in my humble opinion) is Mamajuana cafe which is about two blocks form the Dyckman st A train stop. It is a few stops north of the United but well worth it if you can get the time. Take the A to Dyckman, exit the stairs to the lft and cross broadway. It is one blcol down on the corner of Dyckman and Seaman Ave (Across from the gas station). ----- |

Fat Annies Truck Stop has, accourding to me and a few other Texans, the best CFS in NYC. FATS is on 33rd street between 6th adn 7th. Acme and Cowgirl both also have a good version but I think Fat Annies' tops them all!! |

Mara's Homemade on 6th street in the city has a crawfish boil. I have not had it but have had many other things there and they were good. |

For Ribs, Dinosaur is the way to go. I am from Texas and BBQ is something I consider myself to be an expert on. I have tested quite a few of the new BBQ joints in the city and Ribs are best and Dinosaur. Hill Country has great meat...the beef shoulder and brisket are to die for....but their ribs just don't vut it. Enjoy! |

Bagged Lunches for volunteer days? I don;t know exactly where we will be but we will be without a car and the suggestions of the volunteer organization (On Site Relief) was to bring something so we don't have to burn up a lot of time off site looking for lunch which I have to agree with. I have been to Nola several times but not post Katrina and my friend who are coming with have never been. We live in New York (native Texans) and are so looking forward to coming down and helping out. We have wanted to do it for quite some time and are so glad it finally worked out. Thanks everyone!! |

Had not thought of that but of course you have to have the olives!! And Deja Vu will be perfect for our second day!! We are set. I can't wait go get back down there. It has been so ling since I was in Nola and I just love the city! My tummy is grumbling thinking of the great food we will have! |

Bagged Lunches for volunteer days? We are coming to town and doing a few volunteer days building in the Lower 9th and we have been told that we shold bring a bagged lunch as open restuarants are hadr to find in the area. We are staying at the Prince Conti hotel...does anyone know of a place nearby that would be a good bet for a bagged lunch that would hold up overnight? Or any place that would be open in the morning before we have to depart at 8AM? Thanks for your help!! |

Great Burger in a Magazine Street Bar Oh that one made me chuckle but we were sober!! Maybe it was the atmospehere or the company I was with that made it such a great memory. Or it cound have been that we were there for a conference and getting away from it for a bit was so delightful that it really seemed amazing! I tihnk finding decent food in a bar was part of it too. I live in New York and aside from Corner Bistro we don't have a lot of bars with really good food. |

Great Burger in a Magazine Street Bar That could be it...I was traveling from Bourbon street and I seem to recall it being on the left side of the street? |

Great Burger in a Magazine Street Bar I was in NOLA SEVERAL years ago and we had the most amazing burger in a bar on Magazine street. Or at least that is how I remember it!! It was a small hole in the wall sort of place and you placed your order at a small window inside. Does anyone have ANY IDEA where this is? I know it was on Magazine....we are coming back in March and I want to go back!! Thanks!! |
