Prime Meats Report
I've been nothing but upset with Prime Meats lately. The German style food is good, but their steak just isn't. I've ordered the rib eye for 2-3 the last 2 times I've been there, and I feel like I'm getting hosed. Fatty cuts, not a lot of meat, and more expensive than any steak in town. I went with some buddies a few weeks back and we dropped $173 on a steak for 3 (pre tax, pre tip) and were all righting over the bones after. Hardly any meat, tons of fat. I was almost ostracized for recommending such a "fail". Unless it's for schnitzel or a burger, Prime Meats is out of the rotation.

Wait time at Au Pied Du Cochon on a Friday night?
I tried getting a table at APDC for next Friday but they're booked. Do they take walk-ins? If i show up w/ 5 or 6 people in the evening, what would the wait be like?
Dog friendly restaurants in Brooklyn?
Summer's here, and nothing beats grabbing a bite or a drink outside with our 4-legged friends. Do you have any dog-friendly/outdoor restaurants which you frequent? I live in Carroll Gardens, and my wife and I tend to frequent Francesco's Pizza, Enoteca On Court, and Downtown Bar & Grill. I've heard Buttermilk Channel is dog friendly too (the outdoor seating).
Share your recommendations and tips here!

M. Wells Dinner
I had dinner at M Wells last week and it was fantastic. I came with 4 guys and we all brought our appetites, so the meal played out nicely.
We started with oysters w/ coffee sabayon, which was the only real dud of the night. The sabayon overpowered the oyster way too much.
Next up was tilefish and scallop ceviche w/ corn, avocado, cukes, and lime. Very tasty dish served with grilled bread. Flavors worked nicely together and had a clean flavor, very unexpected for a center of gluttony.
For apps we split the blue cheese salad (tasted good, but a standard blue cheese/pecan/apple salad, nothing new or over the top), bone marrow and escargot (delicious! very rich and flavorful. I think they bread/fry the marrow which was really nuts, in a good way), and crab bread pudding which was basically a big delicious crab cake that had some peas/carrots mixed in.
For entrees, we ordered the burger (might have been the best I've ever had. Bun, patty, cheese, everything was perfect. Didn't feel gimmicky at all!), the ham steak (really interesting dish... big slabs of char-grilled "white" pork and "dark" pork, similar to a porterhouse w/ strip & filet, served in a maple jus w/ dirty mashed potatoes. I've never seen a pork dish like this before, very creative. Last but not least was the stuffed cabbage, the highlight of the night. Traditional jewish stuffed cabbage w/ foie gras in the meat mix and a lobe of foie on top, served in a huge lasagne tray ($53). That dish alone w/ a small salad could have easily fed all 5 of us. Definitely the highlight of the night, and i wish i brought home the leftovers in hindsight :)
With drinks, tax and tip it was less than $60/pp, great value overall. I'd highly recommend it.
M. Wells Dinner
For anyone that's been to APDC in Montreal, how does M Wells compare? I went there for my bachelor party and it was probably the most memorable meal of my life. I'm going to M Wells in a few weeks with the same guys and wanted to know what to expect...
Must eats in Miami Beach?
I'm going to South Beach with some friends for a long weekend later this month and I want to round up some restaurants to try out while we're down there. We won't have a car, so staying in Miami Beach would be ideal. I've heard Joe's Stone Crabs is really great, so we'll probably have lunch or dinner there one night. I would also love to find a great Cuban sandwich and maybe Cuban food. Nothing fancy.

Getting fed up with Chinese delivery options in Carroll Gardens
Aub - I'm testing this out on Sunday night and will report back. I'm very excited about this.
FYI - Hunan Delight is garbage. Their wonton soup tasted like water.

Getting fed up with Chinese delivery options in Carroll Gardens
I went to Michael & Ping's when they did the Groupon special a few months back and was thoroughly disappointed. I got Kung Pao chicken which was liquidy and bland. I could have done better at a Red Apple :)

Hunan Taste in Park Slope has awful Wonton Soup and most of their dishes suck. Lichee Nut in the Heights has terrible wok dishes. Me & My Eggroll should be shut down by the DOH. Grand Schezuan (or whatever that nice place on Smith was called) closed down. What's a Carroll Gardens resident to do?
Please let me know how you cope with eating Chinese food in this neighborhood b/c 5 years later, I still can't find a decent option.

Dinner in the Lower 40's, east side.
I'm meeting a friend for dinner near Park and 40th tomorrow. That region is no man's land for me. Any recommendations on good eats? Burgers, mexican, korean, anything reasonable (
should me and my girlfriend go to aquavit or convivio for restaurant week?
I've only been to Convivio and have had excellent experiences every time. Great food, great service, great atmosphere.
Where can I find this year's menu?

Strong Place
I've been here about half a dozen times with my wife and we both love it. I've never seen the place packed, so maybe business isn't doing so well. I think a website would really help drive traffic. The dishes are thoughtful, good quality, well priced, vegetarian friendly (big plus for the wife) and different than the same crap you see everywhere ("modern soul food", butternut squash everything, minimal italian/tapas). The service is above average and I find it a very refreshing addition to the neighborhood. I hope it sticks around for a long time.
New Italian reco's
My wife's birthday is this month and I was thinking of taking her to Osteria Morini or Ciano. If anyone's been to both, which would you recommend? I know they're really different menus, but I'd love to hear your input.
Thanks!

I need smoked salmon help!
It wasn't pastrami style, the seasoning was barely noticeable. Maybe it was Nova? The hotel's website says the salmon is house smoked, doesn't help much!
I need smoked salmon help!
I was in Montreal recently and had brunch at the Hotel le Crystal. One of the courses was half of a Montreal-style bagel with cream cheese and a very unique and delicious smoked salmon. Now, I've only eaten smoked salmon about 2-3 times total in my life (it always grossed me out as a child and I don't care for regular salmon), but this was absolutely amazing. It had an nearly translucent, deep red color - almost like sushi tuna and the edges were also faintly coated with some seasoning (crushed peppercorns?). It was one of my food highlights among a weekend of gorging with friends.
I live in NYC and would love to find smoked salmon like this, but the only stuff you see around here is your typical pink-ish, opaque, "lox". Is there a particular style that's similar to my Montreal experience that I should be searching for?
Old Fashioned?
I have a great recipe that's been a big hit with my friends.
2oz Rye (Old Overholt is a great option)
1 dashes of Orange Bitters
Teaspoon of Maraschino Cherry juice
Add ice, mix, strain. Garnish with orange peel.
Cocktails/Dinner before/after the theater
I'm seeing a show at the Sondheim tonight... 43rd and 7th. What's a good spot to grab a drink beforehand? A good liquor/drink menu would be ideal (bourbons, whiskeys, interesting cocktails, etc).
Any recommendations for a cool and quick post show dinner would be great too... anywhere that a vegetarian wouldnt have too hard a time.

Brooklyn snacks for a wedding
I'm getting married next month and my fiance and I were thinking of having a table of interesting BK snacks lined up near the exit as the party finishes.
Some ideas: Prime Meats' pretzels, Baked's Marshmallows, Mini Steve's Key Lime pies, stuff like that.
Any ideas on stuff that's more cost effective or delicious?

Recently reviewed Park Slope restaurants in NY Times?
I recall a recent slew of PS restaurants popped up in NYT reviews. One was a locavore-ish, new American spot that looked amazing. They did a nice looking brunch. Anyone know the name? Sorry I don't have more details.
Mid/East 30s help...
I'm meeting up with a few friends tonight for a party around 35th and Madison.
Any recommendations for a reasonably priced, decent meal in the area? Nothing that would be a mob-scene (anything ACE-esque is a no-go). Mexican, Thai, American, it's all good!
Thanks.
Brucie -- Court Street
I went last night with a bunch of friends and we had a fantastic meal. I'm pretty sure we ordered everything on the menu and it was literally ALL great and reasonably priced to boot.
The major standouts were the broccoli crostini, the aforementioned tagliatelle with burrata/Brussels sprouts, and chicken parm hero. Our other dishes were also delicious - the ingredients are sourced from top-notch local artisans/vendors, and the owners have a strong passion for what they're doing that's very genuine. I was chatting w/ them during our meal and it looks like they have some cool things lined up, like a take-home lasagna service, cooking classes, and wholesaling homemade pasta to local restaurants. Definitely keep your eyes open for this one, it's a very welcomed addition to Court St.

New Brooklyn restaurant roundup
It looks like a few new places have emerged over the past month or so, and I thought it'd be good to list them all here instead of creating a bunch of new threads. Post your experiences if you've been to either:
Athena on Smith St, Greek (bout friggin time!!!)
Strong Place on Court St, Gastropub
Breukelyn on Clinton, New American/Locavore (replaced the old Cafe on Clinton)
Lila Cafe (sic?) on Union (old Khorongo space), New American/Locavore.

Pied De Cochon booked for 2010?
PDC's website says they're booked for the 2010 season... I'm heading up to Montreal in October for my bachelor party in October and was hoping to grab a table for a Friday night. Do I have any options? Does the place typically get booked this far in advance?
Drinks & Food near Terminal 5?
I'm going to a concert @ Terminal 5 tonight with some friends and I don't squat about the West upper-50's. Are there any good spots nearby to grab a quick, bite? Ideally a decent liquor menu and cocktail list too (nothing in the colorful/sweet/weak category)... Something in the $20+ pp range (for food) would be ideal.
Thanks!
Good "romantic" splurge downtown?
~150 on food, maybe another 50-75 on wine?
i should also note that my fiance is a pescatarian
Good "romantic" splurge downtown?
I'm taking my fiance out tonight for a celebration of some sorts. I live in Brooklyn, and have therefore been out of the Manhattan dining scene for the past few years so I have no idea whats new and noteworthy. Ideally we're looking for something nice, somewhat cool and tasty where we can have a bottle of wine and a solid meal - and possibly land a day-of reservation for 2 :)
Recommendations are much appreciated! Thanks.
