United Tastes of America
That is another show I really don't like and partly because of the host, Outrageous Food. I liked both Jeffery and Tom on the Next Food Network Star but not on their new shows. I wanted to like them but just can't.
Chains That Are EAsy to Love
Big fan of Chick fil A. Their salads are great. I can't get into their waffle fries but most people love them. The one thing I find is that the drive thru and counter staff are always nice, pleasant and polite. This can't be said for many other chains. I went to McDonalds just for a Coke in the drive thru and had the person taking my order ask me if I was going to order anything to eat. That doesn't happen at Chick fil A.
United Tastes of America
Is it just me or does anyone else find Jeffery annoying? He speaks to the camera as if he is speaking to small children and his enthusiasm seems fake. I like the concept of the show and have found some interesting places that I would love to try but the host is a huge turn off.
Bon Appetit & Paltrow
I couldn't agree more. You express what I was trying to say until my intense dislike for Paltrow got in the way.
Chuck's Day Off
Love Chuck's show. He is rather inventive. I found the potato rissoto unique and actually plan to make it. Chuck is very likeable and does not come across as condescending, what a refreshing twist.
Bon Appetit & Paltrow
This is making me reconsider ever subscribing to the magazine. I was a big fan of Bon Appetit but now not so much. I don't like Gwyenth to begin with but putting her on the cover of a food magazine, give me a break. Very disappointed that they would choose a cover model least of which her.
Pennsylvania Foods
Ham BBQs. We had a potluck at work and our Texas transplant had no idea what they were. It seems to be a PA thing.
Must Eats in PGH
Well since no one seems to be addressing pierogies, I will. The best pierogies I have had were from Pierogies Plus in McKees Rocks. It is takeout only and you could purchase them cold and heat at home. I haven't found a restaurant that has any noteworthy pierogies but I have not tried them at the Bloomfield Bridge Taveran. Several people I know rave about them from there. Hope this helps.

The Turducken has a new challenger ... the "Three Dog Night" [moved from General Topics]
It is not a Christmas option but that would be great for New Year's. It has all the elements for a good luck meal....the pork (kielbassa) and sauerkraut.
Pittsburgh favorites
Lidia's is good. If you go, go on a Sunday that is when they have her Sunday sauce and they serve family style.
If you are looking for Sushi, a place in Mt. Lebanon called Little Toyko. They have great sushi. Also Sushi Too in Shadyside has pretty good Sushi.

Pittsburgh favorites
Well, it depends on the kind of food you are looking for. Breakfast/brunch there is Deluca's in the strip or Cain's in Dormont/Mt Lebanon. Deluca's is famous for their big breakfasts. Cain's had brunch only on the weekend and they have a bloody mary bar. Steak dinner the place to go in my opinion is Pittsburgh Rare at Station Square. I have never had a bad meal there. Tessaro's is another place to try. They are known for their burgers. Hope this helps.

Visiting Pittsburgh on 10/2 and would like recommendation
It's not really a restaurant but there are many food options at the new Public Market in the Strip District. If you say want pierogies, you can try them and then also buy them to take home. Nothing beats homemade pierogies. Roland's in the Strip is very Pittsburgh. Nearly anything in Bloomfield is great. Tessaro's is awesome for burgers. I have also heard that Fathead's on the South Side is really good for burgers and wings. Another uniquely Pittsburgh thing is a pierogie pizza - carb heaven.

Have you ever been surprised by a TV "celebrity" chef?
Every year in Pittsburgh there is a foodie show called Good Taste Pittsburgh. Last year Duff was there. What a jerk. He did nothing but knock the city. I was extremely disappointed in how rude he was. You don't have to rave about our city but at least be gracious.
Pgh Restaurant Closings/Changes
Two new places have opened in the South Hills. In McMurray near Donaldsons Crossroads, Penny's Diner opened. It is run by people related to Tom's Diner. The breakfast was pretty good but the service needs to be improved. However it was their soft opening so I am sure it will. The other place is in Bridgeville on McLaughlin Run Road where the Good Wood used to be. It is the Little Oasis. It is run by the same family that owned the Oasis in Heidelberg and the fish sandwich is really good.
Suggestions on Surviving the Olive Garden? (moved from Manhattan Board)
Hey I would be thrilled with the Olive Garden considering we get a sandwich ring and a shrimp ring.
I would go for soup and salad. It is a safe bet.
Pizza in Vegas
Just tried Anthony's Coal Oven Pizza in Town Square. It was great. Thin pizza and really crispy with just the right amount of char.
Need PA-centric foods for my new book
Ok this isn't something I eat but it is something I see on menus and have relatives that eat - fried jumbo on mancini's bread.
Also how about salt sticks?
Giant Eagle Marketplace - that special?
The Giant Eagle Marketplace is considerably better than a regular Giant Eagle. They have alot more a selection of everything. I can find everything there. Even obscure ingredients. Also they have a huge salad bar and enormous prepared food sections as well as cooking demonstrations. It is absolutely worth the trip.
Pittsburgh Nutrolls
There is a place in McKees Rocks called Joyce's Homemade Cookies. Her cookies are awesome. I believe she also make nut rolls. She has a bunch of immigrant woman working for her - or at least she did. She used so make little nut horn cookies so she may make nut rolls.
Pittsburgh outdoor dining.
Luma in Mt. Lebanon has outdoor dining. The food is good but pricey. Make reservations as they are often quite busy.
Stonepeppers Grill
I have also been there. The pizza was a huge disappointment. It was not a brick oven pizza. I have had better frozen pizza. The two people I was dining with both had salads - the buffalo chicken salad and the filet mignon salad. They both enjoyed the salads. I agree burgers do seem to be their strong point.
Where to go for good steak dinner
I will be visiting Chicago with 2 friends in July and want to splurge and take them for a nice steak dinner. I wanted some recommendations and maybe price ranges. I was figuring $200-$300.
Dinner with small kids Pitts.
I was only kidding with the not getting out much line. I just couldn't resist.
Dinner with small kids Pitts.
Kangaroo's and Dingbat's have been gone for quite sometime. I don't mean to be a smart*** but don't you get out much?
Admit it... There's Some Dishes at Chain Restaurants You Like
Applebees - grilled shrimp and spinach salad
cici's pizza????
Stay away, far far away. It is horrible. The salad bar is a joke. I don't think it can even be called a salad bar. The pizza is awful. Who puts mac n cheese on pizza? I know little children love it but I don't know any adults that do.
Chick-fil-A recommendations
CFA has great nuggets. I actually like (I know this odd) their chicken soup. It is pretty good for a fast food place. The chicken minis with mayo are great with a fruit cup for breakfast. Hey if you don't like their breakfast options you can get nuggets for breakfast.
The Truth About Robert Irvine?
Sorry but Ooze reminds me of a festering wound, not food.
Mexican in Pittsburgh?
I wasn't impressed with Mad Mex either. I didn't really thing MexiCasa in Dormont was really Mexican - they had ribs and wings on the menu (just my opinion). I like El Campesino in McMurray. It is really good and everyone I know that has been there has liked it.
