NOLA dinner help

Sunday night is made for Mandina's, and you'll not be sorry at Boucherie.

Service issues?

The Golden Rule (not a new joint in the Quarter..) almost always serves one well. Look 'em in the eye, greet 'em, be a human enjoying other humans. And what's the point to being demanding?
HH, the easier one is to wait on, the liklier one'll receive good service, no ?

Sources for andouille?

Why no love for Creole Country Sausage on David St. in mid-town ? Andouille, chaurice, boudin, and one of the few headcheeses that sit well w/ me. Last I checked, they were also in Langensteins. (sp?).

Best Cajun Restaurant in New Orleans?

Also not sure what contemp. Cajun might mean, but ALL the meals/cocktails we've had @ Toups' have been entirely satisfying....without exception.

Hot Sauce

That'd be sad. Thanks for the info.

Hot Sauce

If the sauces are from 'all over', pick up any of Marie Sharp's (Belizian) hot sauces. The mash is carrot-based, the peppers are from Belize, and the flavor is singular. Given capsaicin extract, anyone can do heat; it's flavor that's most important. There are none better, IMO.

Thanksgiving week here we come!

Haven't been to We've Got Soul, but have had several REAL good trips to Toup's. Booty's is bound to please (cocktails there are super).

One More Good Sandwich

Check out Tartine (Leake & Perrier). The Nicoise is one-off, and other options are always top-notch.

June visit for fifth anniversary... So excited!

Visited SoBou earlier this month-nothing untoward, but nothing to write home about, either. Boucherie has NEVER disappointed and is eagerly anticipated every time. Had a fully enjoyable meal/drinks @ Toup's Meatery, and liked Booty's Street food well enuf to visit twice.

Help! Taking the boss out for dinner and drinks in New Orleans

We were recently at a Mano, and couldn't've been more pleased--service, quality of preparation and presentation, wine selections----all winners.

or try Sal's on Barataria Blvd. on the west bank. Have them dump several pounds (and some sides--you need your vegetables) on the table.

Rio Mar?

Went last week, and have eaten there (sporadically) for years. Menu is little changed, quality and service left nil to be desired. They were patient w/ our pace (tho' we were there early-ish), and any changes were fully benign.

Quick, Easy and good Between NO Airport and I 10?

Williams Blvd. has lotsa good offerings, and given your criteria, Harbour is the choice.

Thanks for taking time to report. Think about Green Goddess next time------and you'll not be disappointed by Dante's, either

Ted's Frostop(s) near Tulane??

This is one of the stranger re-animated zombie threads in a while....I'll be in that neighborhood next month, and'll give it a go. Report to follow.

Going to New Orleans for our 1st wedding anniversary

it is NOT too late to cancel.....unless mediocre food in a 'quite nice' garden is your aim.

Follow up after help from Chowhound asking for NOLA recs

Thanks for the post/llink, I'd been waiting to hear from you. Glad you feel the goodness of the Green Goddess....and Surrey's ! Well done. It's been noted that Eliz.'s praline bacon is truly the crack of (breakfast) foods. Just so. Come back.

I'd pay special attetion to HC's recommendations, as there're v.few more serious students of bread. 'Nuff said.

LA Hound returning for annual visit, advice sought.

Couldn't agree more. Additionally, Chris's selection of and recommendations for some super wines is a big plus. Good selection of Adriatic wines, a chef who really responds to those who're interested in his work/tastes/likes and very capable mixers of some imaginative you begin to sense my enthusiasm ?

Love food - seeking out low key 'local' favourites

For an off-the-beaten-path coffee shop that is as welcoming as your neighbo(u)r's kitchen, try First Cup Cafe just (1 1/2 blocks) lakeside (think 'north') of Claiborne Ave. on Calhoun St. Put your well-being into Mo's hands and all will be well.

Hide your BBQ shrimp! Kukubura's coming back to town!

With no disrespect to Dante's (which we've enjoyed every time we've been), I think GG would be the way to go; outside-the-norm drinks, dishes and wines. Hardly the most glamorous of settings, but time spent talking w/ Chef Chris can lead to some one-off treats. Best news is that you win whichever you choose
