Hotel deLuxe or Hotel Lucia in Portland?

Thanks so much for the response, it can be kind of a toss up but we were able to get a lower nightly rate with a bigger room!!!! Can"t beat that so I'm thrilled. Sometimes it just works out that way...

Sample pdx dining schedule - thoughts?

Are the food carts on SW 10th and Alder around on Monday? If not is there another "street food" area we can go to for lunch before we head back to SEA?

Sample pdx dining schedule - thoughts?

Oops I did it again - keep mixing up Seattle and PDX legs of trip. We're staying at Hotel DeLuxe in PDX. Anyone been? Good hotel bar?

Sample pdx dining schedule - thoughts?

Good idea scrapping the extra driving and just going to Oregon wines on bway. Really just want to sample as much of the region as I can and if it's not going to be a must do experience, We'd much rather not drive and waste a moment of our stay there. Thanks about the restaurants. I did make a resy at both Sel Gris and Le Pigeon. About what time does the bar scene at Toro Bravo wrap up on Sun? Is there an alternative drink spot either in the area or near Hotel 1000 where we are staying? Also any in the area after dinner at Sel Gris cocktail rec's for Sat night? Nothing disgustingly crowded, we're into more of a chill vibe.

Ok we'll play it by ear, Thanks for the Pix rec if we can't handle Sel Gris, we'll head over there... Do you think Sel Gris is not to be missed though? we could also try to eat a bit on the lighter side..

Oops sorry for my last post, I thought we were talking about the seattle leg of our trip. I'm all mixed up... Thanks for all of the advice, I would love to check out the food carts and will report back with my accomplishments.. Going 1st week of June. Is wine country/beach traffic typically bad then?

Sample pdx dining schedule - thoughts?

Wow, we would LOVE to experience the food cart scene, however will only be in Seattle from Wed night to Sat. morning. Are they around during the week? Actually flying into SEA on Sun morning and driving directly to Vancouver for a few days. Would it be a huge detour to drive through Seattle on the way to Vancouver and stop by the food carts for lunch when we land? Let me know!

How is Andina in Portland?

Thanks a lot- looking forward to the challenge...

So I think we've finally decided on our pdx dining schedule. We only have 2 days there so we're going for it!! Let me know what you think..

Sat: Pok Pok at 5pm and then Sel Gris at 10pm (I figure we can treat Pok Pok as a late lunch)
Sun: Brunch at Screen Door, head to Ponzi Wine Bar for an afternoon of local tastings, then Le Pigeon for a "late lunch" again at 5:30p, then Toro Bravo for a late dinner and drinks at around 10pm.

Might sound like a lot but I think we can handle it...- can't wait!

Mangosteens!

Taking a trip to pdx and seattle at the beginning of june. Would LOVE to get my hands on some fresh mangosteens. Can you tell me where Dong Hing market is? I'm not even clear which city it's in from the posts so far. Thanks so much!

How is Andina in Portland?

I recently heard great things about the peruvian restaurant Andina in Portland. Just looking for more feedback. I'm going to be in Portland for only 2 nts and want to choose my dinner spots wisely. Pok Pok is a definite for 1 nt. Other possibilities include Higgins, Cafe Mingo and Jakes Crawfish House. Any thoughts?

Hotel deLuxe or Hotel Lucia in Portland?

Prefer younger crowd, good bar, spacious rooms. Please help - thanks!

Hotel Max or Hotel 1000 in Seattle?

Please help me decide between the 2. We are a couple in our late-20's, early 30's. Def want something hip and well designed with a cool hotel bar. Location also important. Thanks!

Need Seattle and Portland rec's PLEASE!

thanks so much, your rec's seem right up our alley. Can't wait!

Need Seattle and Portland rec's PLEASE!

Thanks so much. Any ideas for Portland?

Need Seattle and Portland rec's PLEASE!

My boyfriend and I are spending 3 nights in Seattle and 1-2 nights in Portland 1st week of june. We would really appreciate recommendations for some memorable dining experiences. He is a chef in NYC so we would be most interested in innovative chefs/restaurant concepts, cool chill ambience, local seasonal menu, etc. We also welcome local neighborhood favorites loved for just about anything (we love dives, no need for dessert spots). We prefer to stay away from anything resembling a tourist trap by the way. Also need cool drink spots.

peking duck in NYC

I remember it being the whole duck. I believe you can always request the skin be served the way you would like.

Best Pastrami Sandwich

Another vote for Katz's. I don't think the others even compare. I always take it very seriously =) when they give you the sample of the piece they're cutting from. I have actually asked them to switch it out for one with more or less fat content and they never seem to mind. Some of them look like crap. If you're going to indulge, do it right and get exactly what you want.

Top 5 Chicken Wings (IMHO)

Lately I've been really into wings that have been smoked before they are fried and sauced. My vote is Blue Smoke, Dinosaur and RUB.

peking duck in NYC

I've had peking duck all over Chinatown and I recall having the best peking duck in the city at Chinatown Brasserie on Lafayette and Great Jones. Let me state that I don't think I liked anything else about the restaurant but the duck was perfect. Very crispy skin, not overly greasy or fatty and the pancakes were light and fluffy. I would go and just order that. Also, it's not that expensive at $48. Peking duck house in Chinatown sells theirs for $40 and it sucks.

Taking a trip to the Woodstock/Saugerties

Thanks. I had brunch once at marions and it was great. It's at the woodstock lodge I think. I've heard about miss lucys but may just play it safe with new world. what's the ambience like? I'm sure it's not stuffy which is great but is it nice enough for a birthday dinner or more of a lunch spot?

best indian restaurant?

I'm a huge Devi fan

Taking a trip to the Woodstock/Saugerties

Taking a trip to the Wookstock/Saugerties area in a couple of weeks for my boyfriend's birthday and looking for the best restaurant possible. We've been to the Bear Cafe and The Red Onion already and enjoyed both but wondering about alternatives. Also loved Peekamoose but it's a bit of a drive from where we're staying. How does the New World cafe compare to them or does anyone have another recommendation the area? We are traveling with another couple and the girl is a vegetarian.

Seeking best eggplant parmigiana in NYC- preferably on the Upper East Side

great eggplant parm at Il Vagabondo on 62nd st bet. 1st and 2nd aves. I grew up around the corner and have frequented this "old school italian" restaurant my entire life. They also have a baci court in the restaurant which is always fun.
