Can you recommen a good Bar/Restraunt Area within 20 minutes of Newark Airport

Ironbound is your best bet. Some really great food can be had there (Seabras for example), many bars with local atmosphere. Importantly it is a safe area (the rest of Newark STAY AWAY!)

Elizabeth...no way, not many decent places and too dangerous for me

Hoboken has many bars...many, many bars close together...a younger "hip" crowd and quite safe

Frog and the Peach behaving badly.

Had a couple bad experiences at the F&P . I was polite but management really did not care.

Not a good attitude to have especially in these rough economic times. Used to go their for personal visits and for business dinners. No more.

They bought themselves some negative advertisement from me....I tell everyone to stay away....there are better places in NB to dine where you don't gett attitude from the staff.

Cape May Suggestions

Thanks all for the helpful suggestions!

Cape May Suggestions

We will be spending a night in Capr May next week. My wife and I enjoy "fine dining", so looking for a place that has a good menu, great wine list and preferably a nice bar.

"American", French, seafood are preferred....no Asian (chinese, Thai, Indian)

Any suggestions for a restaurant?

Any suggestions for a B&B?

PORK HELP PLEASE!

Agree that it sounds like your thermometer is a bit off

That said the days of overcooked pork should be over! Pork can easily be served at ~160F with no worries, anything higher and you will experience tough dried out meat. Even a bit lower than 160F is OK

As long as the meat is cooked through, that is no "pink" you should be fine...if still red/pink then you need more cooking time (actually a little pink is fine as well. The days of trichinosis are gone

I have slow cooked a roast that size for 6 hours or so at 225 and all was well.

Enjoy

Sirena Nightmare

WOW!!! What a nightmare.

Went to Sirena when it first opened, had a pretty good experience but service was poor at best....never returned

I cannot belive that a manager would bring out a now what I assume barely warm and tired steak and argue with a customer!

Thanks for th epost

Heirloom Tomato Seedlings?

I got 180 plants in my basement...ya want some?

Due Mari vs. SOHO

Both are very good

I give the nod to Due Mari and Chef Alex

-----
Due Mari
78-80 Albany Street, New Brunswick, NJ 08901

Tauros, Tapas Grill Rahway NJ

Never heard of it...where is it?

New Brunswick

First...how or why would one go back and post to a thread that is 7 years old?

Anyway...SoHo is one of our go to places in NB. Reasonably priced (though not LARGE) wine list...excellent service, friendly atmosphere

Had been to the Frog many times but had a really bad experience there....too many other places to spend my money

BJ's cakes? [moved from NJ]

For a kids party or similar event (graduations etc.) they are just fine...taste pretty good and are inexpensive

If you are having a more elegant affair, maybe not

Good corned beef sandwich in Central New Jersey

YEs the Linden place is still there but rather dirty

Deli King in CLark is much better

Best Restaurant in New Brunswick Area for Business Meeting (10-15 people)

Due Mari is very good...the chef there, Alex had a stint at David Drakes and he is quite good and accomodating

Not sure if they have a private room though, cannot recall.

Best Restaurant in New Brunswick Area for Business Meeting (10-15 people)

Stage Left has the wine library...nice food in a nice setting...you could start upstairs at Catherine Lombardi's for cocktails, then go downstairs to dine.

Daryl Wine Bar has a private room that can accomodate that sized group, it would be a good choice as well

Steakhouse 85, classic steakhouse restaurant would be yet another fine choice.

I would suggest any of these

Personally I would never return to the Frog having experienced a horrible and downright rude experience there some time ago. They did not seem to care at all....oh well they lose my business and an recommendations from me.

Spanish in Newark

Casa Vasca still excellent

We like Don Pepe's as well

Have heard mixed reviews on the others

Boulevard 572, Kenilworth

Last Friday the wife and I decide to give this restaurant a try after hearing some good reviews.
We were very pleasantly surprised!

The restaurant has a very warm, cozy lounge/bar area. Nice bar, some tall tables and a few "couches". A very nice place to have a glass of wine on a cold winter evening before dinner. Bar had a full compliment of liquors( including my favorite Double Cross vodka with blue cheese stuffed olives!)) as well as a well rounded list of wines by the glass.

We were seated in the "Wine Room". While the menu had a number of good offerings and there were some specials, we decided to go with the chef's tasting menu. $75 for four courses with wines...a great value

We were started with a crab "amuse bouche" which was more sized like an appetizer than an "amuse bouche" along with a champagne cocktail. Crab was flavoful and fresh, served with mango and other citrus fruits. Along with the champagne a great light way to start the meal.

I chose the seared foie gras with a fig compote for my second course. Foie gras was perfectly cooked however not sure what they did because the inside was stone cold..it was nonetheless a good dish. Wife had pumpkin ravoli with chantarelles and marscapone froth...really good! WIne pairings for both were spot on.

Main course for me was the red snapper..perfectly prepared nice sized portion of very fresh and flavorful snapper. Wife had the filet mignon with blue cheese...again appropriate sized portion perfectly cooked.

For dessert, my wife had the macerated berries with sorbet...fresh berries with refreshing sorbet, great way to end a meal. I had a chocolate caramel tart with just a touch of salt...I am not a dessert person but would definatly order this again.

We were both very impressed with the service. Attentive but not intrusive, well polished, took time to explain dishes when asked, had the wine served BEFORE the food which is (in my opinion) the way to serve so the diner can taste and enjoy the wine without the food then enjoy with the food. (OK I admit a pet peeve of mine with tasting menus...I do not like when the wine comes after the food has arrived)

Bottom line...the reviews were correct. "Everyday gourmet" is a good moniker for this restaurant. The menu is varied and affordably priced...this is not a once a year special occasion snobby restaurant, but one with well prepared fare and a welcoming atmosphere...one that we will continue to frequent.

Restaurant David Drake - What's Up?

Restaurant David Drake in Rahway is closed. Sign in window says it may reopen in spring at a new location. Maybe ther ewill be a Bistro Drake in the future

The steakhouse in Berkely Hieghts, "David Drake Prime" is not being built as the hotel is not being built

David Drake is no longer affiliated with Daryl Wine Bar in NB

Drake is at Alice's in Lake Hopatcong

Tough times for high end dining in NJ

Good Butcher in Middlesex County, NJ

JOHN'S Meat MArket is in Scot Plains

They sell prime beef and veal. Excellent pork from a farm in PA. I get a couple pigs from them every year for roasting...either large one's for outside or suckling for inside

They sell a lot of stuff from D'Artagnan as well...or you can purchase directly from D'Artagnan yourself...free range poultry, game birds, rabbit as well as sausages

are all good choices

AVOID
Frog and the Peach
Christophers
Catherine Lombardi

huge dutch oven? what do you cook in for a crowd?

various stews
chili
jambalaya

Stage Left. Exit.

I am guessing that the Raven and Peach is the Frog and the Peach?

I agree that the Frog is a destination not worthy due primarily to the arrogant staff (at least my lst visit)

ith regard to Stage Left....while it may not be on th e"top" of my list, it is certainly not worthy of your critique

Then again this is just my opinion and my dollars that i choose to spend

Is it possible to remove teflon?

DO NOT PLACE THE PAN IN THE OVEN DURING THE SELF CLEANING CYCLE

This WILL create toxic fumes in your home

The suggestion to return to All Clad is the one that makes the most sense to me....otherwise it seems the pan perfroms just fine, you just do not like the perception that it is "greasy" Teflon is slippery...the pan will feel that way

Pans that can take the HEAT

As others have stated...cast iron can take any heat you can put on it.

Commercial kitchens use simple "commercial" grade aluminium...I have taken to purchasing cookware from a commercial restaurant supply house....the heavy aluminium pans work great.

As for non-stick...I think I have one pan left hanging in my rack...can't remeber the last time I used it. The idea of high heat and non-stick are incompatible...non-stick does not cook like a regular cast iron/aluminium/stainless stell/copper pan would.

The "toxicity" of teflon pans are only an issue if the coating is worn/scratched/chipped and you are heating in excess of 500 degrees...must of the issue of teflon coated pans is overblown. I don't use them simply because I don't like the way they cook.

A well seasoned cast iron pan or enamel coated cast iron (i.e. Le Cruset) will do the job quite well

Your "pro-style" range: Would you spend the money again?

>>There are sometimes issues with the igniters "clicking," which can be annoying but it usually subsides after about 30 seconds; it seems to correlate with when burner components are removed for cleaning, if there is water or air that remains.<<

Yes that happens...after I clean I simply crank on all the burners full tilt for a couple minute to dry everything out and then no woriires.

I have a Viking Pro series, 6 burner all gas range...works great...love that all six burners are the same

Advice - Overhead range hood

I would agree that the 350cfm is not adequate. You want something larger to pull the odors out of the house (a larger range, like my Viking, you want to pull the heat out as well)

Our hood is 900cfm and I can sear scallops without stinking up the house. Does it make noise...yes some but i actually more quiet than the useless one we had before (one that as integral to the microwave above the cooktop)

Ikea kitchen Cabinets?

I just looked online, the ratings don't seem to be there any longer. Last I looked was about 2 yrs ago

They do have ratings for countertops though

Ikea kitchen Cabinets?

We purchased the full wood built maple cabinets....no chipboard, all plywood. All the drawers have full extension and auto close.

Did not get any Harmony storage stuff.....just a simple pantry with shelves.

I was very, very impressed with the construction of the cabinets....very well put together, perfectly square....really a quality product

After 2 years of use they still look brand new. I thnk you will be pleased

Luciano's Rahway Review

Elora:
Nice review and could not agree more. Luciano's has turned into one of our favorite restaurants.

The food is very very good...the Beef Carpaccio appetizer is one of the best I have had....and yes the scallop preparation is a winner.

When we dine the bill for two is usually about $125...apps, entrees, drinks etc....considering the quality of food, lovely atmosphere and level of service this is quite a bargain.

Perhaps we will see you there one evening??

Ikea kitchen Cabinets?

FWIW...Consumer Reports gives IKEA a top rating
