Nihonbashi in June

Thank you Robb S. I checked out Mondo and it looks quite good especially their kaisen don. Lots of varieties too. Will certainly try this place.

Wow, it looks like lots of great ideas and eating places - thank you Smoothiemeister. I have a feeling that Sembikiya is good place to window shop without buying. I will check out the Mandarin Oiental Hotel bar - sounds nice. Marusan Yokocho for Marunouchi 3-chome? I'm not familiar but will go looking for it. I like yakitori, but not horumon yakitori.

Thanks!

Best sake brewery tour near tokyo?

Yes, I agree with irukaunyu. Sawanoi is very nice. I'm not sure about English speaking tour, but we did attend the Japanese presentation and taste testing along with a tour.

Nihonbashi in June

Will be staying the first 2 nights in Nihonbashi before going to Hokkaido for a week and returning to my familiar area near Meguro. This will be in late June. I'm looking for any recommendations in Nihonbashi area. It can be any type of food. I am not familiar with Nihonbashi. Thanks!

Beppu or Nagasaki for 1 Day

BTW, how does one get to Takefue? It seems very isolated Do they come and pick you up at a train station?

Beppu or Nagasaki for 1 Day

Wonderful recommendations, thank you. I would love to try the chanwanmushi you menioned. I normally love chawanmushi but since you normally find them bland, this particular one must be excellent. I checked out Ginnabe - wow, kabocha tofu - that's different. I've had walnut, peanut, sesame, green soy tofu, but not kabocha tofu. I would love to try the restaurant.

I did see the toruko rice - very different. I suppose much like taco rice in Okinawa. And castella......mmmm.

Beppu or Nagasaki for 1 Day

I have to choose between Beppu or Nagasaki for one of the ports. I've not been to Kyushu and it is a place I would like to explore more at a later time, but for now I need to decide between two ports. Which location would be better for good food?

Frozen maguro

I buy individually quick frozen fish directly from Alaska esp halibut, salmon, black cod, cod, and ling cod - all excellent when I receive them in California. This is in response to Alan408.

Ramen versus chuka soba ya

Thank you. I made note of these two places for me to try when in Tokyo. I do like the new style ramen but I sure miss old Tokyo style ramen.

Ramen versus chuka soba ya

I miss simple Tokyo style chuka soba/ramen of old days. What I'm finding is mostly very highly seasoned (kotteri) soup stock that is ok sometimes, but not what I am searching. Even here in the Bay Area there are some decent ramen places but mostly their stocks are again too strong tasting with sesame, miso, katsuo, peppers, tobandjan, etc.

I went to several places in Tokyo area but I found the soup in those places highly seasoned as well. It is possible the ramen/chuka soba I'm searching for only really exist in my memory and never were that great. I asked my cousin in Japan about this and he said it can be found if I look for chuka soba instead of ramen.

Do any of you know of good chuka soba places that serve the old style Tokyo ramen?

Bone in chuck roast in Mountain View/Sunnyvale/Palo Alto/Los Altos?

Where can I find bone in chuck roast in MV, Svl, PA, or Los Altos areas? I used to be able to purchase at even Safeway, but no longer. Most of the meat sold is boneless. Please help?

Kinmedai

I'm looking for fresh or frozen kinmedai or golden eyed sea bream in the Bay Area. Not for making sushi but for preparing it as kasuzuke (sake lees marinade). Any ideas? If not available locally, any internet source would be great. Thanks.

Trader Joe's low fat Greek Yogurt

I tried the low fat version and did not like it at all. No creaminess and also found it to be too grainy for my taste. I'll stick with the full fat version.

Where to purchase tonic water and club soda in Tokyo

Thank you all for the information. We will be in Tokyo in several days again and the last time there, I just could not locate the stuff. Yes, both Rakuten and Amazon sell them but since I am only visiting for about a month that would be a problem.

Will check all the places you all mentioned. Much appreciated!

Online Kurobuta Purchase

Can you recommend any online sites for purchasing kurobuta pork? I can purchase some cuts at Nijiya Japanese Market here in Bay Area CA, but not all cuts of kurobuta pork. I would like to purchase pork chops and solid loin meat. Thanks!
