Big in Japan

Is there a copy of their menu anywhere on the internet? Thanks in advance.

What does Montreal have to offer? June 30 - July 3

Since I'm in town similar days I too would like any advice from locals as to what's new and chow-worthy. Right now we've got Joe Beef and Au Pied du Cochon reservations but are open to anything. What about Big in Japan? Does anyone know their hours as I can't find a website.

Whatsgood, enjoy your trip and we'll see you at Au Pied du Cochon ;)

West Bridge - Kendall Square

I was there Friday and really enjoyed the calamari (however I wish I had some bread to soak up the broth). Thought it was an interesting presentation and the flavors were outstanding. While there I also had the radish toasts, pigs head, cauliflower and sweetbreads and thoroughly enjoyed everything. Thought the room and service were outanding too.

2012 Oyster Fest, June 2nd & 3rd

Just found out that I will be town for the Oyster Festival and was hoping to get some input. Is it a good time? The website makes it sound like two great days of food and music. Is there an admission charge? Do you buy food/drink tickets? If so, are they cash or can you use a credit card? Do they have ATM's nearby (I see that it takes place in a park by the river)? Thanks in advance for any input.

Shake Shack Coming to Chestnut Hill

Second, the chicago style hot dogs!

Park Cambridge

Stopped in on Sunday after Mayfair and sat at the bar for some snacks and drinks. Don't recall exactly what Redline looked like but I know it looked nothing like it does now. Very clubby: leather chairs, couches, soft features, very cool ceilings. For food we got the clam chowder, salt & pepper shrimp and the confit chicken wings. Chowder had good flavor while the salt and pepper shrimp were also good but were not like salt and pepper offerings you would find in Chinatown. The wings stood out: nice heat but not too crazy and oustanding meat. Also, caught a glimpse of the patty melt across the bar which looked really good as well. For drinks I tried a cherry/honey/apple cider from Michigan which was light and delicious. The beer list is pretty extensive and has some other offerings which sadly I don't recall either but I remember them being new to me.

Service was professional and friendly. I look forward to going back to have a proper meal.

Yeah, not a fan. Hope he rethinks this.

please share your recommendations for Negril, Jamaica

So we got back over the weekend and had a great time.

We stayed at the Club Hotel RIU Negril (there are two RIU resorts in Negril, this is the smaller of the two) which is all inclusive. On the property there are buffets available for breakfast, lunch and dinner. At various times we ate at the buffets and they were better than I expected. They had your typical dumb-downed touristy fare but they also provided some local cusine at every meal (beef patties, curried goat, ackee and salt fish). For lunch there was a gentleman grilling up jerk chicken on the beach which was outstanding and our go-to spot for lunch daily (12-3 or until he runs out). On the property there are three reservation required restaruants: a steak house, a brazillian bbq and a "gourmet" spot. As we arrived late on a Sunday the earliest we could make reservations was on Monday morning at 8 am. Arrivng at 9 I was told that everything was sold out for Monday and Tuesday so I made reservations for the gourmet place for Wednesday evening (we ended up cancelling our reservation for the steak house on Thursday). While the food at the gourmet restaurant was not bad it was not worth the time either and we all were disappointed. The red snapper I had was tasty but a bit overcooked.

The alcohol selection at the RIU consists of Red Stripe beer, J Lohr wine, M&R vermouths, Campari, Appelton rums and Fernet Branca(!!). The rest of the offerings are your generic well selections.

On the advice of our taxi driver we had dinner at Kuyaba which was outdoor dining near the beach and had an outstanding meal. For apps we had the lentil dip, the conch bits (fried), the sauteed conch, and jerk chicken. For my main course I had the crab cakes which were good and had good amount of crab in each. My SO had the conch stew which was in a brown rich sauce that had a good amount of scotch bonnet peppers. Service was friendly however there was a lag between apps and mains and the place was on the slow side. One other note: there were many local stray cats that would wander around the dining room area. While our group didn't mind them others might.

One other evening we made the pilgrimage to Rick's Cafe to watch the sunset. The food was mostly regretable. We had the beef patties (dry and flavorless), sheddy shrimp (fried shrimp with cocktail sauce), jerk chicken skewers (best tasting item but chicken was dry and overcooked), the jerk pork taco and the fish taco both were underwelming. Sunset and cliff jumpers was great and drinks were reasonable for what they could be charging. Service was also very friendly and professional.

Our other night off the resort we went to Sweet Spice on the recommendations of our driver and had a great meal. We had a bit of everything between the four of us: jerk chicken, conch, curried goat. For my main course I enjoyed the spicy lobster which wasn't hot but had nice flavor. To drink I had a Ting soda as this restaurant is alcohol free. Please take care if you plan on paying by CC: all the prices are in Jamaican dollars but they convert it to USD for MC/Visa and the exchange rate they gave us did not seem to be the best. Otherwise a very good local restaruant.

Overall, a very good trip and I would recommend the RIU for the Fernet alone. :)

staff meal food truck

They posted on their twitter yesterday that they ran out and would be shutting down. They're usually pretty good about posting on FB and twitter when they run out of food for the day.

Note to restaurateurs: good decafe = four stars!

Heading out next week and just wanted to bump this up to see if anyone else could comment.

Awesome pizza at non-Italian, non-pizza places

Had the cotechino pizza at the bar at Russell House Tavern last night and as usual it was great: good sausage & ricotta and a nice crisp crust. What other places have a good pizza that wouldn't fall into the usual pizza place or Italian restaruant? I also really enjoy the pepperoni pizza with the everything crust (like the bagel) at Local 149 in South Boston.

Communal Tables in Boston?

Local 149 in South Boston has a communal table at the front of the restaurant.

Buying six bottles at once- what would you get?

How about Laird's Applejack?

Need a dive bar with really good food in Downtown Boston

Your post is a bit confusing (dive bar vs good food for that part of town). That said, how about Silvertone, JM Curley's, JJ Foley's, Kingston Station, the Good Life?

Restaurant Week Boston, Winter 2012 reports?

I too hit up Oceanaire for a RW lunch and really enjoyed it. Didn't make it to Lock-Ober this time around but glad to hear that it was still on point.

April 2012 Openings & Closings

Looks like the the Other Side is closing for real at the end of the month.

Del Friscos/RW

Also went for lunch yesterday for my first visit. Agree that the view would be the main reason to visit this steakhouse as opposed to others around the city. Also noticed that they do the RW-type lunch all the time and that might get me back a bit more often. For my first course I had the gumbo which was pretty tasty.

First Impressions: Lone Star Taco Bar

Had dinner there Sunday night for the first time. Nachos were good and enjoyed the tacos (brisket, carnitas, fish) as well. Surprisingly I found the one tortilla to be enough.

The annual springtime Speed's thread

The brick & mortar restaurant fell threw but I read somewhere (eater, grubstreet?) that with the new location by government center that there may be additional trucks. Not sure if that was a liberal interpretation by the website or backed up with facts but it sure would be nice if there was a fleet of Speed's trucks.

When is a Banh Mi not a Banh Mi?

The Boston chowhound board is not friendly to non-traditional Banh Mi as I learned a couple years ago. :)

Sotol (Mexican spirit) - Available in Boston area liquor stores?

Has anyone seen Sotol for sale around Boston? Enjoyed it at Mayahuel in New York and would like to pick up a bottle or two. For that matter, if anyone knows any bars that carry it too that would be helpful. Thanks

Where to get different types of lobster dishes

On the brunch menu at Sam's they have lobster with green chili grits and a pan sherry sauce which is outstanding.

I'm also heading down to Negril in April and would appreciate hearing about your trip Gastriquex2. We're staying at the RIU Negril if that helps at all. Thanks to Aewils as well.

Seriously, what does Highland Kitchen put in their pancakes? [moved from Boston]

Just wanted to say that I completely agree.
