I-87 from NYC to Lake George

I like to stop at exit 19, Kingston. when you get off the exit it is on the south bound side of the thruway you will see a sign that says "steak" it is a part of the hotel there. I do not know the name of the place but I stop there for a good steak house burger and fries. I have had several meals there and cant say that any were ever bad. Its a good place to break up the trip and have a decent meal.

press 195 RVC

I have tried the food at Press 195 only 2 times once some one brought me a sandwich (take out) for a late lunch which was a meat loaf sandwich. It was OK/good but would not order it with all of the choices they have there. Second time a friend and I sat down for dinner. I asked the waitress as I always do, "if you were having dinner right now what on the menu would you order?" I believe her name was Anna if I'm not mistaken, she recommended 2 different sandwiches that were right on the money. We liked the fact that most of the beers were from local breweries and went with the waitresses recommendation again and tried 2 different local beers. The fries were excellent, was not crazy about being charged $.75 per sauce to dip but it is what it is. Two of the owners came around at different times during our visit and spoke with us. Thought it was a nice touch. I believe Brian who posted above was one. It was a very pleasurable experience and will go back again.
As far comparing La Bottega and Press 195, I feel they are both good in there own right, would much rather visit Press 195 again. There atmosphere and staff make a big difference.

Lunch spot along I-87

Exit 19 Kingston on I-87. You can see it from the highway. There is a hotel and it has a sign over it that just says STEAK. I do not remember the actual name of the place but the food is always good there. I stop there when ever Im traveling threw. Good burgers and good meals. It is inside the hotel.

Nassau - Mexican - Need some new places

Try Mangoes in Bethpage near Central Ave. Not sure of actual address. have heard good things about the place have not been there yet myself but intend to soon.

Favorite Long Island Restaurants

Smokin Als in Bayshore was very good both times I was there. Smokin Als in Massapequa has gone from so so to awful. The 3 times I have eaten there (because it is closer to me then bayshore) the last time, last week was the final time! We ordered sandwiches & sides to go. Could not tell the difference between the pork and the chicken, 5 of us that is. The brisket was just awful. The only thing good was the corn bread. The worst mac & cheese ever!

Butcher in Nassau County, LI?

Pellegrino Meats in Floral Park gets a second here! Use them all the time. It is on Covert Ave just North of Tulip ave.

BADBOB's Barbeque Restaurant Oceanside

Dont waste your time or money! It was the worst meal I ever had!!! Raw chicken and boiled brisket. Yes boiled! Returned everything!

Freedom BBQ in Island Park

A follow up to The Island Smokehouse. A friend and I stopped in for dinner tonight. We had a good dinner at a reasonable price. Over all experience was good and would go back again. We ordered a sampler platter that came with beef brisket, pulled pork and chicken and 2 sides, we chose mac and cheese and beans. All the meats had a good texture and were juicy. They were hickory & apple smoked. They were a little to saucey for my taste as I prefer them unsauced and like to add my own. They had 3 different style bbq sauces to try which were all good. The mac and cheese was super cheesey and the beans were a smoked red kidney bean without sauce that were very different, good but different. They also served biskets with maple butter that was delicious. This place has now been open about 4 weeks and they are still try'in to get there feet off the ground, if they are coming out of the box good this early in the game I only see it getting better for them and us as they keep going. I would say over all that they are worth taking the trip and giving them a try. They are in Island Park on Austin Blvd. Open 7 days a week.

Nassau County Farmers Markets

Good Morning - just came back from the Lynbrook Farmers Market. It was opening day. They do have a seafood vendor set up there. There was a farm stand with different lettuces, a few radishes, some herbs and fresh Long Island Strawberries. A pickle vendor (the sweet cajun pickles are excellent). A home made soap vendor, a granola vendor and a seafood vendor.

Freedom BBQ in Island Park

Freedom BBQ is no longer... It has re-open under new owner and new chefs and pitmaster as Island Smoke House. It has only been opened 2 weeks now. I have been in there but have not had the chance to eat yet. A friend of mine was in there tonight and said he had the brisket and the pork which he says was very good his wife had the baby back ribs to which she says they were also good but a little on the dry side. He also said they have a good menu and that they were very pleased at the over all expirience. Im going to try to get there sometime this week and will post afterward.

Rockville Centre Recs

Recommendation for Pizza is Paradisio in RVC in the Better Homes lot, Bagels - 24 Hour Bagel Cafe on Long Beach Rd in Oceanside in the Trader Joe's lot - Seafood - Artie's Seafood or it maybe called South Shore Seafood on Austin Blvd in Island Park. Enjoy

LI Wedding Halls - What is a Foodie to do?

Several people have asked what part of Long Island and the poster has not replied. I'll throw in my 2 cents anyway. Last night I was at Windows on the Lake, in Ronkonkoma. The place was nice and the food was good. It was better then most catering halls I've been to. Had a good prime rib and the people that had the chicken said it was also good. The Chef did a nice job on the penne' ala vodka too. Prices were reasonable.

Shackletons Franklin Square??????

I've been to Shackletons in Franklin Square. It is a bar/restaurant good food, good service. Try the bacon wrapped shrimp and the baked clams to start. I've eaten there several times and have never had a bad meal.

BEST PIZZA ON LONG ISLAND

After reading all the hype about Umbertos in New Hyde Park I desided to go there tonight and try there pizza. (I always associated it with King Umberto in Elmont which I think is awful pizza and food. I can not understand why people rave about it!) I walked in around 8pm on a Tuesday and the place was packed. I waited on line to order 2 regular, 2 sicilian, and 1 grandma. Mentioned to the young man behind the counter that it was my first visit here and wanted to try each slice to see what everyone has been talking about for years. He looked at me funny and said, "This is your first time here!? Then you'd better try one of these margarita slices too," and tossed one in the box. He then said, "we'll be seeing you again, real soon."
Well I just tried the regular slice and it is perfect! Crispy crust, nice sauce, great flavor. I also just had the sicilian and that too was amazing! Again crispy crust, doughy center, good sauce and great taste. If pizza was a cake I'd want it to taste like that! Can't wait until tomorrow still got 4 slices to go... well maybe 3, dont think the other sicilian slice is gonna make it threw the night!
Definiately will be returning there for more pizza. 5 stars! a must try!!! I also hear the food is excellent.

Freedom BBQ in Island Park

Went by Freedom BBQ after last post, it is closed down already!

Freedom BBQ in Island Park

I have not tried Freedom BBQ yet. I see a lot of talk about Bad Bobs on Lawson in Oceanside. Bad is exactly what it is!!! Dont even know where to begin. Got a nickle tour of the kitchen from the owner/manager who I knew. Was not thrilled with the appearance of the kitchen or the equipment they were using. He kept explaining to me how it was cheaper to buy this product instead of that and how much he was saving by buy this instead of that which had me wondering if he is willing to cut corners on the little things, what is he doing with the important things, like the cooking, prepping, cleaning,etc... After spending about 45mins to and hour talking BBQ seeing his knowledge was so so I still ordered a few items to go. I asked for a recomendation and was told the BBQ Balongea (spelling?) Which was ok, a fried piece of oscer meyer with rub and bbq sauce. I did order BBQ chicken which was raw (no not pink from the smoking process I know the difference) The pulled pork was like saw dust with BBQ Sauce and the brisket was BOILED!!! No smoke ring, no smoked flavor, grey boiled meat!!! Not to mention the side dishes were no bigger than a double stuffed oreo cookie which sent me around the bend. I never before gotten back in my car and returned a meal before until that day! The bar tender said that alot of people have been complaining about raw and under cooked food. The owner/manager tried to pass off the raw chicken as smoke, when told "you eat it then", he opted for the garbage can and refunded all of the money with apologies.
Bad Bobs in Oceanside has no business calling itself a BBQ Joint. Just because they have some awards that someone else won not them and fancy slogans on the walls does not make them a BBQ Joint. It was by far the worst BBQ / Dining expirience I've ever had. Dont waste your time or money going there!!!

Long Island Hot Dogs

The Hot Dawg Truck has some of the best hot dogs on Long Island. The home made onions are off the hook and the speciality dawgs have to be tried! Unfortunately it is closed for the winter. Looking forward to it re-opening.
