"Stuffed" ----Cajun Meat Market

Dr. Just a fyi - I have seen Blue Runner at HEB. I felt like a crazy woman talking about Blue Runner for months at work and then loaded up in NOLA during November and then low and behold I saw them at HEB.

Also, I was at the HEB on Burnet and 2222 last week and an employee stopped me to ask what I would like to see added to their addition as far as items and I told her Community Teabags. I'm crossing my fingers.

Good eats near airport, along 71, in Bee Cave or Lakeway?

Ronnie's Real Food Bistro was a treat. It was extremely secluded and they have a 4 course $25 prix fixe menu. The portion size was great, and it was romantic, if you are looking for that sort of thing. I really enjoyed it.

Sambet's--possibly the worst I have ever eaten

Thanks MyySharona- last time we had a boil we boiled wwwaaayy too much and I ended up peeling crawfish for a good 5 hours, but what a fantastic etoufee it made.

Sambet's--possibly the worst I have ever eaten

I am really sorry to hear about this as well b/c I have been looking for a real roast beef poboy that requires at least 3 napkins. No luck yet. As I have mentioned in many previous posts, I have decided there is no where in Austin that can serve authentic Louisiana food. I have always just made the dishes at home and we are espically popular for our crawfish boils with our Texas friends.

good fried chicken in Austin (& beyond)?

I have heard that Jasper's in the domain has some good fried chicken, but be warned that they only serve it at lunch.

Plans for Mardi Gras

Chef, thanks for all your recommendations and yes MySharona I will be blaring wwoz from my computer all day!! I can't bring myself to go to Evangeline Cafe as I swear they use blue runner red beans from a can. I swear they taste just like it!!! I know that Gene's po-boys last year had a patron that had king cake to share with everyone.

Plans for Mardi Gras

What is everyone's plan for Mardi Gras? I can't sit at home becuase it will only upset me I am not in NOLA.

sushi in cedar park? Hayashi?

I traveled to Cedar Park the other weekend and in a strip mall of all places we found Hayashi. I found the sushi to be fantastic, but was a little surprised that on a Saturday night there was only 4 tables occupied in the whole place? Has anyone else ever tried this place? Thoughts? Who would have thought Cedar Park and Sushi, and strip mall went so well together?

Dart Bowl (Bowling Alley)

I am a big fan of the enchalidas at Dart Bowl. I am also a big fan of eggs and they combine the two to create one hot mess.

Need to find the best hot dog in town

Chuckster,
I had an amazing hot dog this past weekend @ Casino El Camino - I know I didn't get a burger, but I have had them before. I was craving a chili dog w/ sauerkraut and it definitely hit the spot. It had this amazing melted queso on top - so delllissh. You also can beat that you can get the amazing queso fries with it. I would highly recommend trying it out.

Also if you are really in the mood for gluttony, they also have a dog w/bacon and the works on it.

Austin's happy hour specials

Kona Grill in the domain has a great happy hour also.
M-F 3-7 1/2 price app, 1/2 price pizza, 1/2 price select sushi rolls
(they also have a reverse happy hour F-Sat 10-12)

Soups in Austin

taliesin15 - I also find the soups at Whole Foods and Central Market to be very inconsistent. The last time I had soup at Whole Foods, I sampled a cream of mushroom. It was the worst soup I have ever eaten. It was smothered by thyme and salt.

Soups in Austin

I am also a soup fan and my favorites in Austin have been from, surprisingly The Spicy Pickle and Mama Fu's. Spicy Pickle has a wonderful corn and green chili bisque that has a slight hint of heat Mama Fu's make a yummy thai coconut soup.

Parkside at 6th and San Jacinto - Did someone drop the salt shaker in my food?

I was also excited about the review and decided to try it last Wednesday. Plus: the server was very knowledgeable about the menu and overall excited about the food, mac and cheese is very decadent and full of herbs, the "better" chard was very tasty. Cons: the "better" chard was expensive for such a tiny portion ($11), the seasoning was very inconsistent (my fish was very salty and my date's potato gratin lacked all salt and pepper), overall meal was very expensive for the portion. I don't think I will be going back anytime soon unless I go for a small lunch with no alcohol.

chicken liver lovers?

I know that Hoover's does not; I have not been to Tony's.

chicken liver lovers?

I have yet to find a good place to find fried chicken livers in Austin, and yes I have been to Threadgill's. I found their livers to be very bland. Any ideas as to who serves this dish would be welcomed!!

Crawfish Price Check (and quality)

Cibodivino, I have been to Shoal Creek only because I grew up in Baton Rouge and was in serious need of some boiled crawfish. I do not recommend trying their crawfish at all. They were small, bland and overcooked and highly underseasoned. We actually just bought our own boiling materials and started having our own crawfish boils because we couldn't find anything that had enough flavor or heat here in town.

Crawfish season

So, we had our own crawfish boil this past weekend and we got our crawfish from Quality Seafood @ $3.00/lb. Cost is high by Louisiana standards, but I was pleasantly surprised. There were not too many dead guys and they were much bigger than expected. It definitely filled my crawfish fix.

Local source for kaffir lime leaf?

I was able to find some leaves at Whole Foods.......this was about 4 or 5 months ago. You might want to call them in advance, but I was able to purchase a few leaves in the packaged herb section.

Crawfish season

Amy,
Haven't bought them yet, as we just got our supplies this weekend. I am thinking we are going to try quality seafood.........I will definitely post how it turns out. Can't wait!!

Crawfish season

Ok well I was jonesing for some crawfish and knew Shoal Creek was having a boil so we ventured there on Saturday night....................major disappointment. Maybe, hopefully they were having an off night, but the tails were sticking to the shells and they were not spicy at all. I understand they must appeal to the masses, but c'mon. We immediately went out and bought all necessary supplies to have our own crawfish boil.

Best Oyster Po' Boy in Austin?

I am always on the hunt for a good oyster poboy and I have found the one at Shoal Creek Saloon is pretty darn good. It is chock full of oysters, fully dressed and gosh darn big. Now, if I could only find a warm roast beef poboy with gravy......
