No,Moxie tastes more like I think motor oil tastes(although I haven't tried the motor oil---LOL).
The Moxie and the motor oil have the same consistency IMO.

Thanks Kevin
i'll be looking forward to your opinions about the place this year.
We had the muffins last year and they were wonderful also.

We just got some goodies and headed over to the oceanfront to enjoy(pig out)(LOL).

Best Maine Lobster Roll?

I agree with you 100%.
I am a "lazy" lobster eater and the rolls are easy and lobster without all the mess and work(LOL).
We live in Upstate N.Y(I mean up near the Canadian border).and we bring our local bologna(which the locals here avoid) up to Maine each year.
I exchange the bologna(which Maine locals I know just love)for their lobster meat(which most of them don't eat).
Go Figure!!!
There is an old saying;"Familiarity breeds contempt" and I guess that applies to food also.
Tourists here cannot get enough of our local bologna;I can't stand it.
My Maine friends think the bologna is outstanding and they are willing to trade lobster for this bologna.
Again,go figure!!!(LOL).

Anyone been to Dot's this year?
Is she still open?
Without doubt the best blueberry pie I've ever had.
Heading up to Round Pond from 10/6-10/12 this year just to eat there if she's open.
I appreciate any feedback on this outstanding bakery and breakfast place if anyone has been there this summer or recently.
thanks in advance!

Non-chain dinner options in Littleton/Bethlehem NH?

Thanks for your opinion dayvuu!
We'll try the place again but it sounds, from the other posts here, that the place has slipped.
We'll report back on our experiences there.

Lobster Rolls in and around Boothbay Harbor

I agree with you about Larson's;outstanding lobster rolls .
Another great lobster roll(and a great view as well of the harbor) can be had at another of our favoirite lobster roll places The Pemaquid Lobster Co-op.

Are moderator's too heavy handed?

Another area that should be allowed is restaurant location, which the Chow Board sometimes allows.
I've been to some good restauants (many talked about here) that are in some of the worst locations possible such as high crime areas;areas known for drug dealing, ect.
My first inclination is to question how really good restauants survive in high-crime areas at all but many do.
The "safety factor" is sometimes allowed in restaurant reviewing and this should be allowed to continue just as reviews that say children are either appropriate or inappropriate in certain locations.
Is this discrimination of a sort?;I think this is but I'd like to know that not only is the restaurnt being reviewed by the quality of the food but by whether we should even risk going there at all.

recent experience with Rt 7 grill in Great Barrington?

We ate there last Fall.
The bar-b-que was OK but what really stood out was the bourbon lemonade.
They take about 20-30 lemons and take the skins off them and put them into one of those iced tea dispensers with a spigot on the bottom.
They then add enough bourbon to cover all the skinned lemons and they let it sit and sit until it really ferments.
They also add a bit of sugar.
Voila';the best summer quencher we've had in a while.
They shared the recipie readily and we devoured some good bar-b-que while we were there

Dinner in Littleton NH

The Littleton Diner has the best corned beef hash I've ever had also.
We stop there 2-3 times in October and just have the hash---it's that good!
Baliwick's has a good martini bar but the best food we've had in Littleton is at the Beal House.
We sat at the bar last year and had dinner there and the meal was excellent and the prices were reasonable.
We plan to go back there again this Fall.
Also will try the Little Grilled this year;thanks for the tip!

Best dinner choices in Malone and Saranac Lake?

We like Little Italy Restaurant in Saranac Lake.
I've been told they also own Nona Fina.
Blue Moon is great and there is a new Asian Buffet open that serves the best Asian bufffet we've ever been to .
The food is fresh, hot, and the place is immaculatly clean.
We tried Casa Del Sol last week,or,rather ,I should say we tried to go to Casa and their flyer said they were open for lunch but the place was locked tight.
Don't you hate places that say that they are open and when you get there you find them closed!
Make sure you get ice cream at Donnelly's.
There was the usual ine when we got there and the line to get ice cream was even longer when we left.
This is one of the best ice creams you'll find in Norhtern New York,or anywhere else ,for that matter.

Going to NH... duty free or not

Their Lebanon store is well-stocked.
I know because we just came back from there.
We find their hard liquor prices excellent but their wine prices aren't much different than we find back home(Upstate New York).
A bottle of 750ML Crown Royal runs around $20ish in New Hampshire;around $35ish in New York.
If you buy a case in N.H. they usually give you another 10% or so off that price.

Saturday lunch near Lenox

I agree that the ambiance is still great and I love drinking at the bar but the quality of the food is what we post about here and I think most of the food is mediocre as many have said here as of late.
I can remember when you got a great meal at a reasonable price at the Red Lion and that is what makes this all so sad;the quality of the food having slipped so much from what I can remember about the great food they USED to serve.

Saturday lunch near Lenox

We did Once Upon a Table for lunch over the weekend.
We loved their clam chowder.
The finely chpped clams were just great in that excellent chowder.
Like you said the prices aren't bad;we found the service excellent.
I liked their reubens also, but like yousaid, the portions are adequate not huge.

Saturday lunch near Lenox

They have a new chef.
We ate there last weekend,at the bar,and the fish and chips were great imo.
Try it again and see what you think.
It reminds me of a local tavern in an old Inn.
Understand that we like to eat a a friendly bar with grea tbar food and the Morgan House fills that bill nicely imo.

Saturday lunch near Lenox

I agree with you also about the Red Lion.
We never eat there anymore.
The food is way overpriced and ,like cowgirlinthesand said, poor at best.
We had a decent and elegantly served breakfast there last Winter but Haven in Lenox is the much better choice for breakfast imo.

Saturday lunch near Lenox

Try the Morgan House in downtown Lee,Ma.
Huge portions, really good food, in an old Inn atmosphere.
We prefer to sit at the bar where there is always a lively conversation going on.
I had fish andchips over the weekend and there was one huge portion of lightly-battered cod served not the usual heavily-breaded small chunks of cod found most elsewhere.
Also the prices are very reasonable compared to some of the other places mentioned here.

VT Food Tour

I too miss buying chesse from Mr. Coolidge at the old Plymouth Chesse store.
Waht a grand gentleman and the cheese was sooooo good !
We used to buy several wheels for all our staff at Xmas as well.
The place just isn't the same anymore.

Old Forge Dinner Options

Walt's in downtown Old Forge is where the locals eat and it's one of the better places in town.
A drive up to the Stillwater Hotel is worth the trip for the reallly good food at the Stillwater Hotel.

Help for Cooperstown Stay?

Well-said falkfood!
We tried the Otesaga again early this year and taht is the last time we ever eat there.
The same blad, tasteless food you mentioned and the same canned foods that you expect from a sleazy diner.
You would think that their advertised "1st class" hotel would be able to produce better-than-average-food to the guests.
The hotel is charming, the bar is snobbly and mediocre(and you can't eat at the bar;we were told only the owner of the place is allowed to eat there---so much for equal treatment!).
Avoid this place to eat but do walk around the place.

Hermitage Inn, West dover

Thanks Rich!
We were heading up that way this weekend and were going to go to Sawmill but Italian doesn't seem to be the proper venue for that old established New England Inn ---IMO.
We'll see you at the Roadhouse(LOL)!!!

Hermitage Inn, West dover

We'ate there over the Winter.
This was big mistake.
The food was good but way overpriced for what you got.
The portions were really small for the price and we left hungry.
We did the Roadhouse the next few nights and ,like
rRchK said,it was our favorite as well as his favorite,
Good food, great service, and moderate prices.
If money is no object you might want to try/stay at the Inn at Sawmill farms;the really good expensive place to eat, imo,in the area.
For breakfgast I 'd go to Dot's in downtown Wilmington.
A local favorite eating place for breakfast.
Have fun!

From Long Island to Oswego

We live near Oswego.
The best breakfast by far is Wade's located behind the Byrne Dairy on the main street.
Locals flock here by the hundreds for their great omlettes and the best home-made raisin bread around.
For dinner we like Vona's garlic pizza but I must admit that we haven't been to Vona's in a year or so.
Perhaps others can clue you on on other spots to try but don't miss Wade's!!!.

Saturday Night in Bethlehem, NH - need a nice restaurant.

I too agree with the other two posters.
Sugar Hill is the best choice in the area.
The Bethlehem area doesn't have that much to offer.

Canton, NY - any good eats?

McCarthy's is about the best restaurant in this otherwise food wasteland.
But you'd better hurry if you want to try the place because they plan toclose 5/6 to become a funeral home---no kidding!
Just up the road in Potsdam(where our son went to school) we used to go to The 1844 House;a 3-star mobil-rated restaurant .
This place was very good.
Also in downtown Potsdam is a bar/restaurant called Maxfields that you will like.
This is an upscale tavern/restauant that is very popular locally.
Happy interviewing:(SLU just raised their RBT again!!!)
