New Brazilian rodizio opening in Stamford
Coming Soon signs are up in the space below Target on Broad near Washington for something called "Rodizio Grill." It appears to be a chain. Don't know anything else about it beyond the website below:

Trade Joe's opening in former Borders's location in Stamford??
I've been hearing this for a few months but haven't seen anything that suggests it it true. There is a Facebook page that is promoting the idea:

Danbury
Nobody on this thread has mentioned Goulash Place. Is it still open? I haven't been in years but loved it ...
pupusas, baleadas, central american restaurants in southern connecticut....please
Try Antojitos Chapines in Stamford. Small, a few tables but mostly takeout. I've eaten the slaw, I like it, but it's never struck me as much more. Interested to hear what a good one is like.
Rico's Pizza Stamford CT, a Kinder, Gentler Colony?
Tried to order a take out pie last night but they were reporting an hour and forty-five minute wait. The word is out, obviously.
Stamford - Giovanni's on North St. - new owners?
I've been a few times since it changed hands last year. It is more or less the same, as far as I can tell. The stromboli seems to be the same recipe. The warmth of the previous owner was the only thing lacking ... but of course it will take a while to get to know the new folks.
BTW, the new owner is a son of the family that owns the Dairy Queen down the block on Summer, according to an article posted on the wall.
West Main Street in Stamford
Antojitos Chapines is very good Guatemalan. Best empanada's and tamales in town - particularly the tamales. Also very interesting pupusas with a purple (corn? bean?) filling. The relleno was ok the one time I had it 5 years ago.
Casa Villa used to be the best taco in town, before El Charrito drove in. They recently opened a second restaurant on East Main.
Both of these were discussed extensively on the late, lamented tri-state board, such as here:

Fairway (Stamford CT) Four Months Later - Thoughts?
It's become a regular part of our food shopping rotation. A few points:
- I don't believe we'll really be able to judge the quality of the produce until summer. A lot of what is currently on the shelves now comes from the Southern hemisphere, greenhouse/hydro or storage.
- I find it is very convenient. I live in Stamford, and there are a lot of products you just can't find together in any other spot. I make one trip to Fairway instead of a half-dozen stops. I actually feel bad about this because I have developed relationships with a lot of the smaller merchants in town and I'm not buying from them as often.
- The selection in the wine store is better and deeper than anything else in town, and prices are in line with others in the area.
- I pray that someone from Fairway is reading this, and that you remove all that foul smelling flavored coffee from your otherwise excellent selection. It's the dominant smell in about a quarter of the store. The guys working in that section totally agree with me. Trust me on this.
- Speaking of coffee, the rotating (weekly?) specials can generally get you a pound of quality beans for about $5.99.
- I think the layout of the aisles was designed by the same guys who designed the lines at the DMV.
- The cafeteria selection is distinct from anything else in town (or in FF County for that matter). My kids have asked to go there for dinner a few times when we were considering where to eat out. It's a pretty good value as well.
- The bakery sells some great breads. Maybe not their own stuff, but the Balthazar etc. is unrivaled by anything else in town.
Fresh Sardines? Yes you read it right...FRESH Sardines......in Connecticut?
Pagano's Seafood in Norwalk had small fresh sardines on Saturday.

Looking for good Korean bbq in CT or NY
Also, check the Manhattan boards for lots of discussion on the Korean restaurants along 32nd Street. Kang Suh is a favorite.
Great Dimsum? Willing to travel between New Haven, CT and Hartsdale,NY
If you are willing to go all the way to New Haven then you could also point your car in the other direction and go to Flushing. There are several great options, including Jade Asian, that blow away anything in Connecticut. It takes almost exactly as long as going to Laguardia airport, and is easy to get in and out (although parking can be a chore on Sunday's).
Lots and lots of talk about Flushing elsewhere on Chowhound.
Stamfordites (and area): anything local / nearby worth trying this weekend?
A second for Eos. There are a few in-depth reviews on this board and the late, lamented Tristate board if you search. Here's one:

Lunch Recommendations in Springdale Section of Stamford?
This is a great list from a part of Stamford that doesn't get much attention here. Thanks for posting.
Chinatown-style Chinese near Stamford?
Not that I've found, anywhere in Fairfield County. However, you can get great Cantonese food in Flushing, which is less then 40 minutes from Stamford. My personal favorites are Chao Zhou, Jade Asian (for dim sum) and East Lake. There are a few others with "Canton" in their name (I think that there is a "Canton Garden" near the Best Western).
The Outer Boroughs board has lots of great threads. One is posted below.

Coalhouse Pizza - Stamford
They are testing out the ovens today, have the doors open and are sharing some slices. I just stopped in a tried a few. They are very promising, in the Napolitano style, nicely charred around the edges.
Didn't see a menu, but they had 5 or so varieties out (white, margherita, rabe & sausage, wild mushroom and a dessert pie).
thanksgiving dinner in an old house or inn not too far from white plains??
How about Le Cremaillere in Banksville? Classic French food, nice old farmhouse, and you should be fine at that price point if you don't get foo far into the wine list. Only 15 minutes from White Plains.

Tawa on Summer St.
Meera on Summer Street has a partly Sino-Indian menu. I've tried some of it but honestly don't see the appeal. Nothing special really comes of the combination ... better to go to a Chinese restaurant if you want Chinese food.
Downtown Stamford restaurant update
Little Buddha appears to be open in the space across from Ridgeway Shopping Center, in the space formerly occupied by Emack & Bolio. Haven't been in to check it out yet.
Maya Restaurant - Stamford, CT
Stopped in tonight. There is a "Grand Opening" sign up, but that seems a little premature. It's a bakery/restaurant. There's a bakery display case in front along with some tables, and more tables in back. The menu hasn't been printed up yet and it seems like it is still in flux. The manager told me it was going to be "mostly Peruvian or Guatemalan" and I should stop by in a few days.
Maya Restaurant - Stamford, CT
Didn't mean to give that impression. I wouldn't give up hope on it. The guys I spoke with were vague and I think were a little confused by a guy in a suit stopping in and asking questions. Someone is clearly putting money and effort into it. I think the most likely case is that it's a good to very good sit-down option for authentic Mexican, and if we get lucky could be something special.
I'll be there soon after it opens to check it out.
Maya Restaurant - Stamford, CT
I stopped by last week (Thursday evening, I think) and poked my head in. I asked the guys working on the store when they were opening and what was going to be on the menu. Unfortunately, I only got some vague answers ("Open in June", "Regular Mexican food"). They didn't have a menu printed up yet.
I drive by it most nights and will report back as soon as it opens.
Ethiopian in Stamford/Norwalk area?
None in Fairfield County that I'm aware of, but there are a few in New Haven.
Lalibella: http://www.lalibelarestaurant.com/
Cafe Adulis: http://www.caffeadulis.com
Both are very good. Our friends from Ethiopia prefer Lalibella. The Caffe Adulis site wasn't working for me, hopefully they haven't closed.
Stamford Pizza Tour Guys on Colony, Others
The Stamford Pizza Tour guys have recently weighed in on a number of venerable Stamford pizza places, including Colony and Pellicci's:

Fresh Sauerkraut
I buy two-pound bags at the Polish markets in Stamford (Warsaw Market and Pulaski Market).
EOS Greek Cusine on Summer Street, well...
We were there for dinner last night. It's probably become our favorite white tablecloth restaurant in town. At this point I'd rather eat there than anywhere else, including the restaurant-who-must- not-be-named on Chowhound.
The appetizers are really great; our family of four generally shares 4 or 5 apps, then two entrees. Favorite apps are the saganaki ("flaming cheese" to my giggling teenagers), melitzanosalata, dolmades, olives & feta, grilled octopodi. For entrees, the grilled whole fish is just wonderful, with sea salt, lemon, olive oil and oregano. They will fillet it for you. Swordfish is also excellent, and we had a roast baby goat a couple of times that will change whatever it is you think about goat.
Dinner for my family of 4 is around $100, including two glasses of wine. Service can be a little squeaky. Last night they were clearly understaffed in the front, although once we ordered the food came out quickly. Reservations are almost required for peak hours, but there's a bar where you can wait.
Egane & Clive's on Bedford Street, Stamford
Went to Egane for dinner on Saturday night. Oddly enough, there is no sign of Clive's or any burgers on the menu. I wonder if they never actually went through with it, or if the marketplace let them know it was a lousy idea and they reverted to all Korean + sushi.
Had a nice meal. A few new Korean options on the menu, but basically the same. About 10 tables occupied (out of 20 or so) at 7:30 on a Saturday night, so I guess they are feeling the pinch like most others.
Stamford, CT Area Family Friendly Suggestions
Lakeside Diner, right off of Exit 34 of the Merritt. Pretty views of, duh, a lake. Old-timey pancakes, etc. Very kid friendly.
cheap dinner in or around stamford for 1?
No, unfortunately. It's actually adds up quickly.
The menu with pricing is on their site:

cheap dinner in or around stamford for 1?
Myrna's is much better than Layla's. Plus, it's got table service and wine / beer.
The best things are the meze. An assortment of kibbe, lamb sausages, lentils & rice, grape leaves, hummus w/meat, shankleesh, labne, halloumi are all excellent.
I think a lot of people try the falafel and stop there, which misses the better options.
You can't eat there for under $10, however, which is why I didn't mention in my first post.
CSA Versus Farmer's Markets in Fairfield County [moved from Tristate board]
We've been part of the Fort Hill Farm CSA for three years. I think IrishNYC called it pretty close to how we see it.
In terms of value, the CSA is a better deal than the farmer's market. The difference is that with a CSA you get what you get. Sometimes you get something that you're not sure how to handle, but you've got to figure it out. This has expanded our horizons a bit. I consider myself expert at ways to cook Kale, for example, which I couldn't say before joining.
The thing we like the best about our CSA is the surprise of seeing what's in the box. I bring it home and our kids tear through it, trying stuff. Some of their friends make a point of coming over on delivery day for dinner.
I shopped at farmer's markets a lot before we joined, but I find that we're eating much better now with the CSA, both health-wise and in terms of creativity. I couple of times a week I try and make something with just whatever is in the box and some grains (loaf of bread, couscous, noodles, rice, etc.) and some cheese or dairy.
I also wonder if there is a CSA that has open shares right now. I think Fort Hill has at least a 3 year wait, last I checked.
