Looking for Momotaro Tomatoes

I didn't see any there a couple weeks ago, but I did get a pretty cool grafted Cherokee Purple. It's an heirloom plant grafted onto a hybrid rootstock, so you get more fruit and a heartier plant. We'll see how it works.

Neem oil fixes that.

Looking for Momotaro Tomatoes

They have plants right now. I saw them a couple days ago. You can try growing them in a big planter on your balcony or porch. It would probably work.

Looking for Momotaro Tomatoes

If you're wanting plants, I bought some last year at Mitsuwa and Nijiya Markets. They grew freakishly well here, so big they collapsed my tomato cages (the large size). I also got Japanese cucumbers, eggplants, and peppers. I'm getting a second year from my eggplants and cucumbers.

Japanese cucumbers in northwestern San Francisco?

They're super easy to grow, if you have space. I grew some last year in a large pot. The vines get huge, and the cukes come in pretty quickly. I love them, but I don't like paying over $2/lb.

Geylang Late Night Must Eats

We're basically doing the same thing. My husband and I are leaving Bangkok tomorrow, and also staying in Geylang for a couple days before heading back to Japan.

Singapore--Maxwell Road Food Station closed?

Thanks! We'll visit it when we go back through!

Singapore--Maxwell Road Food Station closed?

We were there about 5 pm. It looked closed and dark, and absolutely no one was inside. We actually were looking for the chicken and rice place, but got some at the hawker market across the street. Loved it, and will have to get more!

Singapore--Maxwell Road Food Station closed?

Today my husband and I went by the Maxwell Road Food Station, and it was very closed. Is this just for a few days or is it permanent?

Most popular water dispenser in Japan

If you're wanting a hot water dispenser, Zojirushi makes excellent ones. You may want to use filtered or bottled water to fill it to keel down mineral scale. Almost everywhere sells them (Livin, Homes, Seiyu, Yodabashi, BIC), and occasionally you can find them at Hard-Off (chain of resale stores that generally has some great stuff at reasonable prices).

Holiday Tamales

I drove by the Escondido location a couple weeks ago, and there was a For Sale sign in the window. I was sad. However, if they have them again this year, Mi Rancho Market down the street next to Peterson's has good tamales this time of year.

Looking for quality, inexpensive cutlery in San Diego?

I bought from knifemerchant.com years ago when I lived in Florida. I had no idea they were this close! Knifesavers, you have made my day!

Marine Graduation

There's a lot close to MCRD. Mimmo's on India is pretty good. They also own Grab N Go Subs at India and Grape (very tasty). Mona Lisa has great sandwiches, too. If you're free Saturday morning, the farmer's market at Little Italy is really nice. You can take the train within a couple blocks of there.

Need 8 good month old friendly spots in San Diego

My friend and I go out at least once weekly with her now 17-month old. He's generally well-behaved, and eats almost anything as long as it's good (he refuses to eat Denny's or IHOP, not a huge fan of McD's).
Cafe on Park is really great. They just opened a new dining area, so the waits, even on a Saturday morning, are less than 15 minutes. It's one of his favorites.
He enjoys the chicken and waffle at Brian's on Washington (eats almost 1/2 waffle, and a chicken leg). The food is good, and they have a nice variety.
We went to the Fig Tree in Pacific Beach for the first time Saturday. The stuffed French Toast was incredible. He had a 1/2 order of french toast, and ate almost all of it.
Souplantation is good when you have a kid who's starving, and can't wait for food. He enjoys the salad bar (loves pickled beets and olives). The hot food isn't absolutely spectacular, but generally good, and you can get a pretty healthy meal.

San Luis Obispo: Madonna Inn restaurant and cafe review

I saw this place on my way up to Monterey, and was curious. May have to give it a try. Oh, yeah, and the Toto Washlet is nice. My husband wants one for the house after trying them in Japan.

First time trying Korean food

My friend and I have decided to give Korean food a try. With the huge selection of places here, we figure we should be able to find some really great stuff. We'll have a small child with us, but he eats anything (the only thing he won't eat is Denny's and IHOP). Does anyone have any dish or restaurant recommendations? Thanks!

in downtown with toddler..need suggestions for breakfast, lunch and dinner

My bestie and I do breakfast with a 15 month-old every Saturday. Cafe on Park (University and Park) is excellent. The food and service are great, and they just opened a new larger dining area, so there's almost never a wait. His favorites are the blackberry cornmeal pancake, meatloaf, and the house-made bread with jam.

Trappe Door, Greenville, SC--I shaved my legs for this?

Thanks for the info. You may have saved me from a substandard meal. I'm headed that way in a week.

Duke's Mayo

You bring up a good point. She just may do that. Maybe I should get her one that's not so great...

Duke's Mayo

Thank you all! I knew I could order it from Amazon (what can't you get from them?), but didn't need that much. I'll check Jonathon's and World Markets (again, thanks!). If neither one of them has it, maybe she'll feel Trader Joe's or Best Foods is an ok substitute. Again, thanks for all your help!

Duke's Mayo

My poor roomie is having a huge craving for tomato sandwiches. The poor Southern girl NEEDS Duke's for this sandwich. I know I've seen it in the SD area (it's been a while), but now I can't remember exactly where. Can anyone help? Thanks!

YOUR IMMEDIATE ATTENTION PLEASE!!!!

Dawn dish detergent is the best thing to take capsicum off skin and mucus membranes (I was a law enforcement instructor in that area), including eyes. If that sounds too painful (which if it's bad enough you'll do anything to get it to stop), baby shampoo and sugar combined also works. Milk works if you've got it in your mouth. But no matter what you use, be sure to clean thoroughly. If not, the next time you get sweat, you will burn again (seen it!)

Restaurant in Julian, CA?

He's a career thief, too. He'll take anything. He's stolen raw AP flour (why?), a quart of cream out of the case (without disturbing the rest of the box. I found him on his blankie, having punched a hole in the carton with his tooth, and mashing on it like a juice box), 2 lbs of Valentine's chocolate (also off a table), a can of Hershey's cocoa powder (off the table). He even opens sealed wrappers.

Restaurant in Julian, CA?

My husband and I went to Dudley's a while back, and got several breads (a couple for us, a couple for friends). We got the Jalapeno Asiago round loaf to try. After we got home later in the day, we put the loaf on the kitchen table. We came home, and there was the bread, on the floor, but still in the bag. When I picked it up, I found that the bag had been torn open, and the loaf hollowed out from the bottom (leaving the dome untouched). The culprit was our then 12-year-old Dachshund-Beagle, Noodle. Apparently the bread was pretty good.

Need to be saved from high desert culinary woe!!

If you want a deli for lunch, Mona Lisa on India has great Italian sandwiches. Be prepared to wait.

Mexican ingredient store?

I am in total love with Vallarta. We've had ours in Escondido for a while, and it's just as clean and nice as the day it opened. Much better than the Ralph's it replaced.

Where to buy Za'artar?

I get it at North Park Produce in Poway. If you haven't been, it's an interesting store with some unique and tasty products. Just be careful with the produce.

Chili Fries in SD

Got some at Studio Diner once. They were pretty good, not too greasy.

Tokyo Je T'aime

I love Japan in general. I'm yet to go anywhere I don't like. Aside from having the best food in general (I know this thread is about Toyko, but I'm dying right now for Tonkatsu from the place in Motomachi). The people are so kind and polite. If you look lost, someone will stop and help you, even if they're extremely busy. Even the day of the earthquake we got stuck in Ginza. Several Japanese people asked us if we would be ok in the train station with everyone else. A restaurant owner stayed after he closed his shop and gave green tea to everyone (and there were a couple hundred people) waiting for the JR train to come up (We eventually were able to get the subway back to Yokohama about 5 am).
I can't wait to be able to go back (my husband is in the military, and is out at sea until later in the year when I'll head back). It's funny how you can get homesick for somewhere that's not technically home.

[Should I travel to Japan?] Food industries in Tokyo - business as usual?

I can't wait to go back later in the summer!
