Torontonian visiting Calgary....reccomendations, please?

We stumbled upon Ox and Angela on a sunday for lunch, it is underwhelming, although the staff was friendly. I don't think there's a hype around it.

Blink is my favorite place for now, although I've yet to try Rouge and Teatro.

Jos et Basile / closed?

I drove by the shop last tuesday, it's empty !!

Wedding reception at a restaurant: on Grand Prix Weekend... help please?

Bice is F1 central, usually has private parties starting thursday.

Cortile's outdoor space would be lovely for a small wedding.

Rumors abound about the sale of Schwartz's

porker, you're quite right, Ben's quality of food had declined a lot, many years before the strike, I used to live closeby and can vouch for this. They were in a perfect spot yet patrons stopped going, there's a reason for this.

Pinon Grill

I like their ribs and asian coleslaw !

Anatolia Boca Raton

I live across the street from this place and I'll definitely give it a try .

Laurier Gordon Ramsay

Last thursday, I got a booth at 5:40 p.m., was told I had to be out by 7, which was fine by me.
Another time, it was a tuesday for lunch, I got a table at 11:40 a.m.
Lunch is easier than dinner , I think, to walk in without res, as long as you're there before noon.

Le Devoir 2010 Best Restaurants: 1. Piment Rouge, 2. Jun-I, 3. Gandhi, 4. Renoir, 5. Europea...

I wonder if he'll do a list for 2011.

Laurier Gordon Ramsay

I've been back a few times now, always early lunch or early dinner so no lineups, and it never disappoints, food and service , I'm addicted to the 3 mini burger appetizer ; I've yet to try the fries and the chicken, as crazy as this may seem. Pot pie and onion soup were great.
The mocha cake is identical to the original one, I wish they had improved on it. The carrot cake was delicious, they give you a small container of additional frosting. yum.

Montreal and Tremblant

it's la Bottega, on St Zotique. Chao Praya is on Laurier.

Montreal and Tremblant

In Tremblant this summer, we really loved La Petite Cachee, it's only 5 minutes from from the village and it seemed casual enough to bring toddlers.

As for Montreal, others might be more helpful and there has been threads about eating with toddlers ; if they like sushi, we've been to Mikado on Laurier with our grandson many times, and also at Chao Praya for thai , also at La Botega for pizza and appetizers.

Poutine in Montreal?

My favorite poutine nowadays is at the Royal Phoenix bar, corner Bernard and St Laurent,
we were having drinks on the terrasse this summer and had the freshest most amazing poutine ever, with pulled pork over it, just divine. And I'm not a big fan of poutine usually.

Laurier Gordon Ramsay

"under our salad dish was cut up squares of printed paper, guess they try to be different/rustic?" those squares of printed paper are prints of the old Laurier menu, I personally thought that was a nice touch.

Finally went there for lunch yesterday, I had the 3 mini burger appetizer, a beet salad appetizer and a coleslaw, everything was excellent and it was too much food honestly. Service was prompt and efficient, I really like what they've done as decor, it still has the feel of the old Laurier BBQue, in a homey but updated way. We shared the lemon pie which was superb.

Another Greek thread...

I second the suggestion for Ella Grill, it never disappoints me; less expensive than Milos.

Where to go with picky eaters who don't know that they are - Montreal

Lemeac is rather loud, but other than that, I think it would be a good choice for your group, Tavern on the Green also.
The fact that you want to share a celebratory meal with them should be a good reason for all of them to be accomodating and pleasant I hope. !! keep us posted on your choice !!

Need recommendation for birthday dinner

Maiko sushi is quite expensive but Scarolie's is mid priced, what is your price point ; have you ever tried Le Gourmand in Pointe Claire ?

Not-so-fancy place that can handle dietary restrictions

Game or organ meats are easy to spot on any menu, whereas gluten intolerance I would imagine is more difficult to manage. Where did you previously eat in Montreal ?

Drinking chocolate?

Myriade also has the drinking chocolate, it's excellent.

Baked Alaska

I used to have les Ïles Flottantes at les 2 Singes de Montarvie on St Viateur a few years ago, I checked their online menu just now but they don't show the desserts.

Traveling to Montreal with a Fine Dinning Chef

Cava on avenue du Parc has a younger vibe than Milos, same owners, great food.
Not your typical greek restaurant.

Le Cartet or Vallieres for brunch on saturday is excellent, both on McGill street in Old Mtl ;
there are excellent tables in Old Mtl, Graziella for example, Club Chasse et Pêche.

On Laurier street, I would recommend Lemeac, for any meal; their brunch ( weekends only ) is unique, just a few dishes, not standard.

Simple refined Italian, la Bottega, in Little Italy for a dinner of shared appetizers and pizza in a vibrant atmosphere, good wine list. Taverne Dominion in the downtown area is a rejuvenated old tavern with an assortment of good pub food.

enjoy your weekend ! let us know how it went.

Chuck Hughes from Garde Manger Opening New Restaurent in Old Montreal?

L'Express has the name of the restaurant embedded in the stone outside, if I remember well.

Palm Beach County-best continental

July 4th has come and gone, where did you go ??

I love Cafe Boulud for dinner, we've been there numerous times, on holidays and on quiet days,
it's consistently good . Service and food.

healthy/light dinner options downtown, preferably within a 15 minute walk of Sherbrooke & Peel

You could share a few appetizers at Taverne Dominion, I love their shrimp dip.

Looking for solid Italian resto in downtown MTL; not too fancy/pricey, needs to be vegetarian friendly

Although not hip, more quaint, Bistro Marinara on Stanley is my go to place for simple pasta dishes, good service, always fresh, moderately priced. It's below Ste Catherine on the west side.

General Tao Chicken - So much choice but where to find the best??

Chalet Thai in Ste Anne de Bellevue makes the best GT imo, crispy and not overly sweet, the batter is not thick. Still, I feel like I ate too much candy when I have it, combined with other dishes.
I keep vowing I will not have any more thai food, but once in a while, I crave it.

Required: Upscale restaurant for special event

I will also recommend Cava, we were there last night for the 4th time this winter. The staff is young and very attentive, we usually like to share a few appetizers, the meatballs, beet cake,
and grilled shrimp are my favorite.

Boulud at the Ritz

Cafe Boulud in Palm Beach is one of my favorite restaurants in Florida so I'm looking forward to see what he opens in Montreal.

Iburger

I heard that there's a Chee Burger opening at les Cours Mt Royal, I know of them in Florida, the theme is based on jukeboxes, etc... nothing new but it's a decent burger, not gourmet style, basic with multi choices for toppings, buns are too soft though, imo.

Easter brunch

Lemeac on Laurier has a great brunch, they have 2 seatings on Easter day; reserve early.
It's not a lunch/brunch though with a big spread, it's a nice variety of breakfast dishes.

Venue for party event 100-120 people w/ booze and DJ

Le Lion D'Or on Ontario is a venue I love, great atmosphere, lounge like setting.
I have no idea how much it rents for though.
