My Place - Canadian Pub in BWV

Actually no, they are very easy to raise as they do well in pasture:

"Easily Handled: Cattle drive stampedes may have made good movie footage but rarely happen in the reality of Longhorn ranching. These cattle are quite gentle and very easily worked on foot. " http://www.elcoyote.com/breedchara.html

My Place - Canadian Pub in BWV

Yes, as beef has been domesticated for eons... if he put "Wild" salmon on his menu and served farmed salmon would you not be pissed?

My Place - Canadian Pub in BWV

there is no such thing as "wild longhorn beef"

the cafe section at Pusateri's in Yorkville...on a Saturday morning

I know they have granola and Yogurt just inside the store across from the croisants. They laso have many different fruit cups they make tehmselves as well as fruit juices.. But I am not sure if they have these accessable to the people in the little cafe counter or if you have to go around yourself.

Plateau of Dining in Toronto?

Well put...

Plateau of Dining in Toronto?

I am NOT arguing that it is "bad" I am arguing the original question posted: "Is anywhere doing anything really interesting right now or is it just the same-old?" Right now (to me) "local" = "same old" unless you can give me an example of someone in Toronto doing something REALLY exciting with "Local"

Plateau of Dining in Toronto?

You qualified the statement by saying:

"That may just be appropriate for myself and my out of town pals though. Etobicoke could very well be perfect for your friends."

Which just says that that is your opinion (which every post on this site is the opinion of the person writting it) so I did not feel it changed or added to the context of the message.. sorry..

Plateau of Dining in Toronto?

This was just posted on another thread:

"Personally, if I had visitors in from out of town, unless they were serious sushi fans, I wouldn't take them to Kaji for the simple fact it's in Etobicoke. I'd rather take them to a place in a more interesting area. "

That is what I mean... Everything has to be 125% perfect for someone to say it is good in this city... they would rather comprimise on food then to take someone to Etobicoke... sad...

Plateau of Dining in Toronto?

Where have you eaten graydyn? what did you order?

Maybe it is not the the restaurants are boring but that you maybe tended to order safe things... if you go in thinking you will be disapointed you order safe, which means boring which means you will be dissapointed vicious circle...

When was the last time you said to the waiter tell the chef to bring me what he thinks is the best dish on the menu...

Plateau of Dining in Toronto?

If you see a restaurant that says it is serving a "Local" menu in Toronto.... do you go "WOW That is exciting I HAVE to go there, that is something inventive and NEW!!" no.. because most menus in the city now have become fairly "Local" so that it is more of a buzzword like "Tapas" then something that stirs excitement...

Plateau of Dining in Toronto?

I knew a guy who used to work there and there was a guy who would fly in once a month to eat there... But the point is people here complain about exciting menus yet there are people around the world who would love to have some of the restaurants we have. But in typical Canadian fashion we put them down and say others do it better so why bother going... which only adds to the issue.

Plateau of Dining in Toronto?

And there are people who fly in from New York just to eat at Kaji yet most Torontonians will not drive to Etobicoke to eat there..

Plateau of Dining in Toronto?

Where did you have these? In Toronto?

Anyone watch Chopped?

The original English (UK) version is a lot lighter with judges walking around interacting with the cooks as they make their dishes even giving suggestions.. and I think they use more amatuer / home cooks then they do in the US show..

Plateau of Dining in Toronto?

What meals / techniques would you consider exciting? Fusion is old / Molecular is too gimmicy / Local is done to death... What would a top chef have to do to make you say WOW and come back every month (in this economy)...

Can you explain?

But if you read the post he is not commenting on what was on the show he was commenting on His dislike for the owner of the restaurant from before the show even aired (and in a sexist way saying her place is "at home").

And why then cannot I respond with FACTS showing that his career is better since he has been married? By not allowing this you make it seem like the original post is correct when it i factually wrong? (He never owned his own restaurant before getting married now he had a restaurant, two retail stores, a bakery and a TV show). These are not my opinions they are facts that anyone can lookup (Wiki etc) yet each time they get deleted.

If you do not think this is the case then you should change your Sticky to say "we prefer not to host threads that are simply another excuse to bash TV personalities on a personal level unless they are on a reality show then all is fair game"

Can you explain?

Can you explain why this post on Food and media has not been removed: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/652409

Does it not fall into all of the problems that you discuss in your sticky:

"We try to keep the focus of this site on food, and "rant-fests" don't further that goal. While it's fine to discuss the products and shows featuring TV personalities, we prefer not to host threads that are simply another excuse to bash TV personalities on a personal level.

Since we established this board, there's been a LOT of threads insulting people who host TV cooking shows. We're going to ask everyone to please ease up on the complaint threads. Such threads don't lead anyone to good chow and just end up with a lot of personal and nasty insults (TV hosts are people too!). If someone makes a recipe on TV that looks awful- or great- you're welcome to talk about it here, but if you just want to share your latest peeve, please don't use Chowhound to do it. Thanks."

I went on Friday and there where only two vendors that I could see. so not much of a ribfest.. The US based one had a longer line so I got ribs from the pretty canadian girl.. Like was said above the ribs where sweet.. pretty much fall off the bone style.. seemed to get a lot ... ordered 1/3 rack and got 5 bones... Is that standard?

The beans were not bad but the potatos tasted funny..

He never owned Prohibition, he did not have the money to invest for a share and he was let go a few months after they opened. Joey was always more of a promoter he just liked to say he owned the places and they did not mind as long as he brought in the crowds...

Produce at Farmer's Markets really from farmers?

I have talked to "vendoes" at St lawrence who are not the farmers but were hired by the farme to man the stall. The kid was actually in Med school and had a lot of information about who the farmer was and where the farm was but of course was not as knowledgable as a farmer would be. the baskets were labeled as the farm so I was sure I was not beeing part of a bait and switch.. but you never know.. To me a farmer should be allowed to hire people to man the stall as long as the money goes to the farmer and the product is direct from them. This allows bigger distribution but still only one step away from the farm...
