Mastro's or CUT?

Thanks again for the replies. We may just have to hit up both places since the opinions are so mixed!

Mastro's or CUT?

Which do you recommend for great steaks and delicious sides? Thanks in advance!

Founding Farmers Help!

I'm going to Founding Farmers for dinner tonight. What should I get (appetizer/entree/dessert)? I'm usually a big meat lover... Any recommendations would be very welcome and appreciated. Kind regards!

Chinese in DC

My favorite is Meiwah (in Foggy Bottom/Dupont)

Can't Miss Places

I'll be heading to Berkeley/San Fran for a vacation in August and am looking for "can't miss" places to eat -- they can be fancy or casual, hole-in-the wall or well-known, vegetarian or non-vegetarian, all-American or ethnic, etc. Basically, if it's a place you love in the Bay Area, I'd like to hear about it! Many thanks in advance.

Central's decadent deconstructed Banana Split...

I'm also a big fan of this dessert (and the kitkat bar). That said, I'm not crazy about Central other than for its desserts!

Co Co Sala

Although the 5-course dessert was good, the "small plates" that are available for dinner are so overpriced and tiny! I'd say, go somewhere else for dinner and consider Co Co Sala for dessert. Also be forewarned that the service at CCS leaves much to be desired.

unsweetened, Dutch-processed cocoa in DC?

I ended up going to the Harris Teeter in Pentagon City and was able to find it there. I searched high and low in DC proper first, but came up empty handed!

unsweetened, Dutch-processed cocoa in DC?

Hi,

I need unsweetened, Dutch-processed cocoa for a recipe. Does anyone know where I can get it in DC?

thanks!

Tabard Inn or Old Ebbitt for dinner? Or M&S?

I prefer Tabard Inn -- serene atmosphere and great food.

Central: Where to sit?

Thanks for the recommendation -- I made the reservation today for a seat in the back with a view of the kitchen. They said they couldn't guarantee seating location, but that they'd try.

Central: Where to sit?

I'll be going to Central in the next few days for lunch. When I make the reservation, where should I ask to be seated? (It's a group of 3 of us.) Thanks in advance.

Capital Grill or Caucus Room?

One of the worse meals I've ever had in DC was at Capital Grill. My steak was beyond overdone and I ordered it pink!

NY-Style Pizza in DC?

Any recommendations on where to get really good "NY-style" pizza here in DC? I tried Luigi's near Dupont and was very disappointed.
Thanks in advance!

Worst high dollar steak house experience

For me the worst has been Capital Grille. My steak was totally charred and my sides were tasteless.

Blue Duck Tavern Thoughts?

I've only been once but thought the food was excellent.

Opinions on Famous Luigi's?

The pizza was tasteless, rather like cardboard. Worse than cafeteria food.

DC girl coming home...looking for Shrimp & Grits

I'd recommend Creme on U Street. I've never had the shrimp and grits, but other food there has been good.

17th Street Corridor

Thanks for all of your recommendations. I live in the neighborhood and am still somewhat new to the area. I haven't had much luck with the local places I've tried and wanted some new recommendations. Thanks, again.

17th Street Corridor

Any decent restaurants right along 17th Street, NW (East Dupont)? Thanks in advance!

Georgetown Cupcake

I just tried Georgetown Cupcakes last weekend -- quite good! The "Chocolate Cubed" (choc cake, choc. icing, and choc. shavings) was decadent.

In response to Jeserf's question: The cupcakes are probably best when eaten the day they're made, but they'd still be good the following day. You could always ask the proprietors about optimal storage, etc...

Sorry, Cakelove Haters.

This weekend I tried the cupcakes from the newly opened Georgetown Cupcakes. I tried various flavors, including the Red Velvet, Key Lime Pie, "Chocolate Cubed," and Vanilla. Overall, their cupcakes were quite good (far better in my opinion than anything at Cake Love). They were creamy, buttery, and sweet. My favorite was the Key Lime Pie -- it had a genuine, fresh lime flavor, but was not overpowering. I'd definitely recommend the place.

Sorry, Cakelove Haters.

Glad you enjoyed the cupcake. I'm afraid I qualify as a CakeLove hater... I've yet to try anything there that I'd like to eat again. I even waited for everything to reach room temp... My gripe is that, while their baked goods have a somewhat rich, creamy texture, there's just not enough sweetness for my taste buds. It seems to me as if, instead of adding sugar, they just add lots of butter. Anyway, to each their own :)
