Roasted Pear in BP?

Yeah there are a ton of chain restaurants in Maple Grove. Not much of anything in Brooklyn Park. And I don't think much of Houlihans. Granite City is ok.

Roasted Pear in BP?

Yeah I agree...we need somethng new. Mad Jacks is as close as we come and that's not saying much either. And I've never been to Nectar...everytime I drive by it's closed. I was starting to wonder if it was even in business.

Roasted Pear in BP?

I'd never heard of Roasted Pear in Burnsville, but after looking at the menu, I hope it is the same. We could use something new in BP. Have you been there and is it good?

Eden Prairie - Edina Update

Have you been to Bloomington Chophouse? 494 and France in the Hilton on the corner. They have a great lunch menu. Reasonable prices, great service, we go there once in awhile for lunch and everyone likes it.

Fried Chicken - Twin Cities

I had no idea there was a Pizza Ranch in Champlin. I'll have to give the chicken a try. Thanks!

Reactions to City Pages "Best of..."???

Nope...that's not the same place.

Best Chain Breakfast?

I absolutely agree on White Castle. And that is also what I order, bacon, egg, cheese on Toast. And the best thing about it is that you can get it starting at midnight...as you're heading home from the bar.

50th anniversary venue for my parents

Any particular part of town or type of food?

How about Jax? It's old school, but they have great food and very nice private rooms. As well as a patio.

McDonald's Cherry Berry Chiller - YUM

This is seriously the best thing they have ever done. It's so delicious and refreshing. Made with 100% fruit juice and ice. I wonder how many I need to buy to keep it on the menu permanently.

Genuine Home-Baked Cakes

I stopped in last week and got a piece of caramel cake and a caramel bar to go. They were both fabulous. I wish I'd also gotten the coconut cake as it looked wonderful and I've been thinking about it ever since. Anyway...I was talking to the owner and it sounds like she is considering closing the shop downtown. A couple of Byerly's/Lunds have picked up her products and they are encouraging her to close her shop and put her focus there. She is considering that as well as trying a few of the farmer's markets. I wish her the best and hope I find her somewhere. The desserts were great!

Potbelly

Pretty good for a chain. Really good salads too. I few weeks ago I got their chicken cheddar salad and the chicken they use is significantly better than the others. Tastes much less processed. And I can't leave there without getting one of their dream bars. Very yummy.

Black cherry smoothie discontinued at Panera

Hey, you made my day! I'll watch for it. Thanks!

Reactions to City Pages "Best of..."???

Same old same old. And I too agree with most of these comments, Many categories have little competitiion, A couple things that bugged me.

Lindey's is our best steak place? Ummm...that's sort of embarrassing. I giant hunk of steak and an iceberg lettuce salad is the best we can do? I strongly disagree. The one time i went I left and had to immediately throw my clothes in the wash and send my coat to the dry cleaner because you can't escape that place without smelling like whatever it is they marinate their meat in.

It bugged me that the pictures they used don't match the category. For example, the best desserts award goes to Victory 44 and they display a picture of a sandwich. The best meatloaf displays a pic of fish. It kind of seems like CityPages didn't put a lot of effort into this one.

I haven't been to Spring Street in awhile but I was kind of expecting to see DSpot win the best wings category.

A more specific Thai question

I like SYSL, but the OP was specifically asking about pad thai and it don't recall that even being on their menu.

I like Roat Osha on Lyndale, Not terribly authentic but nice atmosphere, great service and good happy hours with full bar,

Genuine Home-Baked Cakes

Wow, thanks for the tip. Homemade cake is my very favorite treat and it's so hard to find a place with the right cake and frosting combination. Very few places in the Twin Cities. Plus I love Candyland. I might have to make a stop downtown. Thanks!

Travail

Will they let you get the tasting menu for one?

I eat alone fairly frequently myself. Normally I don't mind, especially if there is a bar I can belly up to. Except Friday or Saturday evenings. Then it's just sad and pathetic.

Travail

2 saturdays ago, I got there at 4:30, got seated at 8:20. We were a party of 6 and were expecting the wait so we were ok with it, but that is a bit much. The meal was great, but I won't go back unless it's a weeknight and a small party. Good fun and a great experience, but there are lots of great places to go.

Bakeries and restaurants in/near St. Paul

Good to know, thanks! There aren't a lot of Nepali items on the menu but I'm assuming they are similar to Himalayan, which I LOVE.

Suddenly I'm craving caramel rolls and curry.

birthday cake for 2?

I think you can do better than Wuollet. What area of town are you looking for?

If it were me, I'd order a birthday cake for 10 and just eat off of it for a few days. But if you really only want cake for 2, maybe you should consider Cupcakes? Then you can get whatever flavor you want. And my go to cupcake place is Cupcake on University.

Bakeries and restaurants in/near St. Paul

Yes they are, although I've never ordered from the Nepali portion of the menu. For some reason I was thinking the owners were connected to the Himalayan. Did I totally make that up?

I didn't know about the Key's connection, but now that you mention it, I can see it too. I like the variety of baked cakes in the case. All that I've tried I really liked.

I also get what you're saying about about the depressing atmosphere...I think it's the clientele. Sort of the nursing home crowd. My mom and I often go for breakfast though and food is always solid. I'm willing to overlook it for a fabulous caramel roll. And possibly a piece of cake to go.

Bakeries and restaurants in/near St. Paul

I agree with everyone else's assessment here and I too love bakeries. One place I never see mentioned on here is Highland Cafe and Bakery. It's a fairly average diner type place but I think they have a really good bakery. They make their own cakes and I think they are above average and always fresh. But I REALLY think they have the best caramel roll in town. Better than Isle Bun and Coffee, better than Good Day Cafe, and better than .....Bars Bakery. Yep I said it.

Best Bakery -- not refined, not French, just good donuts

Yeah I like the Heights Bakery too. Every once in a while I'll stop if I'm in the area and get a long john. I too prefer raised, non greasy donuts. Also, they always have something with coconut on it so they get extra points from me. They do a decent birthday cake as well.

Aida Mediterranean in Richfield

It's a little bit south of lariet lanes....actually on 66th. Right next door (east) of the flower shop. Let us know what you think. I work in the area and plan on checking it out next week.

Downtown weekend

Plus 1 for Ike's, especially for breakfast or brunch.

I think FireLake is good too and would suit both you and your husband, and is walkable via the skyway.

Great steak for a decent price

Another vote for Erte. I like Porterhouse as well but I recall it being more than $30. I must be wrong.

I think Lindey's is pretty tacky and unless you eat shrimp, there are no vegatarian options.

Plymouth/Maple Grove

I LOVED Ketnana's when it was in Richfield but i haven't had a chance to check out the Plymouth location. I've heard Plymouth location is just as wonderdful. I'd go there if I were you. Nothing but chain restaurants as far as you can see in MG.

What happened to Midtown Global Market?

There are condos in that building as well, that's probably where the dogs are coming from.....

What happened to Midtown Global Market?

I have to agree. I have never had a problem. I normally park in the ramp though and certainly have never had an issue walking from the ramp into the market. Buttersoy, are you saying you've seen panhandlers in this area or are you talking about walking in from somewhere else? I've even parked on the street a few times and gone in the other entrance and again, no issues. I am probably there 6 times a year. I've had mixed results on whether or not it's busy. I never know what to expect. I'm always afraid something else will be closed and I really want this place to work. It seems to do a lot better during the work week, during the day.

Gangchen closing?

Thanks annal! I was just wondering when that place was going to be open and if it would similar to Gangchen (which i loved). I can't wait to check it out...maybe tonight after work. I'll report back.

French Meadows- Sadly diminished

sandylc took the words right out of my mouth....underwhelmed. I have always thought everything there LOOKED good, but was nothing special. I wonder if their focus now is People's Organic? I actually like this place a little better, but still not impressed with the baked goods.
