What's NEW?
depends on your preference. everything is fresh and seasonal and changes accordingly. I also like their garlic french fries. Love the lamb. Love the fish dishes
What's NEW?
yes you certainly can go just to the bar and feel completely comfortable
What's NEW?
Ripple in Cleveland Park! its only been open for a month or so. a "must visit" food and wine spot.
Okay to share a bottle of sparkling wine at Mini Bar?
I need opinions from those of you who have been to the Mini Bar.
I have read about the wine flights for $40 per person
but what do you think about the two of us sharing a bottle of sparkling wine instead?
From your experiences - what have people done, other than the wine flights?
I love wine and love pairing food with wine - but for the following two reasons I am hoping my idea will fit in:
I want to focus on the food itself
and secondly, I dont feel the need to necessarily get inibriated
and thirdly, maybe the bill will be a "little" less!
Let me know your thoughts - but hurry - I am going this week.
Thanks!
Gaithersburg Eats?
I recommend Nicks ChopHouse as well. I dont really consider it a chophouse though.
They do have great steaks and other chops but there menu is anything but a typical chophouse menu. Rather, more of an American menu featuring steaks and chops with plenty of seafood and other alternatives. Good wine list.
Lunch Suggestions for Rockville/Gaithersburg Area?
You mentioned King Farm and Thai Farm. Have you tried Nicks down the street?
If you are looking for "quicker" tho, I would suggest sitting at the bar. I LOVE their burgers - and there fries are fresh cut. And I am pretty sure there is a chef's special which may change daily? I have enjoyed their soups which are made from scratch too. (Weather permitting, they have a patio, but I would definitely make a reservation ahead of time, especially if you are trying to get in and out fairly quickly).
One "destination" lunch in Arlington/ DC
Definitely RE (Heck, if you can make it to Bebo - you're more than halfway there)
Don't let the location keep you from going. You will be happy.
One "destination" lunch in Arlington/ DC
IF they even have in stock what you order!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (wine that is)
On two separate visits I had to give up on my first choice and second choice because they were "out" that day...................
DC visitor seeking special dinner - not Komi
I second Cafe Atlantico, Obelisk and Central.
Not sure if any will be closed though.
There is absolutely no need to even think about Corduroy. It is shabby and inside a hotel!
Romantic Dinner DC Area
Outings: too many for me to wrap my head around at the moment.
Hotel: One idea would be to stay at either the Holiday Inn-Rosslyn or the Key Bridge Marriott (I prefer H.I. and it has a nice pool too) - where you can ask for a room with a view. The view is of the Georgetown area and the Potomac.
You could then play in Georgetown easily - its right over the Key Bridge and within walking distance and/or there is a little GTown Connector Bus that is easily accessible.
For Dinner - I will start by saying "anything with a view will likely have crappy food" IMHO. So many picks after that - depends on the area and/or if you dont mind taxi etc.
Restaurant Eve is one of my favorites in Old Town (and not too far from Rosslyn, reallY)
or Komi (I have not been) in Dupont. If you will be a bit more specific (other than a view) maybe it would help everyone to suggest more appropriately.
Tabard Inn is a cozy place for a drink, lunch or brunch.
Hotel Washington has an amazing view from their roof top (for a drink) but it is not a place you would want to stay or have dinner.
Happy Anniversary!
Monterey Bay Fish Grotto?
Does anyone know if/when it is going to open??? I have seen the sign in the window in Tysons Corner forever!
Also - Has anyone been to their other one in Pittsburgh??
Restaurant Eve Recently?
P.S. type Restaurant Eve into the open window at the top right of the screen and you will see all of the posts. They are not necessarily in chronological order.
Restaurant Eve Recently?
Are you sure you checked well? There are many current posts - from 2006 and 2007 /or at least tag ons from earlier ones. You might see them, if you check again.
BUT - I for one, vote that things probably havent changed much.
It is a perfectly legitimate restaurant with very good food and very good service and a lovely environment.
Good Luck!
Tabard Inn-Brunch
whatever you get for brunch - you must save room for the donuts at the end.
They are really delicious.
I beleive I had quiche which was fine.
Breakfast & Dinner chow, Thomas Circle?
For a moderate dinner that is within walking distance and somewhere you would get a nice crowd, atmosphere - walk down M about 3 blocks (toward Georgetown) to The Daily Grill on Connecticut and M. (Connecticut Ave has quite a few cheap eats going toward Dupont Circle, all w/in walking distance) After dinner cross the street and go to Rumors for a drink. They have an outdoor patio too.
Food Finds around Tribeca
Thanks everyone!! We had breakfast at The Kitchenette - so cute. Drinks at The Brandy Library - highly recommend the place. Its a perfect place to meet someone and have a conversation. Wanted to go to Upstairs at Bouley and/or The Landmarc (hopefully next time), but ended up at The Kitchen in The Mercer (fabulous) further in town.
Also noted how beautiful City Hall is. And checked out Wichcraft for yummy sandwiches.
So much to do, so little time!
Food Finds around Tribeca
These are great. Thanks!!! I would love even more ideas!!! Please add if you have a minute!
Food Finds around Tribeca
3 Chowhounds visiting next week. Will be staying in Tribeca.
Please shout out your favorite food finds in the areas fairly close by.
We really want "good tasting food". Would prefer to hit more casual places than upscale.
Also interested in things like "the best cupcakes", "best place to pop in for a cocktail", etc.
Thanks tons!!!!
Neighborhood Rest. for New York Visitor - Arlington
OK Thanks ya'll. I will continue to give it a try and look forward to trying the scallops!
Neighborhood Rest. for New York Visitor - Arlington
As for Village Bistro: we badly wanted it to be our "neighborhood" go to place -
it is convenient (and Rosslyn doesnt have much to offer) -
BUT in our opinion, the prices are too high for what they offer and for the somewhat dreary atmosphere. The food is decent, the mussels excellent.
Are Mondays really bad? [moved from DC/Baltimore board]
Puttin my two cents in:
In MY opinion - the philosophy about restaurants not having fresh fish on Mondays - is old fashioned. Restaurants are not limited by their delivery days anymore as they perhaps were in the past. It does seem true that alot of Exec Chefs have Sun and sometimes Mondays off - but if it is a respectable kitchen, the Sous should be more than capable of handling everything. Hmmmmm How many Exec Chefs actually "cook" anyway???
Olives Restaurant reviews?
I am curious. Whats the scoop on Olives? Why do I never see anything written about it. Who knows what, please?
Dutch Market?
Several years ago I went to a Dutch or Amish Market in a shopping center in Gaithersburg where vendors sell everything from fresh chicken, homemade sausages, breads, etc.
I do not remember where it is, or its name. I have not had any success in trying to find information. Does anyone know what I am trying to find?
Kitchen Auctions
look for a link to rasmus auctions. they have a function to alert you of local auctions (restaurants closing, etc>)
New Job = New Lunch Places
Trader Joes maybe?
And for coffee, there is a Starbucks at 24th/M
Intimate Lunch Place
Why not have high tea? There are several places, Ritz, Mayflower, etc
you should be able to search chowhound with "tea Ritz" as search words and find more info on peoples ideas :)
Looking for restaurants in Gaithersburg/Rockville/Germantown area
They are one of the very few restaurants in the metro area that have Cold Water Lobster Tails - the chef does seafood specials as well.
