Best Chicken Salad? (cross-post from manhattan)

We had a good chicken salad sandwich on a choice of whole grain bread or white at the Root Hill Cafe, which is on the corner of 3rd Ave. adn Carroll. We also tried the tuna, but liked the chicken better.

Petit Marche

We made a res. for this Sunday. I'm not sure if that's because of Mother's Day, though.

Gangly Handful: Do you know if "Blue Seats" show s soccer games?

There's aplace on the corner of Court and Amity--they have several TV's w/large screens and a huge selection of beer.

Root Hill Cafe

Their muffins are from Blue Sky bakery on 5th and they are really the best muffins--Grumpy sells them too.

Sweet Melissa coffee -- pushing her luck

One thing I have always enjoyed there are the pots of home made herbal tea. I think they offer a spicy orange and spicy rasberry.

Petit Marche

Has anyone been there lately? We went last year and loved it--I heard they had new owners and was wondering if the food was as good as last year. Thanks

Ghenet Park Slope: a brief review

We went last weekend and really liked it as well. We got wet naps in the beginning of the meal and the end of the meal. Maybe they ran out when you went.

Coffee or tea shop near Union Square

Grumpy isn't too far--21st st between 7th and 8th. I love their muffins.

Root Hill Cafe

Yeah, you're right. But semantics aside, I still liked the place.

Root Hill Cafe

There is a new coffee place on the corner of 4th Ave. and Carroll st. called Root Hill Cafe. There's no sign identifying it (yet) but there is a painting of a coffee cup in the window.

I highly recommend the place--
--the coffee--We tried the latte and a cup of coffee and they were both fantastic. The crema on the latte was very rich and both cups had a strong yet flavorful taste.
--the small menu--from what I remember, they offer a small choice of salads and sandwiches--we got a chicken salad sandwich and a salad; the sandwich was served on chewy, thick WW bread that went really well w/the chicken. The salad was carrot w/toasted pumpkin seeds on red lettuce. The salad was quite nice, w/the pumpkin seeds adding a contrasting flavor.
--the servers--Everyone working there the 2 days I went were very friendly and informative.
--the ambience--Its a comfortable place w/lots of tables and chairs and loungy type areas . There were several people plugged into their computers. I sat there for about an hour, reading. It is def. designed by an architect--there are lots of beautiful touches including the furniture, the wonderful bathroom w/penny tile on the ceiling and walls and concrete floor w/marbles imbedded in it.

So check it out. Before it gets too crowded!

Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory

I would recommend "Blue Marble" on Atlantic. The ice cream there has nice, strong flavors, still creamy but the flavor comes through really deliciously. It's a new place, try it out!

New pizza place on Atlantic between Clinton and Henry

In the spot where La Bouillabase used to be, there is a license posted in the window indicating that a pizza place w/a back garden will be opening. Any one know anything?

Great Cup of Coffee

A new place called "joe" opened on 23rd off of 9th. I thought the coffee was really good.

Thanks for the suggestion. We went to Le Zie and loved it. I had the artichoke appetizer and the liver entree. My husband had the pork chop. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meal and will be back

Is that the place with no name or menu anywhere noticeable?

Looking for a good, inexpensive place for an early dinner on Saturday. As close as possible to this intersection. Thanks!

New to Carroll Gardens--need shopping recs.

Try Montague bagels. Not quite the neighborhood, but fresh made bagels, and worth the walk.

Best ever chicken (noodle) soup?

Has anyone tried the Chicken soup at the new 2nd AVe deli? It used to be wonderful in it's old location.

On Atlantic Ave. don't just stick to Sahadis. There are quite a few middle eastern food stores with incredible food. Close to Sahadis is Damascas and they sell fresh pita bread==all different varieties. Also lots of prepared food as well. Across from sahadis is the Oriental Grocery and they have wonderfull bulk stuff and great prepared food. It's not that I don't like Sahadis, I do, especially for Olive oil but the other stores are often given short shrift on this board and I think they are def. worth a visit. I think most of them offer better prepared foods then Sahadi's.

Best ever chicken (noodle) soup?

I agree--the chicken soup at Whole Foods is very tasty. But one caveat. It is not chicken noodle soup because it doesn't have noodles. That is a good thing because the noodles would get mushy.

Lunch around 66th and Broadway?

Any suggestions for a good, but preferably inexpensive lunch on a weekday? Any type of food is OK.
Thanks

Rubin Museum Cafe

Has anyone eaten there? How is it and how are the prices? It sounds intriguing-- supposedly they serve food "inspired by the food of the Himalayas."

Lucalli's: Closed tonight (Friday)

I called and Mark said they are closed tonight due to a problem with refrigeration and lost alot of dough (literally!) They will reopen tomorrow night.

Great NY Noodletown - great again...

We were there on Saturday and also enjoyed a good meal. The highlights were soup with shrimp dumplings and noodles, salt baked shrimp, sauteed baby bok choy and duck (not much meat.) Highly recommend it!

Anyone know where to buy almond bark?

They do have it and they are located on 22nd st. between 5th and 6th.

New Jim Lahey Pizza place

Near Red Hook Terminal?

I would recommend Waterfalls on Atlantic Ave. between Henry and Clinton. Great Middle Eastern food.
