Mochi??

I used to love Bubbies. I'm from the Boston area and looking high and low, there is only one store that I could find to carry them. I used to love them since they used real sugar. Now they use corn syrup. WTF? I eat the Trader Joe's version now because they use more natural ingredients. Also, they carry more flavor options, at least here in Provincial Boston.

Thai Yummieness Taro Pearls in Coconut Cream

I wish that Super 88 would carry it again. They are so weird. All of the S&P products are increadibly popular. They would sell out pretty quickly and the 88 was extremely lazy about restocking (or maybe they had trouble importing it), so I would just go back periodically to check to see if they got in a new shipment. They usually would restock it eventually. Now they seem to have just giving up ordering the stuff alltogether, as they haven't had anything from S&P since December. What's even weirder is that they haven't really put anything in the freezer to where the S&P products used to be. There used to be a "suggestion box" which no longer exists. I feel intimidated about inquiring at the courtesy booth as I don't speak Manderin or Cantonese. The cashiers all give off a "get in and get out" vibe, which I know isn't their fault, I'm sure that mgmt pushes them to work quickly as possible for maximum effeciency (which anyone shopping at Harvest Co op can apprecitate), but I feel too itimidated to ask, because I'm afraid either they will be like "why do you want to know, white girl?"

It is out of the way, but I'm sure that I will find myself in that area sooner or later since I know someone who lives in the area. You are the second person who told me to try Kam Man. Thank you for pointing me in the right direction. I will post if I find them. : ) You are correct about the consistency of it. Having tasted it and read the ingredients listing, it looks like they take concentrated taro (like the powder used for bubble tea), mix it with glutinous rice powder, cook it, and cut it up into cubes. The coconut cream sauce it the perfect complement (because it's frozen, it tastes much better than canned coconut- blek!) This dessert is really yummy, I reccommend you try it.

Help! New to Boston--Looking for Mochi, Soon Tofu, etc.

I've had really good mango with sticky rice at Thai kitchen, 2261 Massachusetts Ave., Cambridge. Their vegetarian delight isn't so bad either.

Does anyone know of any Asian Markets in the Boston area (hopefully on public transportation) that carry S & P frozen meals? I used to get the taro desserts all the time from Super 88 in Allston, but for some reason they suddenly stopped carrying them about 4 months ago. The Super 88 in Chinatown has never carried them as far as I know. C market in on Lincoln Street carries S&P meals, which is the manufacturer, but doesn't carry the taro dessert. The C Mart in Washington does not carry them at all as far as I can see. Dok Bua Thai restaurant has them for $5 a pop, but that gets expsensive as I LOVE the stuff. Anyone know where else I could buy it? Oh, "import" section of S&P's web site is useless.

S & P frozen desserts

So, if anyone can tell me where they have seen them in the Boston area or have personally ordered them on line, I'd greatly appreciate it. Peace out.

S & P frozen desserts

I've tried that, they don't deliver to the US. I've also e-mailed them several times to find out if they have a distributer in the US, but I still have not recieved a reply.

Here's my review of their desserts in decending order:
-Taro pearls in coconut cream - ***** The best!
-Gingko Nuts with Sweet Taro Mousse **** Not as good, but will eat when out of the above.
-(Ruam Mitur) Mixed Dessert ** Not horrible, not great.
-Durian in Coconut Cream * Absolutely horrible, thougth I was going to throw up.

Pearl Tea in Cambridge

Okay.... yuck yuck and yuck. The ONLY descent bubble tea I've had in the Boston area is at Boston Tea stop (and Dado, but it has problems). I had Lolicup twice and both times, my tea was so sweet, I ended up throwing it out because I couldn't stand it. Also, the taro tea I had a very slimy texture. I also tried the taro tea at the Porter exhange. Problem is, one has to pick a "tea base" to which they add things like taro. I chose black tea which was apparently very poor in quality since it was very bitter. The added taro didn't even taste like taro, it almost tasted minty. Dado tea is excellent, though the last time I went, I asked if I could have my taro tea hot. They said "no," even though they use hot water to dissolve the taro mix powder, it doesn't make any sense. So, I got my taro tea cold, I asked for extra powder since I like it strong. The end result that it was more watery than regular strenghth taro tea that I've purchaed in the past. This is after trying to get their attention for about ten minutes while they sat on the kitchen floor. I've never been served by anyone who didn't have high levels of THC in there blood. I wish that the service was better since the taro powder quality is quite excellent. The taro is even better than Tea Stop's, but Tea Stop is more consistant all around. They have excellent service and I've never been disappointed by anything I've ordered there.
