Breezychow, you should read this on the Egyptian Revolution: http://www.seriouseats.com/2011/02/egypt-revolution-cairo-tahrir-square-food-what-are-they-eating-koshary-feeding-a-revolution.html
Vegan-friendly food for a baby shower?
the brand most vegans prefer is earth balance.
Ultimate Lamb burger
That's how I like my lamb burgers too. Except on a toasted roll.
Follow the chef or the venue? (moved from Manhattan board)
I would try asking the wait staff or the bartender if they know where the chef went. They would probably tell you. I don't know if it's the same thing, but if I haven't seen a bartender or waiter around in awhile, I usually ask their colleagues where they are. They don't mind sharing the information.
Non-Korean getting jipped on the Panchan - how to handle?
I'm going to ask too, now. :)
Definition of Shepherd's Pie
i think you should take a look at the numbers in the USDA site and decide after reading. I think that it's staying as is, but you can always disagree.
Definition of Shepherd's Pie
Since now that we're talking about this, and me being a numbers loving analyst, I had to know.
According to USDA, we eat about less than a pound of lamb per year and it hasn't changed much in the last 25 years.
Not surprisingly, New Zealand eats the most pounds of lamb per year.
New Zealand 57; Australia 30; Saudi Arabia 27; Ireland 20; Bulgaria 15; (United States 0.8)

Definition of Shepherd's Pie
YES! There is one place that makes it properly and it makes me so happy! And it's so good too!! They also make steak & kidney pie! Now if they only have an Irish fry up breakfast....
When I see it on a menu at other restaurants, I always ask to confirm that it's lamb only to be disappointed to find out it's beef.
I actually think the US makes it with lamb because not all Americans like lamb, so they make it with beef to appease our palate.
Do you peel?
I don't think I've ever seen a hardy kiwi. I just googled it; very interesting. I want to try one now.
your favorite olive oil?
Is that available in the US?
I buy Olive Branch Olive Oil, a fair trade Palestinian olive oil available in the US that we order online.
Do you order a non dim sum dish during your dim sum meal to fill up stomach space? If so what is it?
A pregnant friend was not happy until we got her beef pan fried noodles and a roast pork fried rice. The smell of: seafood (in the siu mai, the clams in black bean sauce, the shrimp noodle rolls, etc), the turnip cakes, the meatballs was not doing it for her. She wasn't used to it and no way am I arguing with a pregnant lady.
Anytime I bring a first time dim-sum partaker, it's always a little more tricky, so I get safety foods.

Oh and I use "speak Mandarin" very loosely. We're talking US raised, don't read, can't write my own name, US born, speaking Mandarin.

I usually get a wet beef chow fun or a beef pan fried noodles and a chinese broccoli because someone inevitably will crave it. Or someone will realize that they don't like dim sum.

I thought fan tong was mandarin? Only because I speak Mandarin, not Cantonese.
Upper West side for 11 people this Friday?
I really like their desserts. Their coconut cake is my favorite.
I need to shave ... or, why I'm making braised pig's feet
If you want to burn them off, couldn't you use the long lighter sticks? How do you burn it off over the gas stove?
Things we enjoy uncooked (that we probably shouldn't)
ramen noodles, dry, straight from the bag. does that count? i know its cooked but it not intended to be eaten that way.
It's Superbowl Time...
I volunteered to bring tater tots with the works: crumbled bacon, cheese, sour cream, guacamole, jalapenos. very excited....
Beer places in Manhattan
See I find the opposite with Stag's. It's still my favorite after work place in the neighborhood, but I don't get steered in the right direction as much anymore. But then again I am very particular (probably even peculiar) about my beers. Best burgers and spicy fries though.
Beer places in Manhattan
Stag's Head (and its predecessor) has a great rotating selection. They've changed a lot over the years though. When they were CB Six, the bartenders were much more knowledgeable. Recently, I've noticed stickered on taps they have little "cheat sheets" on what each beer is.

Bundt Pans - Your best tips and recipes!

$1.50 per person surcharge for Healthcare added to your bill....WHAT?!?!

Dumb Diners -- Maybe even YOU?
Ice cream!
We once went out for sushi, and my 2 year old niece saw us all dipping our food in the soy-wasabi mix. She took her bread and did the same thing before we could stop her! She cried and cried. Thankfully the wait staff was kind. After realizing what had happened, they brought out some ice cream which not only soothed her burning mouth but calmed her down.
Meatless Mondays
