Wine tasting in Sicily and Campania

I will be traveling to Sicily and Campania, and would love some reccomendations for wineries with public tasting rooms. Thank you.

Looking for Encino restaurants - no chains or sushi

Starving for good, original restaurants in Encino area. Tired of sushi, Persian, and chains. Please help!

Pomegranate Molasses ....

Yes, Surfas has it, as well as any middle eastern grocery store. I bet World Market on Abbot Kinney has it too. Also, Top Valu on Inglewood Blvd neat Braddock probably has it - they are owned by a middle easterner and carry lots of meddle eastern products.

Fatted Calf type charcuterie shop in LA

I believe Cubo on La Brea serves Fatted Calf

Susie Cakes in Brentwood

the Whoopie Pie is pretty big, though. Try the chocolate cupcakes and cake. The chocolate cake is soft, fluffy, and very moist.

How is the food at The 3rd Stop?

Has anyone been to The 3rd Stop?

Wine bars that host parties -- anyone?

Bottle Rock in Culve City is available for parties. http://bottlerock.net/

K-ZO in Culver City - anyone tried their prix fixe dinners?

I had a terrific Japanese lunch today at the brand new K-ZO in Culver City, next to Trader Joe's on Culver Blvd. It has a very sleek, modern interior, with a bar up front for dining and drinks, about 15 tables, and a sushi bar in the rear. There is also one private booth, tucked away behind a curtain of metal beads. They offer all the usual sushi, along with some special rolls like the one I had - popcorn shrimp and asparagus ($7).

It was great, but I really did not need it, my combo plate was more than enough food. I ordered the Salmon Shioyaki combo: grilled salmon with a choice of sushi (6 pcs.), tempura, or sashimi ($15.50). I picked the sushi. It also came with creamy purple mashed potatoes, micro shoestring fries, miso soup, rice, and salad with carrot vinaigrette.

This was plenty of food for me, but I can see other people (especially men), needing some sushi or a side dish to fill up on. They offer daily specials, salads (salmon skin salad, spicy calamari salad...), hot and cold small plates (monk fish liver, sashimi, soft shell crab...), entrees (tempura, teriyaki, sushi assortments, noodles...), and combo plates. Beautiful presentation, swift, attentive service, and excellent food. I cannot wait to go back with a group of friends to share many dishes with from their extensive menu, or try one of thier prix fixe dinners. Check my blog for the photos.

Marina del Rey/Venice area: Group of 10 for drinks/appetizers?

Beechwood on Washington Blvd @ Abbot Kinney. Large lounge/bar area, and large outdoor patio. They have a bar menu and regular menu, both available at the bar.

PETRELLI'S steak House in culver city ? ANY GOOD?

I believe it is Petrelli, and I have head it is mediocre. My frined has a penchant for identifying previously frozen meat, and she detected it there. My brother dug the bar scene, though.

food on westside -- healthy eater on strict diet

Tender Greens in Culver City. They basically serve (really good) salads with protein.

The Lobster

The lobster salad app is pretty good and the crab dip as well. Although, I would not want to share it! The apps are way better than the mains.

beechwood on venice

The food is pretty good. Stick to the longue/bar area - much more pleasant the the dining room. You can still order the full menu. Thier steak frites are pretty as, as are the lamb meatballs. Go early, it tends to get very crowded.

The best restaurants in SLO?

I will be there next Thursday (I know about the BBQ at the farmer's market), what are some of the better restaurants in town?

Eats around LACMA

Try Luna Park on La breas and Wilshire.

The "Sloppy Joe" Sandwich???

There is a new restaurant in LA dling a new kind of sloppy joe - rabbit. Check out the photo on my blog:

Mama Voula's or Papadakis?

I think you are right. It was better than filo! But still, the rest of the meal was only so-so. And don't forget to bring in your own alcohol.

Tender Greens in Downtown Culver City

My friends and I were there for dinner a couple days ago and we asked one of the owners how many covers they do a day, he said 600-700! That's pretty amazing for a brand new place.

Mama Voula's or Papadakis?

I went to Mama's Voula's once - it was mediocre. Overly salted hummus, and the Spanikopita was not even made with phyllo dough - it was more like a puff pastry.

Best Coffee in LA?

The Conservatory of Coffee in Culver City on Washigton Blvd, across from Sony. They roast their own beans - excellent espresso.

How can you prevent peolpe form tracking you?

A place for Great Cocktails

Lucques on Melrose always has excellent cocktails. There are no blenders, no sweet and sour mix from a bottle - everything is handmade to order. It is relaxed and classy without the attitude.

Manhattan Beach - A culinary wasteland?

Their menu changes monthly, but they usually have a foie gras dish on the menu that is great.

Ugo in Westwood

The quattro formaggi pizza is excellent. Try their new location in Culver City - they have ample outdoor seating.

Tender Greens in Downtown Culver City

I was there last night, and they we packed. But our food was fabulous. I had the chicken hot plate, and the Yukon Gold mashed potatoes were wonderful. they have since added "order here" stickers to the glass - much needed.

Susiecakes now open

I had the whoopie pie too. I loved it - the chocolate cookie was soft and chewy, it was just too big. Check out my photos of Susiecakes:

Best burger in Santa Monica besides Father's Office?

Houston's in Santa Monica has the California Burger, jack cheese, avocado, red onion. and mustard. Fabulous.

Howard's Bacon & Avacado

My friend went there twice - both times a mediocre burger and unfriendly service.

Marina Del Rey for group of 8?

The Marina restaurant scene is pretty mediocre, unfortunately. I would go to 12 Washington (that is the name and address). French cuisine, right at the beach.
