Mondo (Middletown, CT) - you've gotta try a pizza here!

I have been meaning to start a thread on this place! I too had the same coupon and have been back twice now. We love this place. The Toscana salad is very similar to the one at max amores, the fig/arugala flatbread was unbelievable. My kiddos got the cheese calzone and my husband and I were not able to keep our hands away from it. The prosciutto panini was good but I would stick to the flatbreads and calzone next time!

anyone try Taste of Hartford yet?

Went to peppercorns last night. Good, not amazing ! arancini - so so lacked flavor , Ossobucco very good. lasagna looked extremely ordinary as did the lobster ravioli but I did not taste either. crisp for dessert wa sgood but not memorable. All in all great value for a good meal. We are looking foward to Cassona next.

Hanafin's Pub in Glastonbury CT

Funny you mention the dissappearance of Smithwicks on the Max menu. My biggest gripe about the Max chain is there dismal draft and bottle selection. I wish they would pay half as much attention to the beer list as they do to their wine list.

Hanafin's Pub in Glastonbury CT

Ahh you got me on the Kilkenny! A weakness for me ...guess I will be heading there real soon

Hanafin's Pub in Glastonbury CT

Thankyou for the feedback! while plan B is not cheap, I can still get a great pint of great quality beer like Arrogant Bastard Ale for around $5. Whats the draft list like at Hanafins? Any standout offerings?

Rooftop 120, Glastonbury, CT

Thanks for the update as this place has been on the radar. Still looking foward to the Irish pub opening. Has anyone heard of any recent developments?

Winters Bourbon Cask Ale- Annheiser busch

So i posted this all the way back in January and now it is April. I still had not found this cask ale anywhere in my limited travels. I walk up the street, .02 miles from my home, literally a stone throws away and what to my astonishment do I find. an entire case of it. better yet it was on clearance as they were trying to clear it out for spring. Amazing!!!!

Best Vietnamese restaurant in Hartford area

I adore pho 88 on park street in Hartford. Not so much for the pho as for the Bun and Ben xeo (sp?). I found out about this place from the people at Pho 501 in East Hartford when I asked where there favorite non pho joints were. Le's in East Hartford enjoys much praise but i am not a huge fan. Of course pho 501 in east hartford is the go to place for pho and fresh rolls.

Plan B Burger Bar/Milford? - Ct.

The main reason I go to plan B is for the beer list! One of the best in the area and constantly changing. There is always a great selection. I wish some other local establishments would follow suit. I might enjoy Max restaurants more often if they would up their game in the beer department. Their beer offerings are completely inadequate. one great beer with a decent burger is nirvana.

Winters Bourbon Cask Ale- Annheiser busch

Hmm so that's strange because during the shamu show tonight they referenced annheiser busch as a partnerin conservation or something but clearly mentioned A -B. And unfortunately the parks only seem to carry Bud, b light , and lime etc.

Winters Bourbon Cask Ale- Annheiser busch

Was at discovery cove today and it was all budweiser products and the sinks had the a-b in scripted on the faucets. Hmm so now I am wondering. Guess I have some googling to do.

Winters Bourbon Cask Ale- Annheiser busch

Great news! I am in ct so I may just start calling around and head up to Ma for a beer run. I certainly would like to get my hands on some, I was at the blues brew and barbecue this weekend at sea world and it was not there which given the a-busch relationship I thought I may get lucky. Unfortunately there were no standouts of the sixty brews they offered! At least nothing that I was impressed by!

Winters Bourbon Cask Ale- Annheiser busch

Thanks for filling me in! So i guess it does not look good for me trying to snag a couple of cases :( Go figure

Winters Bourbon Cask Ale- Annheiser busch

Ahh glad to hear you enjoy it as well! I think just putting the words Annheiser Busch (sp) on the post deterred people from checking it out. But hey I cant argue with my palate, I think it is great! Do you know if they bottle and distribute it? Obviously I had it from a keg and not had a chance to get to a package store recently to try and find it.

Winters Bourbon Cask Ale- Annheiser busch

Attended the mohegan sun wineferst this past weekend (do not judge me, free tickets meant free mediocre beer, not a BAD deal!) anyways, between the kegs for Shocktop and landshark was this winter cask ale. I was not very hopeful but to my surprise I was pleasantly surprised. When my face lit up with surprise the distributor said "hey we have a ton of money so we can make anything we want" gotta say I am glad they are starting to put their funds to some good use.
Has anyone else out thee tried it and if so what where your thoughts

I want to enjoy beer, but I don't. Can you help me?

Totally agree with Josh about skipping the Lindemanns etc. as it seems it would be too sweet for your palate. I know it is for mine.

Growlers a good choice for cocktail party?

I love a fresh growler as much as anyone, however I find one of the best fringe benefits of a cocktail party is having some great beer selections leftover. Dinner parties are a great excuse for me to stock up on a wide variety of our faves and then hope some will be left for our pleasure for weeks to come. With growlers you loose that benefit .
Also, some local beers are served in growlers only at package stores. For instance my fave is dirty penny ale. I only can get this at whole foods or a package store and it is only available in growlers. These will keep much longer if unopened than fresh filled growlers from a tap.

CWs Chops n' Catch!

Just wondering if anyone has been yet and what they thought. I love Pastami on Wry and dream about their potato salad. Corey Wry also owns Catsup and Mustard which I also have not tried yet. If any one beats me to it please post your thoughts! Thanks

Any good donuts in the Hartford, CT area?

while you are selecting the beautiful donuts make sure you put in an order for his amazing sandwiches. So far everyone has been great. (Pastrami, cuban, cheese steak)

La Estrella Bakery, Park Street, Hartford

Oh and that reminds me....stale portugese bread from estrella makes for a mighty tasty french toast or bread pudding.

La Estrella Bakery, Park Street, Hartford

Funny you say that about the bread getting stale, because that is exactly why I have not gone back there. I must have hit it on an off day and the bread seemed stale at the bakery. I guess I will have to try it again in hopes to get a fresh loaf.

Where's the best bowl of pho in southern NE.?

Thankyou for the heads up. I will attempt to get there tommorrow to try it out. Did you have anything other than the pho?

Gyro Palace-West Hartford, CT YUM!

I have to agree with Macsha, While i enjoyed the sandwich it was not at all what I was expecting. Not only was there no lamb but the seasonings were also missing. Take it for what it is ....; a good sandwich, but not a great gyro! I am also not that impressed with the ones at Tangiers either. I am still looking and hoping but till then I will continue to head to Astoria Ny for a fix.

Old Cider Mill - Glastonbury

the old cider mill does not have much anymore . the people who used to lease the space there (and did a great job) are now at Robbs farm. Belltown is without a doubt the best in glastonbury!

Where is the love for Macuucis in portland??

I guess I shold get the name right first before I post! That must be the reason that when I searched for some input on it on Chowhound nothing came up. Thanks for clarifying and 3hours away now and would trek up their just for a luna roll and a "slab"

Northampton -- What not to miss?

I Love the Peoples Pint (Greenfield). Not at all fancy but good solid food. The farmer Brown Ale is amazing. I dont know what it is about that place but I have visited tons of breweries and beer bars and something about Peoples Pint that just makes me feel so comfortable and HAPPY! It could be that Farmer Brown Ale.

Where is the love for Macuucis in portland??

I was in the Portland area for the past few weeks and did alot of visits to breweries, bakeries and quick service meals. I tried many of the well mentioned one one the boards and was very pleased. While visiting Two Fat Cats i decided to drop in to Macuccis to have a look around. Best thing I did! The pizza in the back that everyone is waiting in line about 20 minutes for is awesome! I am surprised to not hear more talk of it on chowhound. I have a feeling people are trying to keep this secret to themselves as to not increase the wait time in line. 1 "slab" square (good for 2 children or 1 adult ) goes for about $4.50. also they make incredible rolls that when they come out hot you need to sprinkle the parm cheese on that they leave on the counter and you have a great snack! Sorry folks the secret is out!

Help -- Bubble Tea or Chinese Bakeries in Connecticut?

I prefer the bubble tea at the asian grocer that is in the Walmart/ Marshalls plaza in west Hartford Flatbush avenue area. The thing is I may just like that they have coconut there and Pho Boston does not.
