Best Peruvian Chicken/Pollo Alla Brasa in Brooklyn?

Thanks everyone! I'm excited to hear that there are a few good potential options out there. Looking forward to trying them all when we get to town next month!

Best Peruvian Chicken/Pollo Alla Brasa in Brooklyn?

Hi everyone. My wife and I are moving from Baltimore to Carroll Gardens and will be sorely missing our favorite little Peruvian chicken joint.

There seems to be a lot of good options up in Queens - are there any good places for Peruvian Chicken in Brooklyn? We'll have a car, so it doesn't necessarily have to be right on the train.

Good Sunday brunch buffet in Baltimore area?

Does anyone know of a place that does a nice Sunday brunch in the Baltimore area for a brunch with mom and grandmother? County is fine if there's nowhere in the city. I used to like the one at the Admiral Fell Inn, but I don't think they still do theirs.

Any help would be hugely appreciated.

Best BBQ along Skyline Drive in Virginia?

Hmm. I didn't realize it was so much slower than 81. Any idea how much longer it would take to get from DC to Asheville on skyline drive? If it's only an hour, I'll take that trade off, but much more than that, I'll take the faster uglier route!

Best BBQ along Skyline Drive in Virginia?

I'm headed to Asheville, so western NC places would be great! Thank you!

Best BBQ along Skyline Drive in Virginia?

Thanks! If you know a good one in NC, I'll take that too. If I can get myself out of bed early enough I might be able to get that far for lunch. Or I'll need some BBQ on the way home too!

Best BBQ along Skyline Drive in Virginia?

I'll be driving from Maryland to NC on Friday and was hoping to stop at a good BBQ place for lunch along the way. If I can get on the road early, I think lunchtime is going to fall somewhere between Staunton and Blacksburg.

One requirement: I need to be able to get it for takeout.

Any favorites would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Lunch in Shem Creek - Red's vs. Vickery's vs Shem Creek Bar & Grill

Looking for a low-key lunch outside on a deck overlooking the water in the Shem Creek/Mt. Pleasant area. Preferably with a nice cold beverage or three.

Seems like the options that fit the bill are Red's, Vickery's and Shem Creek Bar and Grill.

Which one is best?

Where to get wood chunks for a BBQ smoker in Baltimore?

This is great! Thanks everyone!

Where to get wood chunks for a BBQ smoker in Baltimore?

I just got a Weber Smokey Mountain BBQ smoker. Anyone know of a good place to get wood chunks for smoking in it? I've seen hickory chips at the Home Depot out by Bayview, but no other varieties, and only bags in chip form. I'd rather get them locally than ordering off the web if possible. Thanks in advance!

Lunch in Loop/Lincoln Park/Old Town-ish area

I'm coming to Chicago from Baltimore for the weekend and I'm looking for a good, not too expensive (no more than a $25-30 lunch tab) lunch place vaguely close to the corner of State and Division. I don't mind walking a little ways, so if it's 10 blocks away, it's no big deal. No mexican or pizza, cause I'm having those on Saturday. Anything else is fair game.

Help for a Baltimore hound 5 days in Phoenix/Scottsdale

I'll be in Phoenix for a work trip and would love some recommendations. We'll probably have two or so price is no object dinners as a group (6 or so people), and I might have a chance to sneak out and grab breakfast and lunch on my own. So I'd love a few "fancy-shmancy best place in town" kinds of places and a few hidden gems for breakfast and lunch for myself. I'd like at least one of the latter to be mexican and/or Southwest cuisine, since this will be my first trip to the region.

Thanks everyone!

San Diego - one dinner to impress

I'll be in San Diego for work next week and I'm in charge of picking a new, incredible mind blowingly amazing fancy and delicious dinner for my group.

On previous visits we've been to George's at the Cove, The Marine Room, Jack's La Jolla, El Biz, and Mille Fleurs.

I've bookmarked the following restaurants as possibilities. Which would be best? (Or are there are any that I've missed?)

Kooper's Burger Truck?!?!?!?!!??!!?

I saw the folks at Kooper's Tavern loading up a shiny new burger truck this morning. Does anyone know anything about this? Where does it park? Does it have a schedule? I'm thrilled that Baltimore is getting in on the food truck trend. Very exciting new development.

New Addition at JFX Farmers Market?

They told us this was their first week at the market. I cooked a swordfish steak from them last night and it was pretty terrific. Very happy about this addition to the market.

Sampsons Soul Food, 353 N. Calvert, Baltimore

Don't waste your time. I tried Sampson's for lunch. It was dreadful on all fronts.

The service was so slow and confused, we wondered if they'd just opened yesterday. (They didn't. They've been open for 3 months.) It took 25 minutes to complete our order, which, by all means should have taken 5. Especially as there were no other customers in the store.

After ordering a few things from the menu and being told they were out of them, we ended up sharing the ribs platter and the fish sub.

The food in the "steam trays" was then taken into the kitchen and appeared to be microwaved to order.

The fish sub tasted like a frozen fish stick wrapped in a giant sub roll. Or a McFish that was stingy on the fish and generous on the bread. The melted american cheese was the highlight of the sandwich.

The ribs were mediocre. The collards were oversalted. The yams were overly sweet (and quite possibly straight from the can).

This place was bad middle school cafeteria food at best.

Ordinarily I'd give the benefit of the doubt that maybe it was an off day, but imho, Sampson's didn't show any promise that any other day would be on. This soul food just had no soul.

Pasta Mista in Canton?

Tried it for the first time tonight. A slice of cheese, a slice of chicken parm pizza and a side salad. The salad was pretty underwhelming (mostly iceberg) but both slices were a joy. The slices are generously sized and the crusts stay perfectly crispy. I was excited when Py opened up, but I've gotta say, I think I prefer Pasta Mista.

Bernie's Southern Bistro Portland - What did I drink?`

I had a killer cocktail at Bernie's Southern Bistro a few months ago and like a knucklehead forgot to write down what was in it. It was a lemonade with (I think) vanilla vodka and maybe something else. Does anyone know this drink? Do you know what it was called and what was in it? I want to try to reproduce it at home but for the life of me I can't remember what was in there.

FINALLY! A snowball stand in Canton.

I was pleasantly surprised to find a brand spankin new snowball stand parked at the corner of Boston and Kenwood streets tonight. The store is right by the Blockbuster on the Tindeco Wharf side of the parking lot. It has been open for two days. There's a pretty good selection of flavors, and the obligatory marshmallow goop topping.

Now if only they'd put in a Realtor or a haircut place on Canton Square somewhere...

Anniversary dinner recs in St. Michaels/Easton?

I actually ate at Scossa last summer on my trip to the area. It was some of the best pasta I've had in the states. We'll be going there for lunch for sure.

Anniversary dinner recs in St. Michaels/Easton?

I think I've narrowed the field to 208 Talbot, Bistro St. Michaels and the Inn at Easton, although I'm open to other recs if I've missed a good one. Does anyone know which option is best for food and romance?

Thyme Sorbet - Help!!!!!

I had a life-altering thyme sorbet at Tom Coliccio's Craft restaurant in LA a few months back. I've been scouring the interweb for a recipe ever since and, honest-to-Google, I just can't find a recipe anywhere. There are some for lemon thyme sorbet, but none that are just straight thyme.

Can anyone help? I'm dying to repeat the experience for my lovely girlfriend, who couldn't join me for the trip

Places to study/drink coffee in Baltimore

I like the Fells Point Daily Grind and Bluehouse in the Harbor East Area and Koffee Therapy in Mount Vernon for getting work done. The Canton Daily Grind is nice if you sit outside. It's a little obnoxious inside.

New Canton Restaurant - Sauté?

I haven't eaten there since they opened, but there was a sign for valet parking outside the other night. Which leads me to believe that they are still one very, very confused puppy.

Canton Square

I don't know anything about it although it stayed open while they were painting it and changing the sign, which leads me to think that it might be the same ownership as Granite?

Need a Latte help with Baltimore coffee.

I LOVE the space at Koffee Therapy, but the coffees that I've had there have been pretty so-so.
