Two recipes I can't track down

So... just to be certain... it wasn't the cabbage, potato, and leek soup in the cabbage feature in March?

Zeppole Reco's....anybody?

Ooh thanks for posting. I didn't even consider Alimento.

100 Foods to Eat Before You Die - Toronto/GTA Edition

69. George actually has a summer berry pavlova as part of their lunch tasting menu right now.

Sweet potato salad

I usually eat it at room temperature where the flavours are a bit better but I have done cold and it's still ok (leftovers right from the fridge). I kind of like cold roasted sweet potatoes though!

Sweet potato salad

My version is a little sweet, almost a dessert really, but I love it... roasted sweet potato, dried cranberries, chopped rosemary, chevre, pepitas, black pepper, and an olive oil and maple syrup (just a tiny bit) dressing.

Potato Chip Afficionado

I miss those O'Grady's cheddar chips too. Ruffles came out with a thick-cut cheddar chip awhile ago (not sure if it's still around or not) but it didn't compare with the memory of the O'Grady's.

Potato salad secrets?

My "secret" ingredients are finely diced caramelized onion (rather than raw), lots of good crispy bacon, and chives to garnish.

Where to buy *flour* based tortilla chips?

Not located in Texas, but I do know of a brand of fried flour tortilla chips:

http://www.gringojacks.com/Chips.html

They were available here in Toronto for awhile so they might be somewhere there as well, but you can, at least, order them online.

President's Choice Black Label

I found a little extra cooked bacon crumbled in fixes the PC bacon marmelade into something quite delicious if you're so inclined.

Italian Food magazines

If you're looking for something central there is (was? it's been awhile) a place in the Chin building on College St. near Grace that has a selection of Italian magazines. Presse Internazionale I think? I'm sure I've bought Cucina (in Italian) there.

2012 Food and Restaurant CHANGES and CLOSINGS

Anyone hoping to try a Taste of Tandooree at Queen and Dufferin is now out of luck. (Or maybe lucky, depending on how you see things.)

Toronto with young children ???

The blue chip truck parked outside of city hall on Queen is about 8 small blocks away from there (just east of York St.) and has satisfying straight-ahead poutine if the weather is nice and you don't mind eating outside. I don't know if their fries are crisp though.

Buttercream Icing Cakes - Bakery

My favourite sweet american-style iced cake in Toronto is still at Yummy Stuff on Queen W. I am more familiar with their chocolate buttercream (which I love) but they sell cupcakes as well if you wanted to take a test drive.

I also love PG but as mentioned they don't do full cakes.

Bourdain [moved from Houston]

^ 'nerd' nerd ;)

Things that don't taste like you expected they would...

Looks like I'm now officially working in some super-dark chocolate at every meal as part of my diet plan ;)

Things that don't taste like you expected they would...

I loooooved arugula the first time I had it because it was peppery and bitter, but the try after that just tasted like unpleasant lettuce. I think the taste of arugula changes a LOT from bunch to bunch. I read somewhere that the pepperiness increases the later you harvest it.

Cheeses from the Charlevoix

Oh no-- I'm so sorry!

Lucky Peach magazine

I don't think issue #3 is due in stores until March 13th so it's still nice + early yet. I imagine they are doing everything they can to avoid the delivery problems for subscribers they experienced for issue #2.

What non-food/non-traditional food items did you eat as a kid?

Ah, the age-old dilemma of not being able to have one's blankie and eat it too.

Cheeses from the Charlevoix

They are open again now.

Cheeses from the Charlevoix

I think A Taste of Quebec in the distillery district should have what you're looking for.

"Restaurants" Database To Be Eliminated

The effort you and others on the Ontario board put into linking restaurants in threads is a big reason I find CH so helpful--thank you. With a number of restaurants being a pain to Google (because of generic names, for example) this provides a way to find out what else has been said about a particular place and really make the most of the Chowhound discussions.

Grand Electric

Well, if you only want to wait for 30 minutes :)

Your entire party has to be there when you get to the front of the line as well or you won't be seated.

What Are the World's Chilehead Pilgrimage Sites?

Apparently the hottest pepper was recently found in Trinidad... the moruga scorpion:

Adults that have been "sheltered" from cooking?

I have a friend's father who feeds himself similarly. One thing that we managed to add to his repertoire (because upping the veg intake was a must and salads were out of the question) was a simple one-pan stir-fry. We bought him a wok, oil, and low-sodium soy sauce. Over the course of a weekend my friend (also a male, I think this helped) took him to the grocery store with a list of ingredients (things that were already familiar to him) and showed him how to make three simple dishes. We stocked his freezer with frozen vegetables and I am pretty sure he does use the wok at least once a week now. We are so proud :)

3. You can get alligator at Big Daddy's on King. It's the only place I've had it so I can't tell you how it compares.

Any memories of "poor people food" from your childhood that you still crave?

This is mine too--macaroni and canned tomatoes--but baked in a casserole dish with crushed up saltines on top for a crunch. Now that I'm "rich" (haha) I make it with meat sauce instead of just tomatoes.

Soup Nutsy?

That thickness of their creamy soups puts me off too. I haven't tried all that many, but the beef stroganoff soup has a similar consistency to the peanut chicken one. I do tag along with coworkers when I'm feeling like clam chowder though--it's still super thick but I don't mind it in clam chowder.

Considering the price, (in the path) I'd rather go to Oasis for whatever their daily soup is, or even Longo's.

Best Doughnuts in Toronto

'Coffee and Clothes' a.k.a. 'Lost and Found' at 1255 Dundas St. W, I think?

#36 you can get fried catfish at Harlem. You can remove the "RIP" (for now anyway) from the Real Jerk at #54. For #67, personally, I'd probably hit up Ghandi for a saag paneer roti, though I'm sure there are better examples for paneer fans (I am not one). And #97, as Dr. John mentioned, I'd get an umeboshi onigiri from Sanko.
