Kroger Private Selection

I have yet to try any frozen items, but am hooked on one of their salsas....New Mexican Hot Chile...or something like that. And I am a total fresh salsa snob. Also, this past weekend I picked up a box of praline shortbread cookies and they were delicious. Totally crumbled from the butter and with little crunches of praline. It seems I may have had an ice cream that wasn't all that great, but think it was an odd flavor....like too much going on, as another poster mentioned. I will def look for the lasagnas and croissants. I am surprised they don't have a bigger web presence for these products.

What is the best dip you ever had and the recipe?

I googled "best party dip" and this came up. Yowza! It's true, the party guests ate this UP. And it was sort of a fancy party with high-end cheeses, "whole" snacks, etc. - but when folks are drinking on a Saturday afternoon, this is the bowl that get licked clean. Making for another party today! Oh, and I used the tip from one of the comments to add blue cheese along with the cheddar...as well as a mixture of ranch & blue cheese dip. Thanks!

Chinese-Indian Food?

We have one in Atlanta called Bamboo Gardens, and let me tell you, it is goooood. They have this spicy, crispy baby corn appetizer that is out of this world, as well as a dish called "Burnt Garlic Chili Fried Rice", and yes, it contains bits of flash-seared garlic and chilis that create a crazy, chewy, crispy juxtaposition to the other veggies (and shrimp, for me)...

Serving gravy over crispy fried stuff - why?

Biscuit and gravy is one of my favorite dishes (my own, though...never had any better at a restaurant), so I don't really mind the sogginess...I do love a thin, crispy biscuit which can usually stand up to the gravy. I do kinda get it with the country fried meats, although it doesn't bother me personally. HOWEVER, totally agree about tempura being anywhere NEAR a liquid.. Never, ever!!!

Southern Cookin'

Harf! Will, I agree...I was not understanding the biscuit/gravy/soggy argument, but I think you nailed it. It never sits around long enough to get soggy. Both of my grandmas made those thin, crispy, "bumpy", tangy buttermilk biscuits and I can NOT replicate them no matter how I try. I must say, though, I have got gravy DOWN and can make just about any variety. My faves are just plain milk gravy made with butter, flour, salt, pepper & milk...or tomato gravy made with bacon drippings. It's a simple, poor-folk food that I crave a lot in between all the trips to trendy restaurants. And my one grandma would just eat biscuit & gravy for dinner every night in her old age - and lived to her mid 90's!

Searching for best store bought salsas

I prefer homemade salsa and make it all the time, but every once in a while, I gotta have my Herdez! I like the medium or hot in the jar, but will also sometimes get the small cans of their salsa casera, tomatillo and ranchero and mix them up (only a bit of the ranchero, as it's quite smoky and intense). I was kind of surprised I did not like GMG, as lots of chowhounders have always sung it's praise. It just tasted like another flat, ketchupy salsa. Another good one that was discontinued a few years ago was Tostitos Restaurant Style salsa...tasted very similar to Herdez.
