Lyonola's Profile
Bachelor Party Dining
It is a bachelor party. Go to Rick's Sporting Saloon, a sports bar/strip club on Bourbon. Two birds, one stone.
Bachelor Party Dining
Go to La Boca. They have a special group dinner meal where they feed you a ridiculous amount of very high quality beef for around $50 a head (there are other menus as well). Trust me on this. Call now and get a reservation. Everywhere else will be a disappointment for what you are looking for.
No need to go to Galatoire's if you are going to sit upstairs (which is where the private rooms are).

New Orleans Trip Report! Big Mistake…………….
The best combination of roast beef and _____ is panned chicken and roast beef gravy (with some debris). Simply outstanding and messy deliciousness. Hairlcon, I was at August last Friday for lunch as well. That 3 course, 20 dollar menu is by far the best value, high culinary lunch in the city. Multiple choices for each course and refined plating. Will be going many times, luckily its down the street from my office. You though are welcome to return and visit anytime.
Best place for "Guys Night"
Last few group meals at Arnauds have been complete duds. I think that place needs another reworking. Cold food, horrible service. Two things stand out.
Ordered Chicken Pontalba. It arrives with no brabant potatoes. "Where are the potatoes?" "That dish doesn't have brabant potatoes," waiter says. "It says so on your menu." "Ohh well, not tonight."
The waiter plopped down what was referred to as Creme Brulee on the menu. Underneath the shell was simply Cool Whip. When I asked the waiter if this was Cool Whip with caramelized sugar, he responded, "yes, kitchen backed up and most people prefer it that way."
Steer clear of Arnaud's.
Monday lunch
St. James sells wine and beer now. Would also look at Boucherie for lunch.
New Orleans Foodies need help deciding on best Caribbean Resort experience
Beso,
New Orleans Foodie heading to St. Barth's this weekend. What are some places to go? All suggestions welcome from fine dining to beach shack.
Where would you refuse to eat in NOLA even if your brother in law was paying?
Gautreau's in my opinion has been spectacular with Chef Zemanick at the helm. Anything with crispy skin, confit, chicken, even the fish is not to be missed. Just a charming restaurant.
Would gladly spend not only b-i-l's money, but mine.
Lunch after Abita Brewery tour
In this last week's Gambit Ian McNulty talks about all the places to eat and drink along the Abita Trace. Pick up a copy or check it online.
Best Veg-friendly options in NOLA
Green Goddess. Very vege friendly, even has a vegetarian tasting menu. Along with non vege foods. Go there.

Well if you tell the cabbie to take Claiborne back to the quarter, I bet it would run you $20-25 tops...

Re: parking at boucherie. Last time I was in that neck, they had constructed a fence across the opening to the lot from the Jeannette Street side. Not sure what that is about. But I dont think you can park back there anymore.
St. Louis Cathedral certainly isnt as opulent and decorative as say, the basilica in St. Louis, but it sure is a great place to catch a mass. Timing wise, the Jesuit church on Baronne (Immaculate Conception) will get you out fast.
Go to Mandina's. While it ain't perfect, it will give you a great glimpse at a New Orleans neighborhood spot. The bread rounds with butter are worth the trip alone.
Metairie/Kenner options
Also, Imperial Garden on Williams has an Authentic Chinese menu that you need to ask for. Great Latin American spots over there as well.
Mike's American Grill-havent been but have heard good things from reliable sources in my office.

A nice spot in the quarter for Sunday dinner would be The Green Goddess. Just opened, its not New Orleans food, but dont let that stop you as there are some NOLA influences.
Cochon is great highly recommend it, but you could have a Cochon-esque experience for a little cheaper at Boucherie (though IMO Cochon better). Then again you could go to Cochon Butcher, just behind Cochon, and eat sandwiches and small plates.
Po-Boys in quarter try Johnny's. Also you could take the streetcar pretty much to all the areas you want to go from quarter. May also want to try Parkway (easy drive from quarter, or decent walk from Canal/Jeff Davis Street Car stop).
I have not had a great experience with Dante's Kitchen, but others have so by all means ignore that. Where are you planning on going to mass? If in quarter, Dante's will be a long ride.
Metairie/Kenner options
It may not be exactly what you are looking for, but I have always loved, Korea House and Kanno in Fat City.
Chateau du Lac is now on Metry Rd. Andrea's and Impastato's run in the opposite direction please.
New Orleans top 5 dishes
Red Beans and Rice with Fried Chicken
Raw Oysters
Roast Beef Po Boy
Spaghetti with Guaniciale and Fried Poached Egg
Souffle Potatoes
Restaurant Recs for current CIA student. Learning experience preferred.
Thanks for bringing him to New Orleans. We hope he beings a long career with New Orleans.
One chef, and eatery, I think you should go to is Wolfe's (Wolfe's, not Wolfe's in the Warehouse). Wolfe worked under Emeril for years before going out on his own. He brings a multi-cultural and faceted approach to working with Louisiana food stuffs. That would be a good place to eat and talk about working in New Orleans.
All the other mentions on this post are also very good.
NOWFE Vinter Dinners
Review from Vintner Dinner at La Cote. All in all a great evening, one or two dishes could have been better, but the wines were very good.

affordable, romantic dinner with long-distance boyfriend?
Try Vizards. A very good kitchen turning out incredible food in a romantic setting. Not sure if they will be there during the week, but if so they have a good wine and dine deal for about $33-35 a person.
May also want to look into Wolfe's on Rampart, they have some banquettes on the side that can be rather private and the food is exquisite.
Brocato's, La Divina, Gelato Pazzo, or Sucre?
This is an incredibly contentious source of disagreement. Old Sucre gelato was horrific, but the new recipe is much improved and quite good. La Divina is hit or miss both on texture and flavors, Gelato Pazzo seems to be the most consistent, and Brocato's the most nostalgic.
Try them all, it would make for a great afternoon.
BBQ Shrimp Secret
What I dont get is why one needs a seasoning packet for a dish whose main ingredients are butter, black pepper, shrimp, Worcestershire Sauce, and lemon.
That being said, the best recipe I have found for this dish comes from the Ralph Brennan's cookbook. His secret is a dash of crab boil.
Are raw oysters safe to eat in May?
And to be honest, raw oysters just dont taste as good in the summer, following their natural progression of taste. I thad some two nights ago at La Cote, sure they were good, but lacked that salt driven intensity that makes Gulf oysters, gulf oysters.
Martin Wine Cellar Uptown
Langs does a pretty good job all around. Their twice stuffed potatoes are admirably at times, and perfect other times. I have always wanted to combine the better cheddah and twice stuffed potatoes into a glorious gluttonous combo.
NOLA elopement questions
j.ho that is one hell of a trip. I think you need to move here.
Congrats
NOWFE Vinter Dinners
Can't wait to hear about MiLa. I don't think the price is outrageous, my only concern with it is that we like to go to these with a large group, and for some reason anything over $100 causes concern in the group, while all price points below are open season. We are going to La Cote tonight, and really excited for it.
Especially I want to hear about the Sorting tables wines.
Enjoy.
late lunch - cochon or liuzza's?
Not sure how late your lunch is. Liuzza's will serve pretty much around the clock. I am not sure about Cochon, they may close between 2 and 5 or so. However, the Butcher is open all day (and right behind Cochon).
which would you choose and why?
Honestly flip a coin. They are going to be two completely different yet somewhat similar meals. Service is good at both, food relies on local flavors and ingredients, only the style of presentation and cooking techniques differs.
But just flip a coin.
Lunch on Friday to celebrate husband's graduation?
I can think of few finer places than Galatoires. Also, Bayona, Iris, August, Cuvee.
Cuvee in particular has an amazing lunch special on Fridays. .20 cent martinis and any three items on the menu for $25.
Galatoire's - First time...Hazlehurst, you listening?
Well if someone is examining your attire that closely, I hope it is your wife. Jos A. Bank also has White Linen suits, should you wish to order one and have ti tailored pre voyage.
Sit downstairs...if you want to go early I would suggest getting in line at 1030. A two top should still be available then. And you want to be prepared when they ask for a waiter. I like Bryant Sylvester, Richard, or any of the Fontenots.
Creole Tomatoes
For a quick market report...
Creole's are not yet ready, however green Creoles are at the market. So they are almost here and may be in this Saturday. But some fried or grilled slices of green Creole would also be great.
Blackberries are everywhere. Last Saturday they needed to sit out for a day to get really sweet as they were a little tart originally. No worries I used them in a cocktail with some simple syrup and mint to bide the time.
An amazing bounty of fresh veggies, leafy greens, etc... is also in. As are shrimp, crabs, (I believe soft shells will be in this week). The favas are declining, just because they are getting bigger and less tender.
Voodough bakery and their buttery crisp loaves of foccacia are always there. Justin Pitts has farm fresh eggs, pork, and beef. Ryals Dairy has amazing feta and goat cheese (get the cajun pepper blend and the marinated feta). Smith's Dairy is there with milk, cream, butter, etc...and free samples of chocolate milk always.
Sneak a taste of Paul's Pesto (the chipotle cilantro is addictive) and you will end up buying a container.
Enjoy.
