rec`s to make a dream come true
foodwallguy, you are awesome! just what i was lookin` for, a real determined precise directive, you absolutely nailed it. thanks so much.
rec`s to make a dream come true
coming from midwest for YALE grad., hubby says we can take our time coming back. i have always dreamed of sitting on a pier, chowing on freshly caught lobster. where??? also, if you had 1 shot at it, could you reccomend any must-see sites, i.e., REDDING STATION in PA., CHOCOPOLOGIE in NORWALK,CT. i would love love to see the HOLOCOUST museum in D.C., but don`t think this is the "time" to be there. WHAT DO YOU THINK
storage/transporting of crawfish?
i know someone who can bring me a sack or 2 home from RGV to ill. what is the best way to transport, dry or submerged in cooler of water??? travel time from pickup approx. 10-15 hrs.
Savoury chewing gum/substitute?
how about the waxy rind of gouda cheese, i used to call it gum when i was a kid
custys lobster buffet, are they open?
haven`t been back, can someone tell me if they have reopened?
now for the good part
DS Just looked up on his phone where to eat brunch on saturday and it took us to Luna`s. oh gosh the food was amazing, such a nice relaxing atmosphere and our waiter was great! it is definately a do over and a sincere recommendation
brazzi`s new haven,ct.
was so looking forward to a great experience but was very dissapointed in the food. i ordered brazzi`s ravioli, cheese stuffed with lobster , and hubby ordered lasagna. they have the decor, good service, even seemingly good ingredients, but not good cooks. lasagna was not seasoned at all, blah. lobster ravioli was soooo over cooked to death. blechk
custys is closed- so MAD
so after waiting nearly 2 yrs to go, we flew in from the midwest for DS`s yale opera friday. thought we`d go to custy`s on sat night, they were closed for winter BUT THEIR WEBSITE STATED THEY WERE OPENING BACK UP FRI, FEB. 11. thought great we`ll go sat. the 12th. drove more than 1 hour up there, and they were closed. had not opened friday. mailbox stuffed to overflowing, parking lot had not been plowed. stopped at a fish market down the road, they said they had noticed, but had no clue! soooooooo dissapointed. drove BACK to north haven red lobster very sad service.but, they were slammed and it was a new kid. did get a comment from someone about nordic lodge being better, but yes they are closed for season too. should we try again at graduation time?

comments on new haven
just got back last night, here`s a few observations- nica`s market on orange st. FABULOUS!!!! sage american grill, BLECCK! Captain D`s down from Jimmies on the bay, FABULOUS, AND REASONABLE.nicas has the most wonderful food in the back, try the classic on foccacia. soooo good, we ended up eating lunch there 3 out of 5 days. Jimmies is , well, ther same, good, but predictable. captain D`s was a first for us, must say the lobster was good, scallops too, but salad was warm. reasonably priced, which is hard to find there! sage american grill. i wish i could buy them for what they are really worth, and sell them for what they THINK they`re worth hahha. tiny i mean minscule oysters on the 1/2 shell for $10.00 won`t be back
need a list of must-do`s

we are midwesterners coming to visit ds in new haven,ct. where would we find a great lobster dinner somewhere fairly close, and not have to sell our shoes to pay for it??? fully cooked meal at a sit-down res., or even steamed at a picnic table where should we go?
New Haven Restaurants

best lobster in New Haven?
oh you bet. in fact, when we were there in feb., we found a pizza place that had the only wood fired pizza oven in ct. right around the corner from hotel. it was pretty good, but nothing earthshattering. i have had many people tell us not to miss Pepe`s though, thanks for the tip!
best lobster in New Haven?
planning a trip in july to move son to grad school at Yale, we are from Midwest. would like to experience the lobster-at- the- pier kind of thing, but love any kind of seafood as long as its fresh. can you help us?
