Cinco de Mayo in Tampa
I have never been to Tampa but will be in 'downtown Tampa' (near Hyatt) with no car for 1 night and it happens to be cinco de mayo. Any place or area that would be fun to be around? Cheesy bar is ok but would like quality eats if possible. Thanks for any info!
White Lily self-rising flour - $2.00 a bag?
My BJ's just started carrying it. $2.50/5lb bag!!!
LA chowhound visiting the Hamptons
I am an east ender and for what you have planned you will spend way too much time in the car to look at fancy hampton houses, explore the south fork AND the north fork esp if you are planning on doing the 2 ferry thing from sag to shelter island and up to greenport. You COULD possibly get it all in if you left early and drove to Southampton, went down to meadow lane and back into southampton village and then headed back west and up route 24 then route 105 to route 25 east (or sound ave east) and hit a bunch of wineries and do a late lunch. In addition, DEF do not plan on doing it any later in the week than Wednesday of memorial day weekend which pretty much starts on thursday afternoon......otherwise the food and wine recs sound great. good luck on your adventure!
What's New on the North Fork?
Was at Noah's a couple of weeks ago. The space and service are just okay. I can see it being pretty loud if it had been more full. The food was also just okay. Had a couple of apps and I cant even remember the entree. Dessert was average also. Was nice to have another option out there though.

Romantic Inn with Great Restaurant - any recs.?
friends lake inn definitely. was there in january mid week. we were almost the only ones there, meal was great. room was typical inn but very nice and we were in the basic room. the fireplace area and jacuzzi rooms we peeked in were quite romantic though.
Hamptons Restaurant week 2009
vine street cafe was really good! the salmon was cooked perfectly medium rare, they way we asked for it. tasty shitake roll appetizer and yum desserts all in pretty beachy farmhouse setting. Great deal for RW!!!

North Fork Table and Inn - so SALTY!!!!
We dined at North Fork Table last night, which was the first night of Hamptons Restaurant week and we were so excited and the menu looked great. Boy had an extra appetizer off of the regular menu, the foie gras and hamachi, excellent says he. the flavors did seem very tasty. That was the best part of the meal though. Off of the restaurant week menu, we had had the smoked salmon appetizer, so salty, so so salty and we like salty. We also had the cavatelli and veal ragout appetizer which was tasty but nothing special, also salty but not inedible. For entrees, we had the salmon over bok choy and mushrooms. the fish was tasty but the bok choy was SO salty it was actually inedible! Our other entreee was the hangar steak which was really good but everything on the plate was completely over salted again!!!
The dessert - panna cotta and blood orange sorbet - very good and upside down pineapple cobbler, also good but overly sugary and too too sweet. Overall, we were disappointed and are cancelling our wednesday evening reservation as a result :( Had things not been so oversalted the meal would have been good, I am not going to even comment on the service as it was the first night of rest week and dont want to knock the place that much since so many people love it. we are also considering cancelling next sundays rez also :( :(
Mont Tremblant Eats
YES yes yes to sEb, right in st jovite town, about 10 min away. le cheval de jade was good but not as good or modern as sEb's cooking. the food places on the mountain were not good but only had the pizza and it was edible at best. there was a nice casual breakfast, lunch, pastry shop right in st jovite also, i think it was mostly a bakery but had about 5 small tables inside and had tasty quiche, breads, salads, pastries one morning. we basically went between there and the mountain, we didnt get to cook just ate cheese/bread and wine in the condo, which we bought at a place just a few shops away from cheval de jade.
hope this post makes it to you in time, please report back on anything you found too :)
Help us eat well in Mont Tremblant area, please :)
well we were caught up there with little info, but we really enjoyed sEb, i posted another post on this board about it, in st. jovite and the cheese shop there. we went to the cheval de jade (sp?) and it was good. i wish we had known about this Atwater market.. we avoided most of the places in the ski village but had to have the pizza one late night and it was less than pizza hut taste. cheeseburger and beer at the brewery place was ok.
sEb - near Mont Tremblant
WHY isnt everyone eating here???? located a few min from Mont Tremblant ski village, the food is miles (millions of miles) from everything in the area.
The only complaint would be that the soft, fluffy bread was cold. Everything else from the aged balsamic for the bread, amazingly creamy and lightly briny oysters (with a surprisingly complementary yuzu drizzle, we had 6 but easily could have eaten 10 times that and made a meal of that alone), excellent delicate trout gravlax (was told it was homemade), and fantastic foie gras (the boy LOVED LOVED LOVED this so much) appetizers to the veal shank/veal confit(?) entree and fish with a corn/something else entree was so great, disappointed i cannot remember the details of these dishes. very upscale and interesting menu. great welcome surprise in this little town. intimate warm setting. we both had the price fixe menu at $45cad and 2 extra starters. waiter was very wise in the ways of food and probably wine. he did seem to be familiar with our selection, which we had smuggled in. i didnt like the dessert of some type of small "donut", that reminded me of passover pancakes lol but came in a great maple sauce (but smelled like a reduced honey) but the Boy loved them. wish i could remember more details but nevertheless RUN to this place if you are in the area. great deal great service and great food. if it werent our last night in town we would have gone back the next night. this meal in nyc would be twice as much, at least.
Mirabelle/St. James is...
email from them states yes, both restaurants will be BYO. phew...
Kitchen A Bistro
was there 2 weeks ago and while still a good meal, def was not as wowed as have been the last 4 times we were there. the rabbit sausage app was tasty though. was my bday AND my fave chestnut tagliatelle and duck confit app was off the menu!!!! the dessert was just so-so also, cannot even remember what it was :((
what will happen now that they are moving to the old mirabelle space?? hope there isnt less focus on food and it doesnt change the quality and taste!!!
ONE restaurant week dinner
If you only could go to one dinner during RW, where would you pick? The list doesnt look that fantastic, I need help!
Luke....L, B or D?
great blog, heading down in a couple of days, wish i had found it sooner!
Luke....L, B or D?
After reading many posts here and viewing the menu online, Luke looks like a good choice although there are mixed reviews for breakfast and lunch, we arent planning on dinner but could fit that in. Are there any opinions on which meal is best here?
ISO: Mont Tremblant under $15 and Best Poutine on the mountain?
profjmm, would you be able to suggest something in the st jovite sector?
From Lake George to N. of Montreal
Are there any extraordinary food finds (must eats or shops) on the way from Lake George through Montreal to Mont Tremblant area?
Help us eat well in Mont Tremblant area, please :)
NY foodies will be heading north in January and staying in a condo at Mont Tremblant , we have a car and are not looking forward to eating at the resort as the reviews here have not been all that favorable. What we are looking for is homey, local, good quality ingredients/meals. It does not have to be a well known place nor are we looking for just high end but more farmhouse french and/or local cuisine, good wine (can even be good house wine) although either and any great place will do. Any bakeries or food shops would also be helpful as we will have a full kitchen to prepare meals, and the ability to load up the car with goodies to bring home. we have about 3 days of meals and are willing to travel for a great meal!
need a lil more help with gallatoires
wow! thank goodness for your response. i would most certainly not want to be 'that' person with the jeans. this is a surprise so i will make sure i pack some sort of slacks for him, he would not want to miss out on both places.
need a lil more help with gallatoires
is the food actually very good here or is it a go to place for the downstairs experience????? my b/f will only wear jeans, although they look neat. should we skip the 2nd floor and head to commanders for our friday lunch instead??
