What to serve with wild boar ragu?

I opted for shaved raw artichokes, parm, and watercress salad w lemon vinaigrette, followed by homemade brownies. MIL was quite pleased! Thanks for the suggestions!

Where to buy wild boar

Thanks, all. Seisels had it, but for $65, I opted for pancetta and ground beef! My ragu was still delicious.

What to serve with wild boar ragu?

Hi there,

For mother's day, I want to make wild boar ragu for my MIL with homemade fettuccine. It's a heavy dish so am thinking about sides/starters...ideas? I'm in California so fresh veggies are no problem. TIA!

Favorite Frittata for a Group?

Hello,

I'm hosting a brunch/baby shower next month and would love to hear everyone's favorite frittata recipes. I'll likely keep it veggies only and serve bacon on the side. I'm in California, so can get good veggies. Thanks in advance for your ideas!

Comun? Or other ideas for cool Mexican restaurants?

Gripe of the evening: made a reservation for Comun on Opentable only to be called today by the restaurant canceling my reservation. They claim there was a glitch on OT's side and that they shouldn't have been accepting ressies for tomorrow due to a special event. Annoyed that I'm now scrambling for another location at the last minute!

Comun? Or other ideas for cool Mexican restaurants?

TJ would have been great, but she's Panamanian and I can't say I want to deal with Border Patrol on our way back!

Comun? Or other ideas for cool Mexican restaurants?

A very good (tho very style/trendy-oriented) friend is coming from out of town (actually, out of the country - she lives in Panama). She has requested Mexican. I was thinking of Comun - what do people think of it? I'm not totally sold on their menu. Another option would be Blind Burro. Any other thoughts out there? As much as I'd like to take her to Tacos El Gordo, that's not gonna happen! Ha.

TIA!

Quick! Need suggestions for Mission Beach, please!

Thanks for the suggestions. The night ended up being a bust. Tried to go to Wonderland in OB, but some sort of an event was happening and it was chaos. We aborted the area and went to Stone, which was fine. Appreciate the help regardless.

Quick! Need suggestions for Mission Beach, please!

Meeting people some friends in Mission Beach for drinks and apps. Any suggestions? Water view would be great, but more concerned with not eating/drinking in a touristy spot. If the place has a TV, even better! Quick suggestions greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Relatively new baker - looking for some inspiration

Hi CHers,

I have some time on my hands and would like to experiment with baking. I love to cook so would like to think I have some pretty good cooking skills, but don't bake much. When I do, I usually make scones, cookies or banana bread. I've never ventured towards bread, but would be interested in pizza dough (have the Smitten Kitchen book and want to give her recipe a shot), pita or naan. I have a food processor and Kitchenaid, and enjoy reading the monthly baking threads. So, my question for you bakers out there, what did you make when you first started baking? TIA!

Anyone else throwing World Cup parties?

Hi CHers,

I'll be throwing a party on 6/22 for US v. Portugal. I'm still devising my menu, but wanted to see what other folks are planning for the upcoming matches! Can't wait!

Help! Last minute private event--10 people, Wed 6/4

Again, a bit of a drive, but the wine room at Marina Kitchen inside the Marriott Marquis is really lovely--I had my wedding reception in Marina Kitchen's private room last weekend and it was awesome. The chef and som are very nice people and extremely flexible.

I've also thrown parties at the large table at Cucina Urbana and my guests have always loved it. The restaurant is noisy, but that area is quieter.

Have fun!

Catering idea for approx 30 on a budget

It was K Sandwiches. SO cheap and definitely a hit among graduate students REALLY tired of bad pizza. Good vegetarian and meat options. All were pleased, including the guys who always complain of being hungry!

Catering idea for approx 30 on a budget

Any other ideas out there? I'm due to host another event. Budget per person likely smaller ($8pp) and would like to avoid pizza. I ended up doing Viet sandwhiches and spring rolls, which were a huge hit, last time, but would like some more variety. Super Cocina is a bit far from UCSD, unfortunately. TIA!

Bachelorette dinner with vegetarian options near ocean beach

I love Starlite for food and drinks. Aero Club is a great bar for after (not just for whiskey) and a few blocks down you'll find Bar Dynamite if you want to have a dance party...very fun place!

Delivery in Old Town

Hello! I'm visiting friends who live in Old Town for their small wedding this weekend. I've somehow been tasked with figuring out dinner after the ceremony. Yes, I realize this is quite last minute, but the bride isn't particularly organized. Any suggestions for dinner delivery for 20 or so after the ceremony? I'd rather not cook, so am hoping my Chicago CHers have some good ideas. Probably nothing too meat-centric, but somewhat classy and obviously chow-worthy.

TIA!

Catering idea for approx 30 on a budget

Hi! I'm hosting a small event (film screening) for about 30 at ucsd this Thursday. I'm looking for ideas for something other than pizza. Something international would be great. Even better if they would deliver. If not, something that travels ok and is ok eaten room temp. All ideas welcome! I could probably do about $12 per person. Tia!

Hosting my professor - need heavy apps suggestions!

The party was last night. I made gougeres for the first time. What a pice of cake! Definitely a crowd pleaser but are fancy and impressive. I also made smitten kitchen's stuffed mushrooms w sundried tomatoes. Finally, endive spears topped w radicchio, apple and almonds. While tasty, my endive leaves were small so they didn't turn out as well bc they were a bit messy to eat. The wine was a great success. And my professor brought a really lovely tannat from paso Robles, a varietal I've never tried. So, a wonderful evening. Thanks again for your help!

Hosting my professor - need heavy apps suggestions!

Hello, CHers,

I'm hosting my professor and his wife this Friday and am having a hard time deciding what to make. The point of the event is to drink wine. A classmate is sharing some Chilean Carmeneres. I'll be showcasing Anderson Valley Pinot Noirs and the professor is bringing a bottle from the Central Coast.

My classmate is making a crostini with beef and roasted peppers, plus some sort of baked camembert.

I am drawing a blank. I'll probably do a charcuterie platter. I need 2 more heavy apps. Ideas welcome!!! No dietary restrictions!

TIA!
