Room 389 (bar) that serves Cameroon (West Central Africa) food on Tues evenings, Oakland

I am headed to Cameroon later this year so can't wait to check this place out and get a taste of what I'll be eating in a few months! Nice work on finding this!

Is it appropriate to bring a winemaker's wine to share when going out to dinner with them?

REPORT: So last night we met for dinner. I took the advice given here and didn't bring one of her wines (she's known primarily for pinot) but, instead, we brought a zin from another AVA from a winery run by a friend's father. She was very excited that we brought a zin, thought it would pair well with the food (upscale pizza) and liked the story behind it. She also presented us with a bottle of her unreleased '10 pinot to try and give her feedback on. We had a really great dinner with wonderful conversation and made plans to meet again next month. Thanks again for all the advice!

Maven on Haight (old RNM space) -- Great cocktails, fantastic fries

What does the location have to do with anything? It's a great space and a great neighborhood.

Is it appropriate to bring a winemaker's wine to share when going out to dinner with them?

Hello friends,

I recently made acquaintance with a local winemaker, loved her wine and made plans to meet at a mutually-loved restaurant for dinner. I am younger, she is much older. I'd love to bring a bottle of wine to share at dinner, but not sure if it's a nice gesture or tacky to bring the winemaker's own wine! Any etiquette tips are much appreciated!

TIA.

Take-out/delivery options in Lower Haight/Hayes Valley/Nopa

Thanks--had a falafel from Hayes & Kebab last night. Pretty tasty.

Any other ideas out there, friends? :)

Take-out/delivery options in Lower Haight/Hayes Valley/Nopa

Hello friends,

I live in the Lower Haight. When I want take-out, I usually get pizza from Little Star, burritos from Little Chihuahua, sushi from Sushi Raw, chicken from Palmyra, salads from Squat and Gobble or Indian from Kasa. I'm getting a little tired of those options and would like to throw some new places in the mix. Any other ideas out there for the LH, Nopa or Hayes Vallye? Ideas for cheap/moderately priced eats where I can call in my order in advance would be greatly appreciated!

TIA!

Recs for Chinese cooking classes

Hi there,

Do you know of anyone that teaches legit Chinese cooking classes? I'm a big fan of Kasma's Thai cooking classes (which I found out about on the board), but now I'd like to expand my horizons. Does anyone offer Chinese cooking classes? I'm in SF, but can travel.

TIA!

Fun, affordable restaurant for a bachelorette party

I love Limon Rotisserie or Beretta for parties. Both are reasonably priced and accommodating to large groups! Have fun!

I've eaten at Ristobar twice in the last month and found the food to be just wonderful. Very high quality, great wines, delish pizza and pasta. I loved our meals there and even thought we had great service! Enjoy!

Looking for San Mateo/Burlingame restaurant for business lunch

Hello!

I am so out of touch with the Peninsula, but am trying to find a suitable place for a business lunch in San Mateo/Burlingame or very close thereto. I don't know everyone's tastes, so, unfortunately, nothing too adventurous! Any suggestions?

TIA!

Great SF restaurant for 10 people $75 per person?

I threw a party for 12 recently at Beretta in their downstairs room and LOVED it. They have a set menu with a good number of choices. With wine, we each paid just over 60.

Best Take-out Places for a "Big Salad" (Dinner)?

The Squat and Gobble in the lower haight has really tasty salads and they are huge. I like the asian chicken salad and the salmon cobb is yummy too. Always surprised how fresh they are and they are open late.

SF equivalent to Northgate Market in San Diego

Hi CH friends,

San Diego has a great mexican supermarket called Northgate Market. Does anyone know of something similar in SF proper? What I'm looking for are delicious prepared foods like Northgate offers (particularly various styles of prepared ceviches and salsas). Northgate's selection is huge so I'm curious if something similar exists in SF. I feel like all the SF mexican markets are pretty small, which I get given the real estate limitations. Do I need to go out of the city (to RWC or Oakland)? If anyone has suggestions, I'd greatly appreciate it!

TIA!

BF moving to SF! Need ideas for welcome party--help!

Hi CH friends,

My boyfriend is making the big move from SD to SF in a couple weeks. I want to welcome him with a fabulous and fun night out in SF! BUT I'm torn between doing something classy and traditional (like drinks at the Top of the Mark, then a nice dinner at HOPR) or going modern, trendy and a bit more casual. We're in our early 30s and will be about 6 people or so. I'm looking for drinks, then dinner combos that evoke a real SF feel. I'd love a little inspiration so if you have any ideas, I'd really appreciate it! TIA!

Need breakfast spot during layover in MIA

Hello!

I'm flying from SFO to MIA and have a 5 hour layover in MIA before continuing on to Bogota. I arrive early (5am) and am wondering if any one has thoughts about where I could grab breakfast near the beach and whether it's feasible to leave the airport, have breakfast and return with enough time to catch my flight without breaking the bank on taxi fares. Any thoughts? Much appreciated!

A particularly Bay Area/N. Californian dessert

The theme for my ladies' supper club this coming month is Northern California. I'm in charge of dessert. Any ideas out there? Something iconic of this area or an ingredient which screams Bay Area? TIA!
