Bar for birthday?

Birthday is 9/11 (I know, insert sigh and gasp here)...Interested in staying in Central SD-- Kensington, North/South Park, Little Italy, Hillcrest, Normal Heights, University Heights, Point Loma, etc.

I read something about the Wine Pub in PL-- Have you heard of it?

Bar for birthday?

Looking for a place to have friends come by and say hello for my birthday...someplace not overly loud.

Two years ago, we did Lei Lounge, which was great.
Last year, was Small Bar, which was fun, but too crowded and loud for anyone to hear anything.

Trying to think of someplace with ample parking, not over-priced, but with fun ambiance.

Thoughts?

What to do with a bunch of limes and lemons?

How long does your citrus mixture last in the fridge? I have 3 small limes and 3 large lemons and that sounds like a great option to keep on hand...

Looking for a bar with outdoor seating-Not in the Gaslamp

Had a party a Lei Lounge last year...and looking to do something simliar this year. I was trying to think of a bar (not in the gaslamp--looking for a more laid back, cheaper ambiance) that has outdoor seating...

Does Small Bar have outdoor seating?
Does Tornado have outdoor seating?

Any other thoughts/suggestions are appreciated!

Looking for Paso Robles Information?

My husband and I are looking for a weekend getaway, and would like to plan our trip around food (of course). I've heard of a few places in the Paso Robles area, but I have no idea how far the distances are between the wineries. We have heard the restaurant at Justin is amazing, so that is going to be a stop, but any suggestions on other places? Here are the other places I've heard of that are good places to be, but seem to be spread all over the place... Eberle Winery, Peachy Canyon, Adelaida.

Any suggestions on how to proceed? We are looking to be there from Thursday-Sunday. (driving up from San Diego).

Thanks!

Mission Bay - San Diego

I would definitely second Bay Park Fish Company. Great food, great service, fun local place!

I brought beets

I just roasted some beets the other day. I wash them, drizzle with some olive oil and wrapped all 4 in some foil (leaving some room for steaming). It took about an hour roasting them at 350.

I peeled after they cooled and made beet/ricotta ravioli! YUM!

You can also steam them as well. I dont season before I steam though...

Hey what's for Thanksgiving?

I made the Sweet Potato Gratin with Chipotle last year and it was phenomenal!!! I went a litle overboard with the chipotle though...so beware!

Help me decide...Brunch for 10 (SD)

I'm trying to organize a birthday brunch for 10 people and I can't seem to decide! All the menu's look reasonably tasty...Here is what I've narrowed the list to (but if one is glaringly missing, please let me know!)

Parkhouse Eatery
Cafe One-Three
The Better Half (been for dinner and loved it)

There will be a couple of vegetarians in the mix, but I think all of these places have options for them.

Which of these places has space for 10? Which of these places would you reccomend? Or is there some other place that I'm missing? I've been to Urban Solace a number of times, so I didn't want to revisit.

Thanks!

Coronado Getting Hip?

I wouldn't make an extra effort for Night and Day Cafe...It only tastes good after 2AM (and its the last stop)...Its your typical greasy spoon diner.

1500 Ocean- Anyone been recently? (sd)

I'm thinking of going here for our anniversary...But heard the chef changed since it was reviewed so highly. Has anyone been here recently? If so, would you reccomend it?

Previous anniversary dinners that were winners were: Nine-Ten, Market

Alexander's in North Park (SD)

Went here for dinner last night...and I had the same reaction as when I went to Old Venice...Not that impressive for the prices. The staff were WONDERFUL, service was great, but food was just average and essentially the same menu as Old Venice.

We had the green lip mussels as a starter- which were chewy and ridiculously hard to remove from their shells, but the broth was delicious.

Entree- I had the Baked Pasta with Spicy Vodka Sauce... Teeny, tiny portion and the sausage was flavorful, but the spicy vodka sauce was neither spicy nor had any flavor to it. I don't need big portions, and I don't mind paying more for a smaller portion, but I need full flavors!

Dessert- Chocolate chip cookie with ice cream. Tasty, but nothing very innovative and about 10x too much whip cream.

Again, I might come here for the staff and some appetizers, but the food is very underwhelming for the prices and in this neighborhood, it has to be tough competition (great food with Zensei, former Linkery spot, Lefty's)

Anniversary dinner in San Clemente/Laguna?

I was just looking at Vine...Is it near the water with a view? The menu looks in the range of what I was thinking of for dinner.

Thanks!

Anniversary dinner in San Clemente/Laguna?

My hubby and I are celebrating our 5th anniversary in the OC this year (combining it with a friend's birthday the same weekend) and want to find a great place to go. We live in San Diego, so if you are familiar, I'm looking along the lines of Market in Del Mar and Nine-Ten in La Jolla. Would prefer someplace that uses local, seasonal food...and the caveat, while I love sushi, I'm also pregnant, so sadly, will have to avoid that for the time being...A view would be a great plus!
Thanks in advance for your rec's!

San Diego -- where to buy scallops?

Blue Water Grill on India Street, but also Bay Park Fish Co off Morena Blvd (near Siesel's). I've heard good things about Catalina off shore, but have never purchased from there..

Who uses homemade chicken stock in recipes?

Can anyone share their specific recipe /steps involved in making stock in the crock pot? I'm experimenting today...first time stock maker...
I had a chicken carcass in the freezer, threw it in the crock pot with carrots, thyme, onion, garlic. I filled up the crockpot with water and set it on LOW this morning (8:30AM). What is supposed to happen next? Will it be done by the time I get home?
Thanks for your help...

Nice Restaurant with Private room in Toronto?

Budget is a non-issue, since its a company function and no specific cuisine preference. Turns out it will only be ~10 people, so someplace that is open on Sunday night, has a private place for dinner with great food and wine! So far, Splendido looks like its the only place that is open on Sunday nights...

Nice Restaurant with Private room in Toronto?

Hi,
I'll be in Toronto for a conference in May and my company needs a reccomendation for some nice restaurants, ones that preferably have a separate area where we can have a business/dinner. There will be about 15-20 people. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Limoncello/Orange Liqueur

Can you put the actual oranges in the vodka/grain alcohol? I have about 6 or 7 oranges, and I just cant handle eating them anymore. I've added them in salads, eaten them for breakfast, snacks, and I'm orange-d' out. Can add the zest and the oranges in the vodka? Will it work the same?
