gerchak's Profile
Grappa '72 (Albany)
Chef Dominic Colose used to be in Saratoga, and is a terrific cook.
Muza -- in Troy
I found the helupki to be too "saucy" and the potato pancakes to be close to fried mash potatoes. Would not return.
Noon Mark Diner (Essex County, NY)
I always get my sandwiches-to-go there when hitting a trailhead in the High Peaks.
Have a favorite weekend Greenmarket/ Farmers' market in Albany Area?
Saratoga Market is the best in the area.
Best Bars in Saratoga?
Can't beat the Parting Glass if it's brew you're after. For any kind of 'tini, it's definitely 9 Maple. For fancier nostalgia drinks, Max London's. Best neighborhood bar is "the local."

The Lodge & Siro's (seasonal restaurants in S. Springs)
I think they do, at least that's my impression (unlike Siro's).
The Lodge & Siro's (seasonal restaurants in S. Springs)
Siro's is first-rate; the Lodge mediocre and overpriced. Went to both last year.
Lake Placid - need one restaurant choice and brew pub advice
Lake Placid Lodge is excellent.
wishing well restaurant in wilton near saratoga, N Y
I've eaten there a few times, and found mostly retirees eating safe overpriced unimaginative food.
GREAT CASUAL RESTAURANTS RIDGEWOOD, N.J.
The Daily Treat is incredible for quality, interesting menu, value.
JT's Shrimp Shack in Ballston Spa, NY
Actually, I just read something praising Hot Diggity: supposed to have great dogs, burgers, and fish fry. I plan to check it out.
51 Front Wine Bar & Bistro
The place is wonderful. The owner was formerly of Eartha's in Saratoga. Everyone seems to think the fried chicken is too salty. The chef argues that it is the exact same recipe he used in New Orleans and everyone down there loved it. My preference is the fish--best place in the area for quality and, as you say, price.
restaurants north and west of saratoga springs
The Rose is good, but it's in Lake Luzerne. Also, west on 29 in Galeay is the excellent Village Pizzeria which, in spite of its name, is a full-service resto with everything home-made.
restaurants north and west of saratoga springs
Winslow's on Rte. 9 in Wilton has terrific food, very inexpensive. They specialize in turkey dinners and prime rib (Thur. night). Meat is butchered on site.
Peppermill in South Glens Falls is also very good and has a loyal following. Massie's in SGF has good Italian-American fare and is good value as well.
If you're looking along the Rte. 9N corridor, the pickings are much slimmer.
Pizza in Saratoga Springs, NY
thewie, you don't say where you got the subs. Marino's? Their subs have always been huge and great.
staying in downtown Albany
For dinners, McGuire's, Cafe Capriccio, Justin's for a start.
Kosher or kosher style deli near Saratoga Springs?
For a year or so we did have one, called Broadway's Best, where Forno Toscano is now located. Now it's just Ben & Bill's, as Jay points out..
Eating at Tarry Lodge
I'm a Batali fan too, but 109 posts for one stinking restaurant!? Get a life, people.
Albany/ Schenectady area
Of the restos listed by jspear, Forno and Olde Bryan Inn are the most kid-friendly.
Saratoga Report: Max London's
I haven't been in 3 or 4 months but ate there 5 or 6 times before, and this was definitely not my experience. Hope it hasn't begun a decline.
Max London's, Saratoga Springs
ML's is a very bright new spot in SS. It's cocktails are amazing revelations, although VERY expensive ($12-$14).. Individual dishes are inexpensive but the bill quickly runs up. "Pig 3 ways" is fabulous, as are the pizzas. Hope they do lunch.
conference in Saratoga
Chez Sophie (in the Hilton), Forno Toscano (across the street), Chianti (Division St. just 1/2 block from Broadway) should start you off!
Over-rated in Saratoga
No question about it. Saratoga's restaurant prices are way out of line. Pricing at Forno Toscano, Circus Cafe, Dine, and Chianti are a bit high, but I would say fair.
Three other reasonably priced and good recommendations: Stadium Cafe (B'way or West Side), mainly for burgers, the local (corner Beekman and Grand), and Gotchya's (Beekman).
New Saratoga restaurant
It's very good artisanal pizza. I highly recommend it. We had a mushroom and a pepperoni, all organic, and a nice Brooklyn lager.
Lime & Cantina & Leon's
Lime is quite good, although with an overreliance on the ubiquitous and flavorless tilapia. Leon's is a big disappointment since Filoberto Leon, a retired jockey, is from Mexico. Comes across as too Tex-Mex. Cantina is the only innovative Mex. place in Saratoga. Great duck taquitos, and has actual huitlacoche in its quesadilla.
Mare, Saratoga Springs?
I hear from my son it's become a real kids hangout, because they have a dance space.
Special Restaurant in Saratoga
Yes, MommyTwingle, you blew it. I agree with your comments re 1 Caroline (also applies to its sister Mouzon House). I've always wondered how they could add the word "authentic," e.g., authentic paella, say, to something made with boneless, skinless, (tasteless) chicken breast, and ingredient which is not authentic anywhere!
