Master Chef 8/26 from top 6 to top 5

I had read on several sites from past seasons that contestants were forced to change their looks pretty dramatically for the show. Such as hair color, etc. Makes you wonder if Mr. Sleeveless walks around sleeveless all the time.

I for one would chose an Olympian butcher. I also would like to attend the butchering Olympics.

Hetal lasted longer than I expected. I will say that Katrina is usually now one of the first picked and her competitors seem to like her, so she must have something going on.

So when Ramsay showed his ravioli with a fresh looking green leaf on it... I'm guessing that was magically cooked sage? Or something else? It didn't look deep fried.

Masterchef August 20, spoilers - last 7 compete

So they begin with a coffee challenge. And despite some tasty looking dishes, Nick wins with quite a cute looking cake. He gets immunity, and gets to assign the teams for the tag team relay (yes that's back again) and they have to make a party platter which the judges say is "all from scratch" but in watching the show it's pretty clear the buns are store bought, and the pastry for the pigs in blankets is pre made (not to mention I saw no one making their own hot dogs). Otherwise they are making sliders with mushrooms and cheese and onions, what was called bbq chicken wings but look like breaded hot wings, pigs in blankets, chips and salsa (they did have to make the batter for the tortillas, fry and cut them up) and shrimp on skewers. Also salsa, and some other dipping sauces.

Lots of annoying yelling goes on to the point I kind of quit watching for a while because I couldn't take Kristina shrieking at Tommy and Derrick and Stephen carrying on. Well I guess that tells you the teams. The last team was Claudia and Hetal. Despite much yelling, Derrick and Stephen are declared the clear winners. After this, I kind of had a hard time following. I couldn't really see where Claudia and Hetel's platter was any better than Tommy and Katrina's.

In fact, Claudia and Hetel had flat raw shrimp they couldn't eat.

Regardless, Tommy went home.

The parts I found interesting were that it confirmed, they didn't butcher the heads, they were given packages with the meat already in it, that she and Katrina were very good friends on the show, and that Stephen had brought a spreadsheet of everything that had happened on previous master chef seasons to study.

From what I watched, those full heads sat there untouched the entire round. Ramsay even came by and played with some pigs ears at one station.... with the pig head with ears clearly in the foreground. So I'm guessing no butchering.... just pre packed already cleaned meat.

I also noticed that. I wanted to see them actually have to butcher off the halibut cheeks and collar, and take off the ears and cheeks.... and no one did eyeball tacos????? I got the impression when it was over they basically cooked whatever the producers gave them already cleaned and butchered and prepared. Kind of disappointing.

I kind of feel like Olivia got robbed on this one. She never had a winner's edit, but it seemed like Hetal should have been the one going home. Not just because of the crash and burn that got her team in the pressure test. But cooking Indian food again, and then not getting the vegetables right, again. I don't think she's going to last long, but did think she should have gone before Olivia.

Masterchef August 12, 2015 spoilers

The top eight battle it out tomorrow night. From the precedes from last week it appears the first team challenge is a Vegetarian challenge. Hetel and Tommy will be team captains. From a photo on the master chef twitter account, Hetal's team is Olivia, Claudia and Derrick. You'd think she would win, but they tweeted out another pic of her in a black pressure test apron... and the pressure test is cooking the heads of a variety of different animals. My guess is Olivia or Claudia will be going home.

The top 9 cook tonight on Masterchef U.S. According to a precede at heavy.com

Tonight's episode of Masterchef 2015 is titled "A Little Southern Flare" and the show description reads: The contestants must prepare a flambe; the challenge winner selects which Southern dish the contestants will cook., the first challenge is to cook something with a flambé. The pressure test involves southern cooking.

Going to the link and looking over photos you can get a good idea of who ends up in the pressure test, and what southern meal they are cooking (chicken and waffles)

OKay I can't find the post without expanding them all, but just wanted to do a shout out thank you to whoever posted using a canning jar funnel for other uses. Was transfering a bag of brown sugar to an old antique big Ball glass jar I keep on the counter..... was thinking damn, this is going to go all over... wait.... jar funnel! Worked like a dream. Thanks again!

Shelley survives again by hiding on a decent team in a team challenge. I had a hard time seeing that Christopher's gnocchi was worse than Tommy's other than the eye roll.

Well, I guess there is no room for eye rollers in Masterchef. Surprised they didn't eliminate two this time after last weeks non event.

Pretty sure it was Shelly. She told Christina Tosi that she originally wanted to do mango and coconut, but was worried about cutting it, so switched to strawberries and chocolate. Then presented a vanilla cream custard. Maybe there was chocolate on the bottom?

I think it is significant that the mother while writing her "explanation" put in all the events, even her husband's prior work but left out the fact there were more in her party. Coupled with, makes it more likely in my opinion that the adults were chatting and trying to have an adult conversation and ignoring the child which matches the restaurant's take on events

I believe they were told due to the small grill that the 3 large pancakes would be a longer wait than other options. I believe wait times are why most parents bring snacks and toys for their toddlers like cheerios.
Read Marcy's diner post this morning on Facebook. Interesting that there were 3 adults and one child dining, not just coast guard hubby and wife and child. That's never mentioned in the mom's post.

Masterchef U.S. 7-22-2015 spoilers

Catching up on last night's masterchef. Well for once, the editing monkeys fooled me. I was sure when Hetal's team kept doing horribly throughout the challenge, that of course it would mean they would turn it around and win. Surprisingly, for once, the team that had their stuff together from the beginning wound up winning it handily. Hetal's pretty much to blame for this one from the start. She handed Katrina some of the best chefs on a platter, then gave them New York Strip. Sure, I love hanger steak, but New York is easily recognizable for most diners. I was also impressed this was the first episode where Katrina actually seemed like a super confident leader and chef. Was a nice change from crying break-down Katrina. Starting to maybe see a little of what the judges have been seeing in her.

During the pressure test, I'm not sure why they showed Shelly cooking with chocolate. I didn't see any chocolate in her final product.

Exactly what dmjordan posted above. You learned your manners at home at the dinner table. Sure, crying is going to happen, they are little kids. So take them outside or leave.

Mommy sounds oblivious. Her "antsy" and "Fussing" was apparently annoying enough to get the chef's attention. Reads like a very self-serving entitled view. I'm sure she's embarrassed to be called out for not being a responsible parent.
