The Taste, episode 3, Happy Holidays -- Spoilers

I agree. Really when Naomi was there. She's also a beautiful full figured woman but she was comfortable. I want to love Nigella, but everytime I see her I think how painful those Spanx must be. Come on Nig.... break out of that "image" your ex made for you. You're better than this.

I like me some Michael Symon. I"ll look forward to that episode.

Speaking of costumes, one improvement over the first season is the servers that bring the food out to the judges. The first season the poor female servers were wearing just skimpy outfits that a deep breath threatened to expose their personal bits. Clothing this year is attractive, yet unobstrusive. You don't really even notice them.

Totally agreed. Hate Marcus's "costumes"

The Taste, episode 3, Happy Holidays -- Spoilers

Last season for one episode she wore a stylish pant suit and it looked so fabulous on her. I wish she'd branch out more from the skin-tight dresses that were all the "domestic goddess" image that her ex husband created because she's a beautiful woman.

The other mentors were all talking to their teams about what Naomi (who was doing the tasting) was about, what her style is what she likes... and Nigella was talking about how Nigella is the uncrowned queen of Christmas and Christmas is baking. I agree. Just didn't seem to grasp the Person she had to appeal to.

The Taste, episode 3, Happy Holidays -- Spoilers

Naomi from Beast is the guest judge for the team challenge. For some inexplicable reason Nigella has her team do a dessert. The other mentors seemed to get more of what Naomi is about and went with meat. Winner is team Ludo.... and Nigella has to send another chef home. She sends home Mia, leaving her with just one chef.

Team Ludo gets Chef Naomi in the kitchen to do a masterclass and while they are cooking.

Back for worst and best bites. Nigella's team manages to squeak by so she will be back next week with one chef. Jen is back in the bottom and in the taste off against Joe.
Surprisingly, Joe is the loser and going home.

Top Chef Boston – Ep. #9 – 12/17/14 (spoilers)

Firestarter would have been great.... a big dramatic flambé at the table!

Top Chef Boston – Ep. #9 – 12/17/14 (spoilers)

I think if I had Carrie, I'd serve some sort of bright red sauce on the side in a boat that the diner had to pour over the poor unsuspecting dish.... to get the whole experience.

Top Chef Boston – Ep. #9 – 12/17/14 (spoilers)

Sad to see Katsuji go. I thought his dish really took a risk and fit the challenge the best.

The Taste

Oops! Sorry about that. But you definitely bring the entertainment and the food.

And I also of course want to ask a zillion questions, probably none of which you can answer.

I am intrigued by "comeback sauce".... How does one make that?

To be completely superficial.... I think Padma wore those black and white striped pants in a previous season. I didn't care for them then, either.

I feel your pain. There are few cooking competition shows I won't watch if they are available. Even ones I know I should hate.

Nigella interacting with her cooks is almost painful to watch for me.

I admit, Loud crazy Ludo kind of entertains me. While I've been a fan of Bourdain for years from his books, I admit if all 4 mentors picked me I would probably pick 1) Ludo 2) Bourdain.... and flip a coin on Marcus and Nigella.

The Taste

The taste off at the end appeared to be a new addition this season. Not sure what I think about it yet. Two mentors yelling at their chef how to cook a specific dish. Kind of weird.

I kind of like the guy from Kentucky that said that putting Uni on "come back sauce" is like putting fancy knickers on an old hooker.

You know. I agree with you completely for once. That is not a team I would want to be on.
The cook off is a new thing. Not sure what I think about that. Not surprised Nigella is already two people down. She doesn't mentor well I don't think.

Masterchef Junior semi final round SPOILERS

No not really. Wasn't nearly as off putting as the shenanigans in regular Masterchef tho.

Masterchef Junior semi final round SPOILERS

Chowser you hit on my pet peeve of both junior and regular masterchef. Dressing people as "characters" Annoying as damn hell to me. Leave the goofy chef hats, vest, bow ties, mini skirts, high heels, geeky mismatched clothe at home. Show up, everyone gets chef whites and cook. please.

Not So Pioneer Woman?

Well I certainly can't argue with the experts at Wikipedia, I can only speak from 15 years of public service within 60 miles of the Drummond ranch where I worked with the public and ate at all the fabulous restaurants in the area. I'm sure the demographics in western Okla are somewhat different. But again. I can only speak to what I know from actually being there.

Not So Pioneer Woman?

Looks like the experts at Wikipedia left out all our Hispanic and Latino population.

Not So Pioneer Woman?

Um, Bob have you been to Oklahoma lately? I lived in Tulsa about 60 miles from their ranch and I assure you there is pretty much any ethnic group you could ask for there.

As a lawyer, this makes me very very very sad for what people in our profession have sunk to.

Masterchef Junior semi final round SPOILERS

I rarely cook or eat fish. (that's what you get growing up on a beef farm I guess). I could not have come close to doing as well as Adaiah or Samuel did in that challenge.

Masterchef Junior semi final round SPOILERS

I'm sad Adaiah didn't get to move forward, mostly because I didn't feel like we saw enough of her this season. She seems like a very composed, talented young lady. Okay, well not sad really. I think Abby survived longer than she probably should have. Logan never made much of an impression on me altho he seems like a nice kid and his food looked great. Altho, out of the final four, I probably would have preferred Adaiah's plate.

Masterchef Junior semi final round SPOILERS

So we're down to four, Samuel, Adaiah, Abby and Logan. It starts out with a salmon filleting competition. The kids go off and get their big fish. Abby said the fish was as big as she was. Was nice to see Samuel offer to help her with it and lift it up onto the bench for her. The kids get 30 minutes to get as many perfect 7 oz. fillets from their fish as they can in order to get an advantage for the elimination challenge. Nothing like watching little kids with sharp knives and giant fish, eh?
ADaiah and Samuel don't seem to be having too many problems. Abby is just painful to watch. Adaiah wins the advantage. For the challenge they have to cook a "stunning dish" with one of their salmon fillets. Adaiah gets to choose between 4 refrigerators, contining 100, 50, 25 and 5 ingredients, then she gets to assign the remaining refrigerators to her competitors. She takes the 50 ingredient fridge, giving abby the 100, Samuel the 25 and Logan the 5. Her strategy being the 100 ingredients would confuse Abby (pretty much right) the 25 were boring ingredients too simple for Samuel.
The kids start cooking..... and...... the two girls are going home.
Lots of crying. Lots and lots of crying. Samuel and Logan move ahead to the finale.

oh wait. missed the striper redemption arc.... how food saved me from being a Vegas stripper.... sigh.

The Taste

So the new season has started with the audition/competitor episode. I'm enjoying looking at the food and that not most of the back stories are sob stories.... but I admit. I feel really bad for Nigella.
