Grimaldi's Pizza in El Segundo Review:

Was in El Segundo for a business meeting and would of been caught in rush hour traffic if I drove straight home. Therefore I planned to have a dinner at Grimaldi's, after hearing about this Brooklyn institute coming to LA. I had to try it. My server Alejandro was very helpful in introducing the menu to me. I went with a Small pepperoni Pizza with half sausage & half bacon, with a wheat beer to start. Out comes my hot pizza and boy was it tasty and I have half saved for tomorrow. I then met the manager Jesus who showed me photos of the original location under neath the Brooklyn bridge, always a pleasure hearing stories from people who take pride in their restaurant's history. He convinced me to try a Canoli and it was one of the best I've had, that is on the West Coast. Next time I'm in this city I will make it a regular visit

La Ventura-Studio City (new Mexican Restaurant)

A friends and I dined here last night and I wasn't impressed at all. Sure to the couples who stick with locations right on the blvd. you might like it. Knowing there are so many better Mexican restaurants off the blvd, this just didn't kick it for me. We started with a couple margarita's, they come on the rocks only, zero blended drinks. If you want chips & salsa, you will be charged. We gave it a try, both the 3 salsas and the guacamole, the chips were thick like the ones you buy at Vallarta and the salsa & guac just didn't stand out for us. I was hoping to try the Calamari tacos, this was already dropped from the menu. Instead I went with the Al Pastor tacos since I'm a sucker when carved from the spit with pineapple. What can I say, 90% of the trucks out there are better, tacos were small portions on the meat and I left unhappy. For 2 our meal was a little over $50, I wont return....Out take Bistro was much better.

Spitz Studio City (Donar Kebob-now open)

My apologies, I was so excited to finally have a Turkish Donar spot in my area I jumped the gun. I should have tried this first before posting. Well, I just returned from trying their street cart Donar which tasted nothing like the authentic ones you would get in Europe and a side of street cart fries which was just a mess of heaping topping over fries, disgusting. Long story short, I shall not return.

Spitz Studio City (Donar Kebob-now open)

I noticed Spitz did their soft opening last week. I haven't had a good Donar Kebob since my travels to Berlin, Germany

Will be a great addition to the neighborhood, this is on my list to try.

Would love to hear what others say if they've tasted so far?

Chinatown-L.A. Best Spots for Dim Sum & Bars:

I understand Dim Sum is considered a breakfast by Asian customs. Our visit will be as a lunch and to enjoy a couple daytime drinks and take it from there, will be a nice time.

Haven't had these since being in St. Louis and I'm having hard time finding these in L.A. or even the Valley?

Can anybody share spots they love for this tasty appetizer, Toasted Ravioli's?

Duna Csardas for Hungarian?

The owner owns numerous properties in the Hollywood Hills. Each time I would dine here it's always empty too. I think he keeps it open for him & his wife to have a hang out spot and enjoy the piano and comfort of their own place. He even prints his own hungarian newspaper each week too. Very interesting...

Moving to Studio City

You are correct, Kung Pao Bistro was replaced by Take a Bao not much of a fan of Take a Bao except for their carmalized asian wings which are simply addictive and a must try, everything else I can do without.

Cookin with Lenny's Smokehouse BBQ (Valley Spot)

April 5th and we just returned here for a lunch meal, it was outstanding, see photos, I cant rave enough about Krystal our waitress too, amazing customer service & a pleasant woman all around. She's also one of the waitresses that gets up and sings with Lenny's band. We started with this shrimp appetizer dish & bread you dip in the sauce, heaven! For my meal I had to go with the Whisky ribs again, fall off the bone and the glaze is enough, no need to add any sauces, give it a try! Stuart

Cafe De Mexico-Sherman Oaks

I just returned for a 2nd time, this time during Happy Hour for the $2 taco price and loved it. This is definitely my new local go to spot. Plus I was able to try the complimentary chips & salsa this time when eating there. The chips were the way I like them, a little thicker and had a wonderful seasoning. The salsa had a nice kick to it too. Happy to have this spot in our area now.

Cheers,

Stuart ;.)

Texas Best BBQ in Valley Village on Riverside:

There's various threads about this spot vs. Dave & Romero's TX BBQ on Coldwater outside behind the deli. I just returned from an amazing meal and got the full scoop. I was lucky to meet the owner as well and he let me come in the back of the restaurant to snap these shots of the smoker. They were trying something new a smoked Meatloaf which looked killer. I first discovered these guys from the outdoor barbecuing on Coldwater. Now I learned that Dave moved back to TX and the Deli is trying to continue this. The other partner opened this location on Laurel & Riverside. I went for the 3 meat combo with 2 sides for $20, you cant beat that. The pork rib had amazing flavor and allot of meat, this was my favorite. I also went with the tri-tip and sausage which were just as good. For my sides the beans stood out and some of the best I've ever tried. I did enjoy the mac n cheese and they let me sample the potatoes salad since I read mixed reviews on here. Now I'm home with half my food saved for tomorrow. I'm telling you, give this spot a try! See photos and enjoy, Stuart

Feel like going over Laurel for something different tonight?

Cafe De Mexico-Sherman Oaks

Exactly, same spot that failed as a dessert shop. Now as Cafe de Mexico it's now in my Top 3 favorite tacos for the Valley. Just paying $2.75 for one taco and more for the fish is a bit pricey. They do have $2.00 taco pricing from 3-6pm weekdays. I shall return.

Cafe De Mexico-Sherman Oaks

Just returned from this new Mexican spot in Sherman Oaks, it was amazing! They would get a 10 rating from me if the pricing was lower, for taste a 10. I'm paying 3 times the amount for a taco just it's the closest thing that reminded me of the fresh carved Al Pastor off the spit in Tijuana. I also tried a fish taco, see both photos and the quality & food was outstanding. I shall return!
