Republique Dinner Review-L.A.

Had an amazing dinner experience here last night. We ate like kings, between the two of us with both white & red wines the bill was $500. We started out with a dozen east coast oysters which were magnificent. From there we had beef tar tar with potato chips. Followed by these smoked eel and potato balls. Next was their first night with the return of Foie Gras now that this is back and allowed to be served in California, see photo, this was my favorite dish. Continuing with these various tapas plates next we tasted the bread in the pan gravy drippings, another wonderful appetizer. For our main entrees which we shared:Lamb Shanks over a kale risotto, very tasty and another foie gras pasta with black truffles called Cavitelli. As well as a wonderful white fish entree called John Dory. For dessert we indulged over their banana chocolate bread pudding. This french restaurant is a must, divine!

Best Fried Chicken in the Valley?

Happy Holiday's Carter, once I try LP I shall report back. To add, I also tried the Asian style fried chicken at Take a Bao, which was tasty just nothing to rave about. I did leave out Le Sisters which is in Chatsworth and is still high up on my list for a southern craving, mighty fine fried chicken.

Thank you 'MagnoliaGardens' this was one of the things I didn't like on my few previous visits, the meat came out not cold, more room temperature where I was looking forward to a fresh cooked hot rib. Hearing what you say, how they prepare night before makes sense now

Your FAV BBQ in the Valley:

I did a search and it's been years since anybody started a new BBQ topic. What's your favorite go to spot for ribs? Sticking around the Studio City, North Hollywood, Sherman Oaks, Van Nuys areas. I try to avoid Ventura Blvd. yet still do give some of those restaurants a shot. Now for my input:

-Kansas City BBQ (now called Bar-B-Que) I used to enjoy just the foods gone downhill and prices raised, think they care more about turning this into a bar

-Mom's BBQ-not bad just I'm still on search for something better

-Boneyard Bistro-again on the Blvd =way overpriced

-Barrel & Ashes-on my list to try, hearing great things

-Uncle Andres BBQ-tasty southern dishes, ribs just ok

-Smoke City BBQ-this is just average in my opinion

Lets hear what others have to say.

Thank you,

Stuart

Best Mexican in Sherman Oaks?

Trust me, it's hard to find good Mexican in Sherman Oaks. I'm going to share my favorite within a 3-5 mile radius if this helps:

-Casa Vega (foods not the best, though good for group gathering)
-Loteria Grill (more gourmet Mex, great food, good for a party)
-Salsa & Beer (Noho Location)
-Don Cuco's (Toluca Lake)

For Tacos:

-Cafe De Mexico (Sherman Oaks)
-Casita Tacos (Noho)

Quesadillas:

-Andy's Mexican Grill (Best spinach Quesadillas in Valley, stuffed with Pico de gallo and your choice of meat)
&
-Don Zarape (Noho, great chicken mole)

Seafood Mex:

-Los Arcos (Van Nuys)
-Marisco Vallarta (Van Nuys)

Enjoy,

Stuart

Sorriso Italian in Tiergarten, Berlin REVIEW:

On our final night we enjoyed a nice meal at this spot. Starting things off with their calves liver appetizer which was delicious and for my main course their freshly made pesto pasta with pine nuts. The perfect meal after having such heavy dishes earlier in the week. Give it a try!

Here on Day 2 in Berlin and our meals have been amazing. Last night's Italian at Da Baffi was wonderful. We had a party 5 and ate like kings, shared 3 bottles of white wine, started with their Calamari salad which we loved, a couple orders of their truffle pasta which was a big hit and a new first time fish dish which was one of the best fishes ever, wish I remembered the name, then we ended the meal with their chocolate lava cake, spoke to the owner and he said they are leaving the Wedding district in 2 months and will reopen in either Charlottsberg or Kreuzenberg area. Now on to tonight's Austrian/German meal at MitterHoffer. As you enter you begin to wonder if this was a mistake, until the food comes out and you will be grateful. To start they bring out their own homemade bread with a nice spread. To start I had their cauliflower soup (see photo) and you couldn't ask for a more gourmet cook, the depth of flavors were outstanding. The specials fot the night were Cod fish or dear, reviews said the Weinerschintzel is a must and we both ordered this, out comes the biggest plate ever, after my first bite I was convinced this was the best ever! I had a side of spetzel and my friend had the mashed potatoes, both cooked wonderfully. I'm typing on my cell and will share more when I return home

Italian Dinner-Los Angeles (Decisions?)

My apologies, been tied up in business meetings all week with clients. Here's a breakdown of the name of our dishes as they came out. We brought 2 of our own beautiful wines to go with our meal, with a $40 corkage fee on each. Before our dishes arrived we received 2 appetizers on the house, a tasty gnocchi type of pasta and a flavorful vegetable soup. Now on to the meal, photos are on this post below. Out comes our Tuna tar tar, by far the best version of this to ever grace my mouth. It was perfectly seasoned on top of bruschetta bread. Next up was the grilled calamari which sat on top of a pomegranate salad, just as wonderful. From there the bone marrow which was to die for along with a corn succotash. From there the owner told us how he cures his own bacon which we had to try inside this pasta dish called "Bombolotti Mancini al amatricana guanciale tomatoes peperoncino" probably the best dish of the night, cooked al dente, just perfect. Out comes the whole Bronzino fish carved table side, another wonderful meal. In case your wondering, we ordered so much since each plate we split between myself and my business colleague. Next up was the suggested Veal Kidney's over mashed potatoes, we loved this just it was missing grilled onions. The table next to us agreed as well. To finish things off we split a trio of 3 desserts. My favorite being the chocolate mouse, the 2 others were cannoli's and an Italian cream puff. Hope you all enjoyed my experience and thank you for the suggestion, Stuart

Yes we loved the Veal Kidneys's, that's the middle photo above, we felt if he added some grilled onions to this it would have been a home run!

We might give Mr Hai Kabuki Sushi a try, I'm told this Sushi spot is better, have you tried this "Linguafood"?

Yeah, "Fischer's Fritz" is quite fine dining, to pricey for our dinners. Plus I enjoy a meal with good portions, this spot has dishes that look like a work of art and the food is the size of a coin.

Hello-

It's been a couple of yours now and I'm returning to Berlin for a business trip Oct. 15th-19th and would love some dinner suggestions.

We'll be staying at:

Hotel Berlin Berlin
Lützowplatz 17, 10785 Berlin

cabs are fine within 20-30 minutes from where we stay.

We enjoy:

-German/European cuisine
-Italian
-Seafood

Looking forward in hearing some new spots to dine at please :>)

My favorite spot from 2 years back suggested by members on here was:

-Katz Orange (My # 1 spot)

-trattoria paparazzi - nice comfy spot ( first italian restaurant to open in east berlin during the communist era, lots of history)

-Filetstueck -wasn’t impressed at all, terrible steaks & ambiance

-www.sage-restaurant.de (this was a unique spot, something different to try once)

-Lutter & Wegner (Very nice, upscale & elegant at the Sony Center in Pottsdam Patz

)

-Jolesch & Mitterhofer (I still want to try the pig, wasn't able to visit last year? I hear this is the best for German comfort food and pork?)

-Royal Grill (was terrible & overrated and overpriced)

-Etreconte (great spot, french food & steaks)

Thank you,

Stuart

Monster Noodles (Valley Village)

Thank you for giving it a shot, I feel the same way, stick to one ethnicity you know your good at, don't combine 4-5 styles in one, it never works. I could walk to this spot and was so hoping it would be decent. Luckily we have the best Thai restaurant around the corner, Teya Thai on Laurel by Chandler, if you haven't tried that your in for a treat, the owner Teya will greet you at the door, say Stuart sent ya ;.)
