Anyplace selling Pig Wings in Ocean/Monmouth County?
We had some pretty tasty pigs wings at Mike's Courtside in New Brunswick. they offer them up with a couple of different sauce options.
Best Chinese in Hightstown/East Windsor area?
I walked past the Chinese buffet place in the Shoprite shopping center yesterday. I have never been there through any of its resurrections but I must say that looking through the window the place seemed quite busy and filled with a lot of Asian people eating. I have frequently followed the "eat Chinese food in the places you see the Chinese people eating". Maybe this is one to try?
L&B Spumoni Gardens type pizza in NJ?
I had a patient tell me not too long ago that Spumoni Gardens had been sold in the last year or so, to non-Italians who don't quite get it. That may be why it was such a disappointment when you went there.
Daryl wine bar really reopening v2
as per the Blu website " as we prepare to open our new restaurant Daryl in New Brunswick, NJ, Blu and Next door will be closed until January 2012"
One night in Princeton
while you are in New Brunswick may I highly recommend Due Mari for your dining pleasure. Excellent wine list and some of the best food in the city.

Harold's New York Deli Restaurant In Edison
Harold's is the best in NJ. period. He used to work at the Carnegie Deli so he knows from pastrami. A great place to go in a group and just share a few things they way they recommend. Or, get your own sandwich and have leftovers for 2 more days.
The original Second Avenue Deli will always be #1 in my heart (and stomach) though. I lived only 3 blocks from there for 10 years so I was ALWAYS in there.

Informal Wedding sites? Ceremony + Dinner
Cheeky,
congrats on the impending baby and upcoming wedding. so what that you did it a bit backwards!
My husband and I got married and had our reception last year in Manhattan: at Etcetera Etcetera http://www.etcrestaurant.com/index2.htm
the food is great. the upstairs room can easily hold the number you are speaking of, and, especially in January, the price will certainly be right.
I know it's not the area you asked about but I thought it was pretty great.

Private adult cooking parties
one more vote for Sue Sell's Cook N Tell.
Her classes are great....12 people around a huge island in her kitchen. Hands on. BYOB if you want.
Northern NJ- Semolina Flour with Good Turnover
the mail order link is much appreciated.
I live down in East Windsor and cannot find Semolina flour anywhere. I just got back from Italy and actually brought a kilo of it home in my suitcase (my husband thought I was nuts). when this gets used up I will surely use the mail order link.
Looking for party location for 14 year old girls
if you have 12 girls or less how about a cooking party at cook n tell? cookntell.com
Sue Sell does great stuff and it's all hands on for the girls.
Rome dining...overwhelmed!

Rome dining...overwhelmed!

Rome dining...overwhelmed!
thank you all!
Katie....I work in New Brunswick...anything you want me to carry over from Clydz? happy to meet you to drop off. you didn't have any tour time available for when we are in Rome. :-(
Rome dining...overwhelmed!
Beer or Wine? Of course we are worlds apart here too! I'm a wine, he's a beer....but I'd happily give up a night of wine (well, maybe not so happily) to find him a beer place that would make him happy for a lunch or dinner....
Thank you all so very much! I love this message board!!
Roman Memories--Long
Rneeno..
if you read this before Friday and can forward your list I would love to have it for my trip.

many thanks.
Rome dining...overwhelmed!
Thanks all.
I did know that PIzzarium was really just a stand up joint.....but everyone has seemed so excited about them reopening we wanted to try it.
Ha, no, My husband does not have a waiter allergy, more of a new food allergy and he really does not take the time to appreciate tastes/flavors. High end, expensive places are a total waste on him.
I certainly don't want to sacrifice my trip on the altar of my husband's nonfoodienss (I love that line!), but at the same time I don't want him to be miserable the whole time.
Good pasta, spicy sauce and bread will keep him happy. I'm much more open-minded.
we are heading to Florence after a 3 day stay in Tuscany, so my mix up in restaurant locales was based on future eating.
Easter Brunch Anyone?
I've made reservations at Rat's at the Grounds for Sculpture. $69/pp for a buffet lunch..not their regular brunch, and it gets you out onto the grounds as well. Maybe the weather will be warm enough to actually take advantage!
Rome dining...overwhelmed!
I have been reading the Italy boards for about a month now, in anticipation for our trip to Rome this week. We will arrive on Saturday, April 2, staying 5 nights at the Hotel Delle Nazioni which seems to be in the middle of the historic district.
I am so very confused by all the options! While I am definitely a foodie, my husband is sadly, not. I'm looking for mostly low key places.
Perilli is on our list and we can make that one of our Sunday meals since Sunday options seem to be limited.
I'm liking the Pizzarium as well as Trattoria La Casalinga.
what else is low key and relaxing. How important are reservations?
I've been researching Katie and Elizabeth's blogs but am only getting more confused!!
thanks in advance!

New Brunswick Near Hyatt, Anything Not to Be Missed
I have to say all the recommendations here are spot on.
sports bar in Rome?
Steve, thanks much! and my husband probably thanks you more.
go Rutgers (even though we are out of March madness due to bad reffing..)
sports bar in Rome?
I appreciate all of the information I have been able to gather from reading these boards as well as the blogs of some of the posters. One thing I have not seen covered is a sports bar or something similar.
My husband and I are heading to Rome for 5 nights on April 2 (before heading off to Tuscany and then Florence). April 2 and 3 are the last 2 days of the Master's golf tournament. Any chance there will be someplace in Rome for him to watch this?
George Street Ale House
Our group of 4 went here Saturday night before the Eric LeGrand fundraiser Saturday night.
Hubby and I arrived early, about 4:45 and were immediately seated at a high top in the bar area as per our request. Our server was pleasant and full of information about the beers available for my husband.
Looking over the menu there seemed to be some good options for dinner.
When our friends arrived we all picked different things to order:
Hubby went with fried pickles and steak chili.. Chili was spicy and good, with bite sized bits of steak throughout.
Friends ordered crab cake...review was "good but not East shore of Maryland good". Fajita chicken salad...came presented in one of those tortilla bowls....filled to the brim although from my seat there seemed to be a lot of dressing on the salad. They were out of the fish and chips so our other friend ordered the pulled pork sandwich which was served with a side of fries. He ate every last bite so I'll take it he enjoyed it.
I went with a regular dinner of the pork chop served over potato, cherry pepper and sausage. I requested the chop to be served on the rarer side and it came out to perfection.. Thick and juicy. the potato mixture came with a brown garlicy jus which was delicious. I'm not sure that the sausage, served with a pork chop, added to the dish but overall it was quite good.
the general manager stopped by to make sure we were good and offered some interactive commentary with the boys about the different beers they were offering.
when we left at about 7:15pm the place was packed and humming along,.
I would certainly go back here again.
Bagels in East Windsor
running out of bagels on a Sunday morning is certainly not atypical there. I've stood in line for a good 30 minutes only to find no salt bagels left for my husband. They are certainly not NY bagels but they are the best locally. I'm actually very friendly with the owner who is certainly not the warmest of people.
I've gone in there at 5:30 on a weekday morning to find the breakfast crowd eating away.
As Paul said, certainly a "no frills" place but without traveling into Manhattan for Essa Bagel it's all we've got.
Communion Party, East Windsor/West Windsor Area
In West Windsor how about Carlucci's Grill? I did my daughter's confirmation party there. we had about 20 people and they set us up at a long table in the center. Their sister restaurant, Capuano Ristorante is also a good choice.
In East Windsor the only BYOB is Fernando's grill. I have not eaten there but I've read some good reviews and they always seem to have people in the restaurant.

Saturday Dinner in New Brunswick?
You cannot go wrong with Due Mari. Probably the best food in New Brunswick.
Excellent choice on picking the Heldrich over the Hyatt too! When my husband and I stay there we try to do a restaurant/bar crawl...stopping at a few different places on the way down from the hotel and on the way back. Drinks at Hotoyke are fantastic, desserts at Old Man Rafferty's rock. Christopher's bar in the Heldrich pours a nice glass of wine.
Enjoy!

this the third one this year! SOHO, then Daryl's, now Chef's Place. Very very sad.
Daryl Wine Bar - New Brunswick - CLOSED
total bummer. I enjoyed the small plates when they had them and really enjoyed the ability to have small wine tastings. sigh.
Bagels in East Windsor
I live in East Windsor. The best bagels in town are the ones in the strip mall across the street from the Fire House in downtown HIghtstown. .
