Fave Dumplings in Markham

Chinese Dumpling House. There's one location at Metro Square and one at Commerce Valley.
Took a colleague visiting from China there and he verified they were as authentic as those found in China (northern style).

Wedding Venue Help - Chinese

Markham Event Centre (MEC) is another banquet hall that offers Chinese or fusion (western/Chinese). THey have the same catering as La Rosa/Ambassador so the food is reputable.

Grand Chinese (Jacky Young) or Dragon Dynasty (can't remember the catering company name) will cater at various halls or venues in the city.

Shangri-La Convention Centre

Yes, if anyone has any feedback on the Chinese food for weddings at Shangri-La, please reply!

Thank you.

Southern Restaruants in tdot????

Blue Sage in Mississauga has southern BBQ and corn bread.

Nota Bene - Amazing experience yet again - review + pics

Do they offer at tasting menu? I only saw mention of a wine-pairing tasting in all the posts. For 2 people, would you recommend 1 app (begin) + 1 main (follow) per person?

Hi Hounds, Looking for a great Teppanyaki place between Etobicoke Pearson Airport to Miss/Oakville border.

There's also Mikado in the Toronto Airport Marriott hotel on Dixon Rd.

restaurant in mississauga

Streetsville also has Saucy, a pasta/pizza place. Reservations are recommended since they fill up pretty fast.

anyone know about Madras Dosa Hut?

Do you know if their website is up to date? It says there's a dosa special until the end of March where regularly priced dosas can be had for $5.00. The site also shows the Brampton location as "now open", but based on the posts, it sounds like that location is closed.

mississauga....quick and tasty

Nick's Pita (http://www.nickspita.ca/contact.html) on Tomken has decent shawarma, falafel etc. I'd also suggest Paramount Foods as Kagemusha mentioned.

Inexpensive, yet impressive eating spot at Spadina & Bloor

Dessert Trends on Harbord has a bistro as well as some of the loveliest desserts (their specialty). I had heard they had stopped serving dinner last year, so you may want to check with them directly.

I love MORTON'S!!!!!! (review)

The molten chocolate cake is their best dessert (when done right).

I'd prefer if there were more choices of smaller cuts for those who don't have as large appetites.

Indian Food Oakville Mississauga

You could try Nirvana in Mississauga (Hwy10 & Britannia)
http://www.nirvanatheflavoursofindia.com/

Relative to some Indian restaurants, it's pricier but the selection and quality is great.

where to find Ukrainian Paska bread?

Do you have suggestions on where to find a traditional, tasty Paska bread? Is the bread usually only available near the Easter season?

I was hoping to pick one up at Natalie's Kitchen in Etobicoke, but I had heard they had closed down.

Thanks.

Amuse Bouche - OK food but REALLY LOUSY Service!

I was at Amuse Bouche this past summer for the tasting menu. Food was enjoyable, but not overly memorable. I only remember one thing: the server had asked if I had any preferences for the tasting. I had asked to not have sweetbreads. What should happen? The 2nd course comes out and it is a braised sweetbread!

Do high-end restaurants do anything for birthdays?

So far the only place I've seen do anything different is Canoe, who provided a special cookie/dessert arrangement with a birthday wish following the end of the tasting menu. Simple and tasteful. I've been to different restaurants such as Bymark, Colborne Lane...and indicated at reservation time that we were celebrating a birthday. Both times the staff acknowledged the occasion when the reservation was taken and indicated they would 'celebrate in their way', but there was nothing different following the meal (tasting or otherwise).

Has anyone else experienced anything different?

Omakase

I am also a fan of Take Sushi. They offer omakase in different prices/sizes ($60-100). Overall, I found the dishes to be more creative than Kaji. Kaji's forte is sushi/sashimi (the best!), but Take had many lovely cooked and seasonal items.

Dinner near Princess of Wales Theatre

Going to see Phantom of the Opera and looking for a place for dinner before the show, preferably within walking distance. Any suggestions? Price up to $120 for two. I'd prefer to try something new since I've already been to Fred's Not Here, Marcel's, Penelope, Big Daddy's Crabshack, all in that area...

Korean restaurants

Bloor & Christie area is mostly for "fast food" type dishes like soon-tofu-chigae, gam-ja-tang (pork bone soup) or ddukbokgi. Ka-Chi is pretty good for gam-ja-tang. They have several locations, including one on Bloor near Clinton.

Yonge & Finch and Yonge & Steeles has fast food joints as well as normal sit-down type restaurants.

Seoul House on Steeles west of Yonge (at the Swiss Chalet plaza) is pretty good.

Winterlicious reservation -- credit card # required?

Celestin.

Yeah, I was surprised. I've never had to do that, Winterlicious or even just a regular reservation at any restaurant.

Winterlicious reservation -- credit card # required?

I just made a reservation for Winterlicious and the restaurant I called asked for a full credit card # + expiry date in order to hold the reservation.

Is this typical? Even when I've called during the Front of the Line days in the past, Ive usually only had to provide the last 4 digits of my Amex.

Mediocre meal at Monsoon

I tried Monsoon last year after seeing Winlai Wong at an Asian food festival. I found both the food and service to be very good. Based on my pleasant experience, I'm surprised to hear that others' have been mediocre, but perhaps I got lucky.

Ajisen Ramen in TORONTO

I haven't tried Aijsen, but I've been to Kenzo Ramen in North York (just south of Yonge & Steeles) and enjoyed that.

Izakaya (downtown) has excellent toppings...Cumbrae Farms meats, full flavoured broth, but obviously pricier than most 'fast-food' ramen places.

North 44 vs. Bymark?

I was just at Bymark last week. Though I agree the food is of high quality, I would have to say that (at least on my visit), they fell short on food presentation and service...several dropped plates, some spilled water, a server who failed to let us know about the features for the evening (we learned of them from overhearing them from the adjacent table), an ignored request for a birthday greeting on the dessert platter etc. etc. Left a sour impression despite having excellent food.

I too had the Lobster poutine, but with Bernaise sauce and it was definitely enjoyable.

Pearl Street Bistro - Streetsville/Mississauga

I had the pleasure of dining at Pearl Street Bistro in Streetsville (Mississauga) recently. I started with a lovely lobster and corn veloute soup with creme fraiche. My dining partner had a rocket salad with blue cheese, walnuts and poached pear to start. Our entrees were basil gnocchi with a yellow pepper gazpacho and lamb loin with cherry conserve. The lamb was definitely the better of the two, but both were enjoyable. I didn't have enough room for dessert, but did glance at the menu and would expect it to match the rest of the meal.

I was (pleasantly) surprised to find such a quality restaurant in Mississauga. Attentive service and prices that match bistros in downtown Toronto ($19-40 for entrees). I did notice that, at least on the evening I was there, most of the diners were older, but that could just have been that particular night.

Dessert in Mississauga area?

Any notable dessert places in the Mississauga? i.e. for after dinner

I'm already aware of Apricot Tree Cafe in Sherwood Forest and Yellow Cup Cafe in Etobicoke. I prefer to stay away from chains like Demetre (Hwy10 & 401). I know there are a number of worthwhile bakeries in Mississauga, but most tend to close early. Is my best bet to do takeout from such places?

Thanks.

Crepe Place

The Apricot Tree Cafe has a selection of savoury (meal) crepes. They also serve dessert crepes.

Churros

Casa Barcelona in the Kingsway area has churros on their dessert menu. Unfortunately, they don't allow you to go in just for dessert. I tried that and they forced me to order a tapas from the dinner menu before ordering dessert.

banu

Do these guys have a website? I did a quick search and could only find reviews, every one of which mentioned that Franz Ferdinand had eaten there.

where do the celebrities/celebrity chefs eat?

While Joanne Kates was on vacation for the summer, the Globe & Mail had a few articles on where chefs like to eat. One week featured Chris McDonald (ex-Avalon, now Cava) and he mentioned Kaji for special occasion, Ichiriki for casual and Hiro for omakase.

I think a few other chefs were featured, but I can't seem to find the articles online. I read them in the print edition.

Going to Lee on king st w

The lamb chops with mint are great, especially with the little bit of heat on the salsa topping. I've enjoyed them both times I've been to Lee.

I agree with the black cod. The Singapore slaw is nice to share for two. The matchstick potato is a dish we ordered out of curiosity, and it was worth it just for the presentation, but I thought it was a bit much for just 2 people. Maybe your fried quota is higher than mine though.
